Tutorial: The Ultimate "How-To" Guide (FAQ) in Forum Help! ·
ironmarlin322 said:I could really use some help here. I'm having trouble figuring out how to embed a link in my post. I saw the FAQ at the top of the page, but it still isn't clicking for me. Thanks in advance.

Are you a blonde? 😛

It’s pretty straightforward—think of it like moving a file from one folder to another. You just grab the URL you want (highlight it, right-click, and hit copy), come back here, click the icon, and then paste that link into the pop-up window using right-click and paste.

That's all there is to it. 🙂

If you want to clean things up, you can actually delete the "http" part that's usually pre-filled and highlighted in that little window before you save it.

I can't find the button anywhere.
I already managed to post one thread, but now the option seems to have vanished into thin air.

It’s this button right here:

If it isn't showing up, it's likely due to a few technical hiccups:

-In Google, under Tools > Options > the Content tab, you need to make sure the Load images automatically box is checked. If there's already a checkmark, you'll see an Errors button to the right. Just double-check that you haven't accidentally blocked Reddit.
If it shows up on that list, just clear it out.

-If you have AdBlock installed, make sure you haven't set it to block Reddit entirely.

😢

If you check the "remember me" box next time you sign in, it should prevent those sudden logouts. 🙂

@vividfalcon14: I’ve been living a pretty solitary life myself for about a decade now. About four years back, things got heavy enough that I attempted to end it all with an overdose due to some unbearable mental struggles. It felt like I just drifted off into sleep, but instead of finding peace, I woke up hooked to an IV drip and spent several weeks in a psychiatric ward...

I find myself needing companionship and a true friend too, so if you ever find yourself passing through San Francisco, maybe we could grab a coffee sometime...

Take care of yourself. 👍

Kate Castillo55 said:What's the actual difference between getting a yellow card versus a red one? How does it affect the points?

A yellow card functions as a formal warning without adding any penalties to your score, whereas a red card carries specific point deductions, say somewhere in the range of 1 to 1,000 points....

It’s pretty much the same logic you'd see during an NFL game. 🙂
How do I change my avatar? in Forum Help! ·
It’s pretty straightforward: just right-click the image and select Save image as.... Once you've got it tucked away on your hard drive, head over here to upload that .gif animation you just saved.

Best, 🙂

Not happening on this forum.

Only the mods, senior mods, and admins have that kind of clearance.

George Howard24 said:Where can I check if a moderator has issued any points toward a ban?

If you pick up a strike—whether it carries points or not—you’ll automatically receive a direct message explaining who issued it, the reasoning behind it, and how many points were added (though simple warnings without points, like a yellow card, won't trigger that).
You can also always verify everything in your profile by clicking on the Violations tab.
George Howard24 said:And where can I find the rules regarding what could lead to a ban?

Best. 🙂

Just enter it exactly how I laid it out for you, though go ahead and strip that asterisk from the initial URL tag.

Gary Gray6 said:You know that thing where you're scrolling through an online forum and you decide to quote someone else's post just to tack on your own little observation?
I wonder if I'll actually get a notification when someone decides to quote me, or if I’m stuck manually subscribing to every single thread I touch just to keep tabs on the conversation.

You won't see any notifications popping up unless you actually go looking for them. I'm just looking at the user agreement. It’s like missing out on a classic series because you forgot to hit subscribe.
Gary Gray6 said:I wonder why we haven't implemented some sort of centralized notification system, similar to what you'd see on Meta or other major platforms.
Imagine if you could actually see the entire web of connections whenever someone decided to chime in, reply to your thoughts, or pull a quote from one of your posts.

If there’s a more straightforward way to lay this out, I’d certainly appreciate a bit more clarity on the matter. 😁.

Thanks. 😉

I honestly can't say how things work over on Meta since I don't use the platform myself, but you still have access to your own history—well, at least your last 300 posts—which serves as its own kind of digital mirror. Here. You just need to head over to your profile and click on the tab. Census Bureau data. It seems like you might have hit send a little too early there. I'm ready when you are. Any chance someone can help me out? Thanks.

🤦

If you can still get into the new account, just head over to your settings and update the email.

Otherwise, you'll probably need to reach out to an admin to have them manually fix the email or activate the account for you, and then you should be able to handle it yourself. 😉

Melissa Evans16 said:Does this change depending on which subforum you're in?...

Not quite. It’s more about moving from one server to another. Certain hosting providers just don't allow what people call remote linking for images or files—think along the lines of Jack, Verizon, or GoDaddy.

If you want to use an image from a site like that, you'll need to save it to your computer first and then upload it to a dedicated file host like Imgur or Flickr.

Basically, you go into Google, right-click the image, select "Save image as..." to download it to your hard drive, then head over to a site like Imgur, hit browse, grab that file you just saved, and click upload. Once the upload finishes and the code pops up, you just find the direct link that ends in .gif or .png and copy it. Then, come back here to the forum, click the icon, paste that link into the window that appears, and hit OK.

That's the whole process. 😉

Thomas White9 said:If I've wandered into the wrong thread, please feel free to move this.

A friend of mine set up a forum for kids and everything seems fine on the surface, but when I went to register my email, the confirmation link gave me an error saying it wasn't in the database. She was able to sign up and log in without any hiccups, so I'm wondering where the disconnect is and what needs to be fixed.

Since I don't know which specific forum software she’s running, one workaround would be for her to just disable the email verification requirement entirely so you can jump straight in. Alternatively, she could simply go through the AP and manually activate your account from the backend.

I honestly have no idea. You haven't really walked me through it.
How am I supposed to download it?
What’s the actual process for saving it? That’s what I was asking you all.
When I click on the image, it just opens. Is it just a simple click? It should be obvious that I'm not exactly a tech expert here...😁😳

I don't even know what Adobe Acrobat Reader or Windows Photo Viewer are meant to do.😳

🙈

Alright, let me clear this up for you; my previous comment was just a quick remark following what Joe said.

Anyway, I'm already starting to lose my patience, even though I haven't even turned in for the night yet.

For goodness sake, I'm getting frustrated again:

Look, it's simple,
you don't need to mess around with "Save As" or any of those complicated steps. Just find the animation, right-click on it, and select Copy image location. Then, go to your destination, click on the icon (you can strip out the "http://" part if you want, or just paste the whole link), and in that new window, just right-click and paste.

That's all there is to it, dear. If any of that sounds like gibberish or you just need a little extra help, give me a shout. 🙂

*Just a heads up, this works perfectly if you're using Google Chrome. If you aren't, you might want to download it and give it a try.

briskbison41 said:What program are you using to view the image on your PC? I'm guessing it's Adobe Photoshop.
Maybe give Windows Photo Viewer a shot; it should handle the file without any issues.
As for getting the photo online, you can just upload it to Imgur, Flickr, or whatever other hosting site you prefer.

You could also just use a basic reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader. 😉

I appreciate the help.

As far as I’m aware, there isn't anything stopping you from doing that. 🙂

Well, there you have it. 🙂

Don't mention it.
