Webcam not working in Computer Peripherals ·
Right-click on This PC, go into System Properties, hit the hardware tab, and then open the Device Manager

Do you see any yellow exclamation points or question marks popping up?

So you swapped out the USB ports you use for your mouse and webcam? What was the reason for that? 🤔

Did you try installing the latest driver (check under Downloads)?

What webcam are you running (brand and model)? Also, which version of Windows are you on?

To make a "bootable ISO image," I just use CDBurnerXP (specifically Burn ISO image).

If neither CPU-Z nor SIW can give you the answer you're looking for (like actually identifying the motherboard), just try running EVEREST (Ultimate edition)
.
I’m typing this on an old rig I've got lying around—the motherboard is an ASRock K7S8X R3. EVEREST picked it up without any issues, so it should be able to identify your 😉
too.

Joshua Moore96 said:Do I actually need to have an OS like Windows XP already on my machine before I can put Windows 7 on it, or can I just run Windows 7 as a standalone install?

If you're looking to move from XP to this version, don't bother with an "upgrade"; go with a "custom installation" instead. Just make sure you back up all your important files first before you start the process.😉

Since CPU-Z didn't really cut it, maybe SIW will be more useful (just grab the portable version without the installer)

Once you have it open, check under hardware, specifically the Motherboard section (Manufacturer, model)

If that still turns up nothing, then you're going to have to actually crack open the case. 🙄
UPS under $90 in Computer Peripherals ·
The model you mentioned in post #1 has this "Turbo Boost" feature; I'm assuming that refers to the Automatic Voltage Regulator.
It’s easily the best price out of everything listed on GovWin, and it's still under $200.
UPS under $90 in Computer Peripherals ·
What kind of gear are you planning to plug into the UPS? Are we just talking about the PC, or are you looking to cover all the peripherals too—like the modem, phone, external drives, or even the printer/scanner?

Check this out: Opti-ups VS-600C, 600VA, 345W - GovWin (manufacturer's site)
IMO, it’s plenty 🙄

From the "Operating system" dropdown menu, pick any Windows 7 64-bit
Camera, Foxconn, Camera driver, 5.2.7.1, 3.3 MB, 2009/10/23
Unpack the ZIP, run the Setup, it'll ask you about the Dell Webcam (if it isn't already included) and finish up the driver installation
🙂

So, what model are you actually running? 🤔

vividwolf1 said:I need some software for my webcam. I had the Dell Webcam working fine back when I was on Windows Vista, but now that I've moved to Windows 7 64-bit, it clearly isn't working on the new OS, and I have no clue why. Does anyone know of a similar free program?

Check if your Dell laptop is actually on this list.
Dell 21 inch monitor - any thoughts? in Computer Peripherals ·
The monitor sold for about $103, specifically $33 (actually 102.95); check the Federal Reserve exchange rate for USD 😉

Nathan Ramos62 said:I checked the BIOS but couldn't find it. Is it possible my board just doesn't have that option?
Here's what I'm running:
BIOS: Phoenix - Award Workstation BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
ATI Radeon hd 4300/4500 Series

By the way, what kind of rig are we talking about here? Brand, model? You might need to grab the specific update directly from the manufacturer's website.

Nathan Ramos62 said:I'm following everything, but I don't see this latest "msahci" thing.

Try a quick reboot and jump straight into the BIOS (hit Del or F8). Under the "Main" tab, you should see an option for "SATA configuration." From there, just toggle between IDE or AHCI; at least that's how it works on my rig.🙄

driftingfalcon51 said:I can't tell if this is a Windows issue or what, but whenever I boot up my laptop and everything goes black after I log in (zero icons on the desktop, no Windows Taskbar, nothing...), then when I mash that little arrow key repeatedly, the Sticky Keys prompt pops up, which is how I finally managed to get online.

So you log into Windows 7 (do you even know which version?) and all you see is a BLACK DESKTOP? 😲

Are you talking about the indicator above the Shift key? That's Caps Lock.
