The only way everything could be completely fried is if a literal lightning bolt hit the thing. Otherwise, there’d have to be some trace left on the hard drive or the flash drive. Sounds like you got taken for a ride by a pretty lousy technician... especially since you aren't exactly a tech expert yourself. He probably thought he could just spin you a tall tale. Did he try to pitch you a "repair service" for extra cash too?

There's also OpenOffice, which is free and honestly does the job just fine.

Does anyone know of an MP3 player (besides Winamp) that actually loads the entire track into memory before playing? I'm tired of my disk drive stuttering every ten seconds just because it's trying to buffer a few hundred kilobytes... Needs to be compatible with Windows XP.

Honestly, that’s the only reason I haven't ditched Winamp yet. If it weren't for that, I would have moved on ages ago... back when version 2.92 was still a thing.

No court can just pick a date and decide when a ruling becomes final. It actually takes eight days—or whatever the legal window is for appeals—after every single party involved gets served and signs off on the receipt. So, if you really want to drag things out, you could technically stall by just being difficult about receiving the paperwork... Also, the statute of limitations for these kinds of violations is two years. If they haven't handed down a final, binding decision by now, the whole thing is likely dead in the water.

That feature used to work just fine back when Hotmail actually allowed POP3 access. Now, they’re basically holding it hostage behind a paywall unless you use MS Outlook—which is a total pain. It just starts downloading every single email to your computer without asking first, and it does it incredibly slowly, even on a decent connection. Once it finally finishes, then you can actually manage things (most other email clients behave similarly, but the difference is I don't deal with nearly as much spam on my other accounts). Honestly, using a browser is the best way to handle Hotmail; it's much faster, especially when you need to clear out junk... You can actually configure Foxmail 4.1 or 5.0 to delete massive amounts of spam directly on the server without downloading everything to your hard drive first, which is a lifesaver if you're stuck on a slow modem connection.
