Gaming issues/troubleshooting help needed in IT Support ·
James Baker87 said:Hey everyone.

So, here's the deal. Lately, I've been running into this issue where while playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the game stutters or just completely freezes for about 2 to 5 seconds. After that, my FPS tanks from around 250–300 down to a pathetic 30–60.

It mostly happens mid-game, but recently it's started happening randomly during basic PC use too—usually when I’m just loading up a YouTube video. Everything hangs, and I have to force a hard reset.

Here are my specs:

Intel ® Xeon ® Processor E3-1231 (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz)
CPU Cooler LC-CC-95, Intel/AMD, 90mm 4-pin
Asrock Intel 1150 Socket B85 ANNIVERSARY Chipset MB
Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, C11, 16GB (2x 8GB)
Patriot SSD Blast 240GB, 7mm, 2.5"
Gigabyte GF GTX970IXOC, 4GB GDDR5, DVI, DP
LG GH24NSC0 sat Bulk Black 24 x super Flower Golden Green 350 w
Super Flower Golden Green 350W, 80+ Gold

GPU drivers are up to date, and I'm running Windows 10. GPU temps sit at 40°C at idle, and maybe jump up 10–15 degrees during gaming.

I've been digging around online, and the advice is all over the place. Some people say it's thermal paste, others swear it's the drivers, and some blame the power supply. Anyone dealt with this before? I've had this rig for two years, but these problems only started cropping up back in May.

Cheers.

Check your Windows event log to see what's going on and paste it here.

How do I route PC audio to my TV? in IT Support ·

No worries at all. As long as it's working, that's all that matters, I guess. 👍
How do I route PC audio to my TV? in IT Support ·
vividmoose33 said:Hey everyone! So, my TV is hooked up via HDMI to my PC, which is running a GeForce GTX 750 Ti. When I'm playing a movie straight from my hard drive using Windows Media Player, I can just toggle the audio settings in the player to send the sound to the TV. But when I'm on YouTube, watching Netflix, or just browsing pretty much anything else online, I feel like I should be able to fix this somewhere in the graphics card settings, but I honestly have no clue where to look. Any help? In the NVIDIA Control Panel under Audio, there's a "Default audio device" option and my TV shows up there. Below that, I see S/pdif and Speakers, but nothing seems to actually work. So, what now?

Just right-click that little speaker icon on your taskbar down by the clock and date.

Pick Playback devices -> then find your TV-HDMI option—whatever it's called on your screen—hit "set as default," and you should be good to go.
Issues connecting PC to Smart TV wirelessly? in IT Support ·
restlessdrifter12 said:The issue I'm running into is that I simply cannot get past this initial setup phase—the connection step—because I've been sitting here for twenty minutes watching it struggle to connect to my router, which is practically right next to the Sony TV.
I honestly don't understand why it's insisting that I need an Ethernet cable when the wireless signal should be perfectly fine—it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Does your TV even have Wi-Fi built-in?
Random pop-ups opening up? in IT Support ·
Gerald Hill said:Whenever I type a URL into Google or try to click on a link where the cursor should change to a hand icon, I run into an issue. I can't just click through immediately; instead, the arrow cursor appears, and for the first two clicks when I'm trying to access a site I specifically typed in, unwanted pages pop up first. Only after those redirects does the pointer finally turn into the clickable hand icon. These intrusive pages look like this: http://image.prntscr.com/image/d0d18...306d1dd1bd.png and http://image.prntscr.com/image/d63aa...dce6ec69c5.png. What exactly is going on here, and has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Looks like you picked up some malware. Honestly, my best advice is to grab an antivirus program to scan your system and wipe them out. Maybe do a quick search online to see which ones are actually decent and free right now. Oh, and you should probably install a browser extension like Adblock Plus or something similar. You can usually find that under your browser settings, specifically in the extensions or add-ons section.
How to clip a video directly in a browser? in IT Support ·
steelhawk26 said:I’m having zero luck with this. Every time I reach the final step, I get an error message stating, "ClipConverter is not available for videos containing music."
I have tested five different videos from YouTube, and they all trigger the exact same message.
I simply cannot figure out what the issue is.

Look, you really have to do some digging on Google. A ton of these kinds of tools have been blocked. Or, you know, just download the whole video, trim out whatever part you actually want, and delete the rest...

Well, maybe give this one a shot then:

steelhawk26 said:There are several YouTube videos out there that run over two hours long. I need to pull just a tiny snippet—about three minutes—from each one, but I really don't want to deal with the hassle of downloading massive files just to trim them down in an editor.
I know for a fact I stumbled upon a tool online last year that handled this perfectly.
You basically just paste the URL, specify the exact timestamps for the start and end points, and it downloads only that specific segment:
The problem is, I can't for the life of me remember the website address.
Does anyone happen to know a site that does this?

Laptop stuck on "Limited access WiFi in IT Support ·
darkmarlin16 said:Under the "View your basic network information and set up connections" header, it just shows "unknown" instead of my usual network map, and there's this error message right below it saying "The dependency service or group failed to start."

That’s exactly what I’m running into right now.

Give this a shot:

darkmarlin16 said:So, it says I'm connected, but then it gives me that "limited access WiFi" error. I've been scouring YouTube and trying to follow all these tutorials to fix it, but honestly, nothing is working.

Anyone out there actually know how to fix this?

Have you tried plugging in via Ethernet just to see if your internet is even functioning at all?
Annoying noise coming from my Dell Inspiron in IT Support ·
Jamie Williams8 said:Hey everyone. I'm dealing with a totally maddening issue on my laptop.
It’s a year and a half old Dell Inspiron 15.
I bought it brand new with Windows 7. Everything was fine until that free upgrade to Windows 10 happened. Since then, I've had this one specific headache. Every time I'm typing, out of nowhere, this sound triggers whenever I switch between uppercase and lowercase using the Caps Lock key. To turn it off, I have to go to SETTINGS-ACCESSIBILITY-KEYBOARD-TOGGLE KEYS-AND CLICK TO DISABLE THAT SOUND SIGNAL.......and I'm doing this like 20 times a day.....out of thin air while I'm just typing, even though I already turned the sound off....while I'm typing and toggling Caps Lock....that annoying noise just kicks in......has anyone else dealt with this.....please help me out...

You accidentally turned on Toggle Keys.
Just follow these steps and you'll have it fixed in like 2 minutes.
How do I log in to this site? in IT Support ·
Morgan Ortiz6 said:Look, I know all about that site (http://www.malioglasnik.org/predaja-oglasa), but I actually gave you the link for http://malioglasnik.com/.
I don't see any option there to post an ad.

They don't actually let you post directly. It’s basically just an aggregator site that pulls listings from their partners and other classified sites. If you look down at the bottom left, you'll see all their partners listed. Basically, once you post your ad on one of those, it'll eventually pop up here too, I guess.
LAN-wifi issues? in IT Support ·
Zachary Peterson6 said:So, I’ve got this setup where there's a router in one apartment... and in the other one, I'm thinking about running a LAN cable from that router straight to my laptop... is there any way I can set up the laptop to act as a Wi-Fi repeater?

http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analy...r-2-40284.html

Or, I don't know, maybe it’d just be way easier to just plug in a second router in that other unit since you're already running the cable anyway..
Adam Chavez39 said:Thanks. I managed to sort out most of it, except for that annoying issue where it keeps turning my dashes into this—thing. Does anyone know how to fix that?

AutoCorrect settings - stop Automatically Creating Dashes

Check the AutoCorrect settings too—uncheck Stop Automatically Creating Dashes
Adam Chavez39 said:So, like the title says, Microsoft Word keeps trying to "fix" my typing. For instance, after I hit a period (.), it automatically capitalizes the next word or turns my punctuation into --. I’m looking for some help on how to kill this automatic editing once and for all. Thanks in advance.

Just head over to File -> Proofing -> AutoCorrect settings
That's where you can toggle whatever you want—capitalization, spelling, all that stuff—to make it stop messing with your work.

Have you tried downloading something else? Also, what kind of antivirus are you running?
Sometimes some random malware can mess things up and just block your downloads entirely.
