RIP my external hard drive :( in IT Support ·
boldbadger0 said:As the title suggests, my external drive just died. When I plug it into my PC, the light flickers and it starts making this humming noise—as if it’s actually working (sorry, bad descriptions, I'm trying my best here). Basically, when I go to File Explorer to open the drive, nothing happens. The computer recognizes it's connected, but it shows up as "Local Disk F:" instead of its actual name. Every time I try to open it or even right-click, the whole window freezes and doesn't unfreeze until I unplug the drive. Running chkdsk through the command prompt does absolutely nothing—literally zero response. I tried using Disk Drill and managed to recover a few files, but it was barely anything.

I don't really feel like lugging this thing to a repair shop right now, so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for things I could try myself? Or is it a lost cause?

Sorry if this is a dumb question—I'm definitely not tech-savvy, so yeah.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it did take a couple of falls a while back, though it worked fine after each one. It didn't fall right before it stopped working.

Sorry, friend, but there aren't any good repair shops around here. HDDs aren't meant to be dropped. Say goodbye to the drive and whatever data is on it.
The start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1) in War in Ukraine ·

Fast forward to today, and here is the update: Srna and Vukojević have left Kyiv.

I'll let you guys draw your own conclusions.

What are we supposed to conclude here—that Russia ramped up their offensive, or that these guys just lack backbone?🤔

"What the hell are you even doing here? Look, I'm Russian too, but I live in this state. You've got your own country, and we've got ours. Shouldn't you be busy fixing things back home instead? Is everyone over there loaded, living like they're in the UAE? You guys are nothing but puppets."

Watching this clip, it's clear that if a soldier talks back, he's dealt with immediately. This isn't the West, where you can't touch a Russian soldier without some human rights excuse being thrown in your face. Here, the cameraman would be gone just as fast—and nobody's going to bother bringing them to court.

The Russians couldn't care less about how long this war drags on—it's not like they're punching a clock. They’re fully aware the West isn't going to step in.

But I’d still argue—Canadians, Austrians—they actually care deeply. So, yeah, a cold person can just be indifferent to all this.

Exactly. That’s why the Canadians put tanks on the border to stop refugees from crossing.
And our leadership already offered to take in 1,000 refugees when we don't even have enough funds to rebuild houses back home... once again, taking food out of our own mouths to help others. There are wealthy nations out there—let them handle it (Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Spain).

Honestly, this place has been a mess for at least 7 or 8 years now... it might seem fine to some newcomer, but for me, it’s just a joke—a total playground for kids.🥱

The animation is top-tier—the voice acting is spot on, too. It’s actually engaging, unlike those dry, lifeless readings you see in most basic cartoons...
The visuals are great. I honestly don't get these trolls claiming the animation is bad—have they even seen our pride and joy, the "Enchanted Forest"??? 🤮
Patrick Martin said:🙂 Look, I wouldn't even give Berenger the nod, but I'll go all in for Hauer🙄
Berenger had some decent flicks in the late eighties, but man, he really spiraled in his personal life, and you could see that mess bleeding right into his career.
It's a bummer, though, because I think he was actually a pretty solid actor—he just had that raw, intense look about him.

One-hit wonder?

Maybe the biggest example is Christopher Reeve who we already talked about. I caught him in a few other alright movies later on (like *Above Suspicion* from '95), but let's be real, he could never quite shake that Superman shadow.

Even someone like Michael York... after *Logan's Run*, I don't think he ever landed another role that actually mattered.🤷
He just kept cycling through those typical PBS period dramas, you know? Just your standard TV actor.

And that rugby player guy from *Flash Gordon* is another textbook case of a one-hit wonder, even if that movie is one of the biggest cinematic disasters ever made.

Oh, and Mike Myers from *Wayne's World* is definitely an OHW in my book.🤷

Actually, even Bruce Campbell from *Evil Dead* is basically a trilogy-hit wonder.

Well, Berenger is a legend from "Platoon"...
I actually caught him in a supporting role in "Inception" the other day.
IMDb lists him with 92 credits!!😲

If we're being honest, William Shatner is also an OHW since everyone knows him from Star Trek...🤷

briskhound2 said:Berenger and Hauer are OHW? Come on, guys... those two are actors who basically have work year-round. It doesn't even matter if their movies are massive hits or total flops—if they're in the cast, you know there’s at least some level of quality there, or at least their specific instinct for a role, if nothing else. On the flip side, George Lazenby is definitely OHW, and I'd throw Jaye Davidson onto that list too, considering he did Stargate and The Crying Game and then just... vanished. The guy had serious potential, though... and then there's Carrie Henn from Aliens, who pretty much walked away from Hollywood right after that one.

Exactly—if we're using that logic, then Tommy Lee Jones fits too—he isn't overexposed, but his films are consistently great and grounded (except for Men in Black).

Patrick Martin said:Look, just because it's possible doesn't make it realistic. That’s like saying the movie *300* is actually a documentary or something. ☕

How so? Mass panic, blood everywhere... bullet dust in the walls... how is that not realistic?🤷
Fine, the lead actor didn't die—but it's as realistic as any movie can be. Let's ignore the fact that an enemy jet was hovering over Burger King and the soldiers were late...

I haven't seen 300—based on the cover, it looks like Gladiator, which wasn't even for me.

Patrick Martin said:man, give me a break. if someone near you just fired a shot into the air—like, some total coward doing it—I bet you'd be shitting your pants from pure terror. 😁

Not quite—and unlike many kids on this board, I actually served in the Gulf War—but you missed the point. When a bullet hits flesh it has to spray blood... that's what I mean... and there's plenty of that in this movie.
Even Superman—Christopher Reeve basically defined that role... sure, actors take on other parts, but those projects usually aren't labeled "blockbusters," so they just don't get the same traction...
Olympus Has Fallen (2013) in Movies ·
It’s honestly staggering how many people here just seem to hate on America...

Just look back at those old war movies everyone used to praise—you know, the ones where they glorify child soldiers in the resistance or show hundreds of enemy troops being wiped out by a single soldier with an endless supply of ammo...

You get my point, right?

EDIT — Personally, I think Olympus is actually quite good—it shows combat and casualties realistically. The ending is its own thing, and I don't see why everyone is acting so shocked by it...🙂
It isn't some "Evergreen" classic that critics have been obsessing over for decades—those films where there isn't a drop of blood to be seen; a guy gets shot, grabs his wound, and just peacefully lies down on the floor.🤣🤣🤣🤣
My take:
image

Screw all these guys carrying handguns—the hero always finds a way to slip away, just like in the movies—but when this guy makes a deal, there’s nowhere to hide... I wouldn't want to be on his bad side.

mistyotter35 said:The characters feel incredibly two-dimensional, particularly those residing at Xavier's school. They just listen and follow along, appearing as harmonious and uniform as a group of Smurfs. I suppose Wolverine is the only one who actually stands out from that mold.
And as for Magneto... does anyone here actually feel any desire to identify with him?

1 — that was simply the writers' and producers' vision—so there it is... (if you look at today's military—equally obedient, equally uniform)
2 — I’d much rather have his abilities—not his personality—than those of Wolverine... and if you think about it, magnetism is actually possible today, whereas we still don't have a Legolas capable of tearing through concrete and steel without leaving a scratch.🙂

wiredraven82 said:I honestly can't wrap my head around why Wolverine wasn't included in this poll.🤷

This is easily the most idiotic and completely useless entry in the entire X-Men series—honestly, it feels like someone ran out of ideas or cash and just rushed this through production to get it over with. They could have just given every single character their own standalone movie instead; then we might actually have had a decent franchise.
I don't get it—Wolverine is such an unlikable character. Why on earth do so many people identify with him?? 🤷

Matthew Thomas3 said:I agree with most of this, but you shouldn't get too hung up on the Oscar count (by the way, Crowe only has one, not two) because those awards can be pretty questionable sometimes. Not to mention how Scorsese had to wait until The Departed to finally snag a Directing Oscar.
But if we're talking strictly about trophies, as much as I love Denzel, I don't think he's a two-time winner. Maybe Crowe is ahead of him in that regard.

Crowe?? The guy with those weirdly slanted eyebrows??? 🤣🤣🤣
Just thinking about how ridiculous he looked in *Gladiator*...😂
