Struggling with learning? in Psychology ·
Honestly, I’m dealing with the exact same thing, and one of my buddies is going through it too. That’s actually one of the main reasons I signed up for this forum in the first place.
It’s honestly ridiculous. You spend all day stuck in your room staring at a textbook, not going anywhere, supposedly "studying," but as soon as you finish a single paragraph, you reward yourself by spacing out for the next thirty minutes or more. Then you look back and realize you haven't absorbed a single word, so you have to start all over again.
If someone didn't know what was going on behind the scenes, they’d never believe the mental struggle you're going through just by looking at your grades.
For me—and for my friend as well—we usually spend the first few days just sitting there, staring at the pages and letting our minds wander into total nonsense. But eventually, things usually start to click.
The key is just not giving up and not letting your imagination run wild. It might actually help to bribe yourself by making a "must-do" list for the next day. Stick to it no matter what—even if the world is ending or your chair is on fire, don't move until that list is done.
My buddy thrives on that pre-exam panic; he pulls all-nighters and somehow pulls it off. I'm a tougher case, though. I always feel like I have plenty of time, so I never hit that breaking point where I'm forced to cram, and since I don't believe in luck, I just end up stuck in this loop...

You know, maybe we’re actually afraid of succeeding. Maybe being stuck right where we are feels safe, so we dodge potential real problems by throwing ourselves into even bigger ones. People who are barely scraping by while getting their degrees definitely don't have motivation issues.
I probably haven't given you much of a solution, but... at least you know you aren't alone in this. There are a lot of us.

MRI scans and copying medical reports in Health ·
A close friend of mine went to Sunrise for a brain MRI, and they found a tumor. She ended up having surgery at the Mayo Clinic, but because the tumor is in such an awkward spot, they were only able to remove about 20% of it. Two months after the surgery, she went back to Sunrise for follow-up imaging. Both times, they only gave her one single copy of the scans. Right now, she’s undergoing radiation therapy at a specialized cancer center.
By total coincidence, I reconnected with a high school friend who actually works in the US at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and they are currently deep in brain tumor research!!!
She is surrounded by top-tier experts—researchers, neurosurgeons, you name it...
After consulting with them, they’ve expressed a real willingness to review my friend's scans, offer their expert opinion on a treatment plan, and might even see her in person for an evaluation.
Here’s the catch:
I need to get her imaging sent over via digital media (like a CD) or provide the originals. When my friend asked the staff at Sunrise if they could just burn a CD with her head scans or print out extra copies, they told her it was impossible.
Since she only has one set of images, we can't just hand them over; she needs them here for her ongoing treatment (plus, we don't want to risk her being left with nothing).
So, my questions are:
Does anyone know if MRI scans can be copied, or
Is it actually true that it's impossible to get a CD or additional copies???

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

I was wondering if there are any clubs in Tampa where I could learn self-defense or just train recreationally, especially since I'm a total beginner when it comes to martial arts.😕

Firkraag said:hm.... that statement feels a bit off to me... sure, you might see that connection with someone like Stratovarius, Avanc, or even Bodom (back in the day), but how does that apply to Kataklysm, Nile, or Morbid Angel?? I really hope we aren't overgeneralizing here.

Try playing any heavy metal riff on a classical guitar, an organ, or just a basic piano and you'll see my point. Or try the reverse: take some two-part inventions by Bach or any of Grieg's technical exercises and play them through a distortion pedal, and suddenly you've got Maiden or Metallica. At some point, classical music had to evolve; if you break it down, all those elements are right there.🙂

Hey everyone!😘 So, an older member named northernfalcon30 helped translate the book *Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom*. Since the book itself is absolutely phenomenal, I figured that means she must be one incredible woman.

Gary Anderson38 said:Since we have a thread dedicated to Metallica, let's use this space to share our all-time favorites, what we're currently vibing to, or which albums we keep on repeat.

Here is my current top 10 from Metallica (not necessarily in order):
Since their career basically splits into two eras—the pure metal era and the hard rock era—I figured I'd break them up that way...

Top 10 from the Metal Era:

1. Master of Puppets
2. Creeping Death
3. Damage Inc.
4. One / Harvester of Sorrow
5. The Call of Ktulu
6. Blackened
7. Harvester of Sorrow
8. The Four Horsemen
9. Ride the Lightning
10. Fight Fire with Fire

From the Hard Rock side (including some tracks from the Black Album):

1. Sad But True
2. The Unforgiven
3. Until It Sleeps
4. King Nothing
5. Hero of the Day
6. Bleeding Me
7. The Outlaw Torn
8. Fixxxer
9. Fuel
10. The God That Failed

Basically, these are the tracks I've been blasting lately, though honestly, pretty much their entire discography is killer and I love it all—except for that last album, which is straight-up garbage. I bought it, listened once, then played it again just to laugh at how bad it was, and then one more time just to make sure I wasn't crazy. After that, I never touched it again.

But hey, despite that total disaster, they’re still the absolute kings. 😍 🙏

I second that.🙏

Has anyone seen the documentary about the period when they were recording that last album? If not, I highly recommend it. It sheds light on a lot of things, including why St. Anger sounds the way it does. Also, I think S&M was a brilliant move; it sounds amazing to me. At the end of the day, metal is just distorted classics.🙂

I don't really feel like digging through everything right now, so please excuse me if I'm repeating myself.
Has anyone ever been to see Dr. Marton in downtown Chicago? I'm not sure of the exact location. I've heard she's an amazing doctor. It's Ulla and Marta Marton—mother and daughter. From what I understand, it's just the daughter practicing there now.

Thanks so much!😘

Living with Sarcoidosis: Tips and Support in Health ·
--only___me-- said:So, how bad is it really? My GP actually told me, "If you absolutely have to deal with one of these conditions, this is the best one to have."
That’s one hell of a way to put it.

They usually group sarcoidosis under autoimmune diseases, even though experts aren't 100% sure it fits perfectly there. But honestly, if I’m forced to pick an autoimmune disorder to live with, I agree with your doctor—I'll take sarcoidosis any day.

I was on Medrol for a few months, and so far, my symptoms haven't come back. For some people, they stay away for good, so I'm really crossing my fingers that I'm one of those lucky ones.😉

So I went ahead and asked if there was any kind of fee involved...

They’ll give you a new activation code as long as it's been less than a year since the purchase. My daughter was in 3rd grade back in 2003, and now that my son is hitting 3rd grade, I wanted to set up that same Teacher software for him. I gave them a call, but THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE CODE BECAUSE THEY DON'T PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR OLDER VERSIONS.
