redheron12 said:Now you've gone and provoked me. A Permaban on redheron12, please. If you won't do it, I'll just have to make it my mission to push you toward a perm 😁

In all seriousness, you are easily one of the top contributors on this entire board—one of those few users I actually respect. So, if you're truly looking for a permanent ban, go find someone else to bother. 🙏 😁
cosmicridge5, you should definitely vote for the option that imposes financial penalties for dropping out mid-season. That way, you might actually force redheron12 to stick with the championship even after he hits that first inevitable slump once the season kicks off. Of course, there’s no guarantee it would work and he could still bail, but at least then—in the spirit of gender equality—we could view his penalty payments as a form of forum alimony. 😁 🤣

Ethan Jones5, are you planning to vote for yourself, or are you waiting until the other players and candidates have made their moves?
Forget the train stuck in the snow... when you have elections where the candidates and the voters are one and the same, you have to expect people to vote for themselves. It isn't just ethically sound; frankly, the alternative would be a disaster. How can you possibly demand that someone step up as a leader if they don't even believe they are the best choice among the options provided?

Just imagine if a figure like a local Governor ran for office and decided to cast his vote for his opponent instead. Would it even be ethical for him to then turn around and ask anyone else to support his own campaign?
Listen, I realize things are pretty hectic right now, but it would be wise if everyone weighed in. This is our first time collectively raising our voices in such an organized fashion—both regarding the rules and the moderator—and it would be a genuine shame not to make the most of this opportunity.
Absolutely... 😁 especially since you seem to have maneuvered yourself into a potentially tricky spot where your credibility is being squeezed by two different sets of rules at once. Still, it’s quite something to see that even a day after the poll went live, you’re still sitting there with 100% of the votes. 🙏

😁 😁
Is it possible to start a brand new thread with its own poll, migrate all the posts from this one over there, and then just delete this thread entirely?
Matthew Young35 said:Moderators generally drift in and out because of the rules and because of the opportunities to troll participants that those rules provide.
I realize that for some, simplifying the rules and leaving all decision-making power strictly to the moderator—without any commissions or voting processes—might be an issue (and I don't mean you) because they wouldn't have anything left to troll or look for loopholes in. Yet, I am also quite certain it would increase the enjoyment for the majority of the competitors.
The sooner we realize that the current trajectory is unsustainable, the sooner we can foster a competition where we aren't losing more and more participants every single season.

Oh, absolutely. 🙏
Terry Carter2 said:That’s exactly why we need to wrap up this election soon, so we still have time to refine the winning rules. Regarding your specific proposal, I’d love to write myself in as the director alongside them, but let's face it, that would look absolutely pathetic.
I just hope that regardless of which proposal wins, we all work together to finalize the rules.

By the way, have you considered teaming up with darkmarlin16 to merge your candidacies?
😁

No pressure at all—if you ever feel like I might be able to lend a hand with something, just say the word. As long as I'm not caught in the middle of a deadline or some other time crunch, I'm happy to help. Why wouldn't I?

I was honestly on the verge of reporting you for trolling. 😁 🤣
No hard feelings—I wasn't actually putting my own name forward for candidacy; I was simply proposing a set of rules. I still maintain they’re solid, but what's done is done.
In my view, establishing sound regulations is far more critical than selecting a moderator. As we all know, leaders come and go, but once a season kicks off, we are stuck with the rulebook. (Sure, you can tweak the minor details, but the core framework remains set.)

Personally, I’ll definitely be casting my vote either for you or perhaps for Matthew Young35. However, if I may be so bold, I believe my proposed rules offer the ideal compromise between yours—which are too similar to the current ones—and his, which are far too radical (in my opinion, focusing solely on the top five is overkill). 😁
F1 drama: Can we please just get some fair officiating for once? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Frank Collins85 said:Apology accepted. 😉

Since we’re already dragging out my disciplinary record, why don't you tell me why I was flagged in the first place? I don't usually find myself complaining about warnings; I know my own temperament, and I'm well aware that I can be a bit of a jerk at times. But what on earth warranted a 35-point deduction? What could have possibly been so hilarious that Pilatus—who is generally an intelligent, well-educated guy and quite the F1 expert—lost his cool enough for this moderator to slap him with a 350-point penalty? I suppose I should have just sat there and laughed at myself in front of the screen...🤷

Honestly, I don't think you should spend too much energy overthinking these things. I once took a 35-point hit just because I quoted and screenshotted some ridiculous demand from a user on a different forum.

A warning is rarely about actual insults; it’s often just because quoting someone else's post elsewhere ends up offending them. If they felt hurt by being quoted, then so be it. I didn't even complain, because if the warning hadn't been issued, they would have just been offended by that instead. 🤷
350 points - mass ban evasion and partial ban in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I have a proposal to resolve this entire mess. It might be considered somewhat radical, but I truly believe it is constructive and offers a fair compromise (and no, this isn't an attempt by users facing permanent bans to lobby for a moderator's resignation).

What if we were to—at least within the context of the Formula 1 sub-forum, which is far too small to afford the luxury of chasing after enthusiasts like Jason Campbell70—offer those users who constantly clash with the rules and live perpetually on the edge (let's call them "the outliers") the chance to transfer their partial bans from our sub-forum back to the main soccer board.

The issue, as I see it, is that these individuals fail to grasp a fundamental reality: a moderator, regardless of who they are, cannot be expected to exercise the same level of patience toward someone who maintains hundreds of burner accounts and alt profiles as they do toward the rest of the community. They constantly stir up drama and direct their grievances at the moderators and their enforcement actions. If we offered them the option to move their partial ban away from here, provided they also forfeit the ability to mentally harass moderators with endless complaints whenever they mess up, I believe we would satisfy both the agitators and the rule-enforcers.

In the current situation involving the recent disciplinary action, our valued and helpful community members would return to where they belong—the Formula 1 section. However, when someone strays and picks up a red card, they must learn to accept the consequences. Alternatively, if they prefer, they could request to move their ban to the soccer board and regain access to Formula 1. In turn, the moderators would get back a productive user who won't drive them insane by spamming the appeals section over every single penalty. What are your thoughts?
350 points - mass ban evasion and partial ban in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I am fully aware that there exist certain frictions between Jason Campbell70 and the administrative staff here on Reddit. To be quite honest, these disagreements didn't just sprout up yesterday or following the Japanese Grand Prix; this ban cannot simply be viewed through such a narrow lens. Furthermore, I recognize the fact that I previously advocated for lifting the bans on darkmarlin16 and Joza Bistranska, which was perhaps not the most prudent move on my part, and as a result, my subsequent requests may have lost some of their weight.

However, considering that beneath all that rebellious veneer, Jason Campbell70 is actually a more than welcome and necessary member of this Formula 1 community—given that his profound understanding of the sport significantly elevates the quality of our discussions—I would ask mistybear87, stormybadger8, and Terry Carter2 to please reconsider the partial ban imposed upon him.
Tyler Bennett5 and darkmarlin16 are both out of the loop right now; whether they've simply moved on or their time has run out remains to be seen, but while they aren't here, there is really no point in trying to reach any conclusions...

William Bennett53 said:Massa finds himself in an enviable position here. He’s managed to outpace his qualifying performance, he didn't burn through a set of softs during Q3, and he’s secured the right to choose his tire strategy. If he can execute a clean start and manage to leapfrog some of those heavy hitters ahead of him—the McLarens, Kimi, or Alonso—he might actually find himself fighting for his seat on Sunday. ☕

That post right after qualifying was almost prophetically accurate, wasn't it? 🙏 🙏

And so, congratulations to Vettel on yet another predictably dominant victory—one that arguably deserves to be measured by a championship title.

Congratulations, of course, to the aforementioned Massa on securing second place—a result that might just be enough to keep his seat for next season.

Congratulations to Kamui for the absolute mania he stirred up among the home crowd—honestly, even in my living room, the four of us were celebrating like typical Americans watching a podium finish. And as for that third-place finish, hopefully, it’s enough to secure his spot with the team. If you judge by the look on Monisha's face toward the end and right after the checkered flag, I suspect he won't be far from the top next time. 🙏 👍 😁

Regarding the collision between Alonso and Kimi, I find myself opposed to any penalty. It really should be viewed as nothing more than a racing incident. I feel for Alonso—and honestly, that’s saying something, given how much I'd prefer anyone else to take the title instead of Vettel again. Regardless of the fact that Kimi ended up with a broken wing, I don't believe a penalty is warranted here.

Watching Grosjean pilot my Renault, I can only say this: 🤦

Roger Wright94 said:Could someone provide a brief summary of the final grid situation for tomorrow's start?
Is Jenson Button the only one facing a 5-place penalty?
Are both Sauber cars really starting ahead of Alonso? (That Sauber team is such an unpredictable beast).

I also need one more clarification: did everyone from the Fourth Quarter who completed their qualifying lap start on the exact same tire compounds used during that session? (I don't mean just having the same number of sets, but specifically using the same rubber—there is a bit of a debate going on here).

Is there any resource where I can check which specific tires everyone has available for tomorrow?
Everyone surely has two new sets of hards, but how many have fresh softs left?

Mass didn't actually drive in the Fourth Quarter; he just sat in P10 behind Hulk (who was also penalized for a gearbox change), so he likely has an extra set of softs. On top of that, he can choose whichever tires he wants for the start, while the others are stuck on the softs they used during the Fourth Quarter.

stormybadger8 said:Ferrari was actually the fastest during race simulations, specifically Massa😳

Looking at the race simulations, Grosjean was actually the quickest. Kimi was running on an entirely different program testing the rear wing and livery, while Kamui followed with a slight gap to Massa, and then Vettel. It’s highly unlikely that Ferrari will be slow here. Barring some unpredictable chaos—an alternator failure, a sudden downpour, or a massive pile-up—it's hard to see anyone taking this race away from Vettel...

I'm also hoping we finally see a decent result for Kamui. A win would be pure fantasy, but even a podium finish would be incredible. He just needs to prove he isn't a liability and secure his seat for next year.

Look, it’s not exactly a game-changer for this specific race, but I’ve been wondering about the technicalities: Felipe Massa finished 11th and missed out on Q3. However, once Hulkmann's penalty was applied, he effectively bumped up into tenth. Does that mean he gets to choose his tires now, just like everyone else who didn't make it into Q3? I assume he does, but with the way the FIA operates, you can never be entirely certain. If my assumption holds, Massa finds himself in an enviable spot: he starts ahead of where he actually qualified, he hasn't burned through a set of softs in Q3, and he earns the right to pick his starting compound. If he manages a clean getaway and can jump one of those heavy hitters ahead of him—say, someone from McLaren, Kimi Räikkönen, or Fernando Alonso—he might actually have a legitimate shot at proving his worth to the team tomorrow. ☕

Unfortunately, whether Vettel is at fault or not doesn't have any clear connection to whether he receives a penalty or not...
Personally, I’m hoping they just leave him alone now and stop with these senseless penalties. Perhaps tomorrow the championship will be saved by an alternator or Webber stepping in. 😁
2012 Japanese GP (Suzuka) - Oct 7th in Formula 1 ·
I believe they mentioned during the broadcast that he burned through his soft tire set back in Q1...

But honestly, trying to make that work with just one lap is just plain idiotic. I’m not even slightly sorry that Kimi spun out and effectively ruined qualifying for half the teams in Q3. If they had just run that single lap when they were supposed to, they wouldn't be sitting there clutching their heads in frustration right now.
The best part? If there actually end up being mass penalties for ignoring yellow flags, that same Kimi might just end up jumping several spots on the starting grid. 😁 🤣
