It felt like today was about much more than just getting those tires up to temperature.

Getting those tires up to temperature and warming the brakes works best while the safety car is still out on the track. That allows you to maintain a decent gap so you can actually afford to play it safe. What we're seeing from the leader right after the safety car pulls in isn't strategy—it's just a desperate jerk to try and pull away before the restart.

But since Hamilton and Max are treated like they're untouchable, he gets away with it.

Then people go and blame NASCAR.
What happened with Hamilton is just a perfect example of what gets allowed every single time a Safety Car heads toward the pits.
NASCAR keeps talking about maintaining a constant speed, but honestly, what constant speed? Just wait until the next race—if there's another Safety Car, we'll see whoever is in the lead just slamming the brakes and then hitting the gas again.

So, if they drop from 66 down to 51, what happens then? Honestly, I don't think people realize how much chaos ensues when everyone starts slamming on the brakes the second they get that notification that the Safety Car is heading to the pits. It’s pure madness.
They keep doing that—gas, brake, gas, brake. I honestly thought Lewis Hamilton was pushing harder on the brakes, but looking at the data, this 66-51 gap isn't actually as bad as I first assumed.
I think people were way too hard on Lewis Hamilton initially. I’ll be the first to admit I jumped on the bandwagon and criticized him too, but looking back, his braking after the Safety Car was just terrible.
What tripped up Sebastian Vettel was simply that he ended up in the pits, which wasn't part of his plan at all.

I think the issue is pretty clear: Lewis Hamilton was driving way too slow. Doing 40 mph is just asking for trouble. Whoever was trailing him could have just tapped the gas and blown right past him, jumping from 30 to 55 in a heartbeat.

Stroll got lucky today, honestly. It's frustrating seeing someone like Mark Ruffalo—who I know is a proven talent—unable to crack the top three.

Mark Ruffalo is just a driver, nothing more.
If he were truly elite, he would have landed a seat with a top-tier team by now. He's approaching 30 soon, yet he's still nowhere near driving for Ford or Mercedes.

It makes absolutely no sense if they don't penalize him for that hit in Turn 1.

True, but Valtteri Bottas lost his footing a bit when he clipped the curb.

I need to go back and rewatch the footage to see if Finac junior actually messed up.

Valtteri Bottas was absolutely flying during those last 12 or 13 laps. It was something else. 🙏

I would have given anything to see his onboard footage and watch the steering wheel telemetry from that stretch!

You're speaking with a lot of heat right now, but I won't hold it against you. I have a feeling you might see things differently down the road. 😁
At least, I hope so.

analogpilot16 said:Come on, let's be real. If I remember correctly, Hamilton actually asked if he should slow down if Valtteri Bottas wasn't fighting for position anyway.

And then what? "Hey, Valtteri, why don't you just slow down? Because if you don't, Sebastian Vettel and I are going to blow right past you, and life just isn't fair."

Asking through the team radio for Bottas to slow down just so he can hold up Sebastian Vettel.
Oh, Lewis... it's honestly just sad to watch.

Max Verstappen was absolutely flying today.
I remember one time when Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton were neck and neck; Vettel was clocking in at 321-322, while Hamilton was pushing 348. 😁

It’s getting a little concerning to see Hamilton struggle whenever he really needs to floor it.

Actually, looking at the steering wheel telemetry now, he didn't hit the brakes—he just lifted off the throttle. My mistake.

@coastalwolf6/">@@coastalwolf6, are you sure about that? I could have sworn he was on the brakes.

mellowtiger83 said:What are you guys even talking about? The leader has every right to set the pace. Honestly, Sebastian Vettel will be lucky if he doesn't end up getting a black flag at this rate.

There’s a massive difference between setting the pace and slamming on the brakes just to force the cars behind you into a mess.

mellowtiger83 said:What on earth is he talking about? A red flag just because of some loose debris?

The track is just too fast.
I dare you to take your car out on the interstate and see how it handles hitting a rock about three inches wide. Then come back and tell me how it went. 😁

The track is littered with debris. They aren't clearing enough of it after every SC, so it just keeps piling up.

The constant drama and political games are absolutely killing F1 today.
It’s just silly.

I’d probably label No Country for Old Men as provincial. At least among his more recent stuff.

If I had to pick a standout, though, I’d say his role in Days of Heaven was perhaps his finest work.
