But let’s be real... the crowds are absolutely loving it because some filthy rich socialite is finally meeting her end... at least on screen 😁😁😁

quietdriver3 said:I still haven't heard a solid definition of what actually makes a movie "trash."

Me neither—but here’s my best shot at it.

Trash can kind of "happen" by accident, I guess, but it can also be made on purpose—like, slow-burn style—and that's really what I'm talking about: intentionality.
Yuzna consciously crafts trash, but it's high-quality stuff, often with actual soul behind it.

Now, look, I don't know any official textbook definition of trash, but to me, it feels very close to the concept of "camp," and camp is defined like this:
1. An affectation or appreciation of manners and tastes commonly thought to be artificial, vulgar, or banal.
2. Banality, vulgarity, or artificiality when deliberately affected or when appreciated for its humor.
In plain American English—it's that conscious enjoyment (or laughing at) something that is inherently lowbrow, banal, vulgar, or just plain tasteless...

Basically, you take some more or less conventional subject matter and handle it in a way that leans heavily into excess, superficial sensations, and shock value—all while piling on those typical (boring) characters and (crude) situations.

For me, with *Dentist*, it wasn't the trashiness itself that bothered me—it was that it was BAD trash. It was tedious, banal, and totally lacked spirit. All that "innovation" was dumped entirely into the premise—but once they actually started executing it, everything became incredibly predictable and mundane, with zero surprises. The movie only exists for those few dental-related gore scenes; everything else is an endless stretch of boredom because the characters and their dynamics are just so flat. (And yeah, I won't repeat myself, but even the gore effects were weak and didn't pack enough of a punch.)

That isn't the case with Yuzna's GOOD films, where interesting characters and original setups result in very watchable Warner Bros. flicks. I mean, just look at *Society*—there aren't even any major special effects until the very end of the movie, but the characters and the suspense carry you all the way through, and then—boom—total madness.
The same goes for *Return of the Living Dead Part III* and *Bride of Reanimator*. In those, the percentage of banality, predictability, vulgarity, and artificiality is much lower...

We’ve already seen the Paris version in "Sleeping Position," so we definitely don't need the running one 😁

The guy basically took a swing at the entire Warner Bros. genre, when I was really just pointing out one single brilliant example from the bunch 🙏

At least if you ask me, the whole point of horror isn't even about being scared—I mean, some movies have creeped me out way more than actual horror films ever could... take Eyes Wide Shut, for instance... that soundtrack and those masks? 😲 pure chills

Word is there might be some solid attempts at doing Gorea justice 🙄

We’re keeping our fingers crossed and honestly—expecting quite a bit here

from this movie 🙏 👋

I’ve used Travokort before—it actually helped quite a bit, I guess... for instance, I don't really have that sharp pain when I touch the area anymore. But, it didn't exactly make everything vanish completely. The issue is still there, just a milder version of itself, if that makes sense. And since my dermatologist was pretty firm about not using it for too long at a stretch... I decided to stop using it altogether.

Hey, thanks for the deep dive, really, but could you break down that quoted part for me? I'm definitely not an expert here.

I've been applying iodine to the affected areas, but honestly, I have no idea if I'm actually doing anything right.

Also, what exactly are "corticosteroids"?
😕

Man... I’m starting to think that dissolving sea salt actually does something here... 🙏
But honestly—those damn pests are basically sprinting toward the crown of the head at this point 👎 😠

Are we talking about the old school Netflix quality stuff? 👍

Or just some low-budget indie screening 👎

The ones in Wrong Turn are easily my absolute worst—it's enough to make you lose your appetite for life entirely.😁

Is that the only one you've actually sat through?

Because if so, you haven't seen anything yet.👋

Alright, my bad—I messed up, sorry everyone
I'm stepping away from this thread for good

Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for zombies—they're top tier for me—followed by those classic mad scientists, and then cannibals coming in at number three

But honestly, this flick manages to smash all of those tropes together into one phenomenal cocktail
In Zombie Holocaust, you get a little bit of everything: some cannibals, a handful of zombies, one totally unhinged scientist, and—let's be real—some great scenery🙏

And that's exactly why Zombie Holocaust remains one of my absolute favorite horror flicks

I mean, you can't beat that scene where the scientist says... let me paraphrase here, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
"The victim is babbling too much, we need to remove the brain"🙏

ruggedmarlin15

P.S. How old are you anyway?

Listen, man—I posted this from some sketchy neighborhood without double-checking my typos because I was in a rush. If I’d been caught... they would've snatched 10% of my paycheck before I could even blink. 👎

ps. 24 👋

No offense intended, but maybe the local video stores in your neck of the woods are better, but I once ruined two movies with a single rental tape 🙄 😢—besides that, I think the lack of decent movie selection at the rental shops was the main reason I finally jumped ship to other sources...

Look, I’m not out here making a living off these posts—unlike those self-proclaimed grammar nerds who get paid to subtitle movies or do freelance translations.

I don't hit the movie theaters all that often because, honestly... 😁😁😁 things tend to get a little messy down there—and I'm definitely not a masochist 🙂 👋

Catatonic Beaver said:So you don't even go to the movies, right? I bet you don't.

Look, if the theater is decent, why wouldn't I? Honestly, all I care about is the seating... 😁😁😁

Catatonic Beaver said:Imagine some guy with an afro sitting directly in your line of sight,

Exactly... especially if the seats are flat instead of being tiered like at a stadium.

Catatonic Beaver said:Besides that, there’s always the statistical chance the ceiling collapses on your head—assuming you're a certain type of guy who smokes those things—and then there are the rumors about scattered photons hitting the audience causing cancer, not to mention your eardrums bursting because some technician was being careless while tuning the speakers under your seat. Then there's the slim chance your phone explodes in your hand from all that intense power surging before and after the show, plus those annoying whisperers ruining your concentration.

Well, I guess any number of disasters could happen if you're unlucky... though I don't buy much into that photon stuff; it's not like they're enriching them with uranium. 👋
As for the sound... it's actually pretty common for the volume to suddenly spike without warning. 🙄

Bottom line: it's better for a bad theater to just shut down than for us to suffer through a movie while constantly being on edge.
Maybe someone will eventually figure out how to build a better cinema. 🙏
