Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Keith Stewart17 said:Hey everyone,

I have a quick question. I don't want to clutter things up by starting a whole new thread, so I figured I'd just ask here.

Right now, I'm running Windows 7 ultimate x86. I'm planning on moving over to x64 eventually, but I'd really like to test the waters with the 64-bit version first. My plan is to install Windows 7 Enterprise x64 onto a separate disk partition so I can set up a dual-boot system. Is this actually doable? Any advice on how to pull it off would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just install VirtualBox on your current setup, then use that to mess around with Windows 7 Enterprise.
If you decide to go through with the dual boot for those two Windows 7 versions, follow this (similar) process.

Which program are we talking about here? Windows Defender? Or some other antivirus or antimalware software?
You can actually turn off notifications for specific security or maintenance activities if they're getting on your nerves.

Thanks... got it installed successfully. Just one more thing though—I can't seem to get this damn thing set up. Wireless. Just one word, but it covers a massive headache if you don't know what you're doing. It works fine on my buddy's machine, though. It’s not working at my place—I'm on Optima. I've got a Thompson 780WL from T-Mobile.I've been wrestling with this all day, and I just can't get the wireless to connect, even though I've installed every single driver available. It keeps throwing that error: "Windows was unable to connect to Linksys(bla, bla)..." Look, I’m not exactly a tech wizard, so I could really use some help here—preferably from someone who has actually dealt with this nonsense before. What am I supposed to do?

Can I sign up for DSL service without buying a new ADSL modem if I already have one on hand?
You need to make sure you have an Annex A type modem. Modems from other providers here in the States are different—they use the Annex B standard. That’s why a T-Mobile modem won't work if you're trying to get online through Optima.

Minimum system requirements are met, but just to be safe, run Windows 7 upgrade Advisor to see if your laptop can actually handle the pace. 😉

What's actually the difference between these versions? Which one should I grab?

🤷

Mine used to get > too—basically, if I didn't touch the thing for a little while, the PC would just go to sleep on me.

Checking "Don't require a password" fixed that headache right up. 🙂

wake

"Change when the computer sleeps": This is where you set how long it takes for the screen to go dark or the PC to enter sleep mode.

"Require a password when the computer wakes": Just select "Don't require a password" here.

I’m almost afraid to even touch it. You think it's actually safe to mess with these voltages? Like, zero chance of something going south?🤷

"Options are: 700mV, 800mV, 900mV (default), 1000mV."

In my opinion, you aren't going to damage the card. The manufacturer tested it using these specific voltage levels, so it's designed to work with at least one of them. 😁

How would I go about getting access?
I'm guessing I'll probably need to swing by a local branch and ask them to set it up in person.
And then once they give me the security token, I just play around with the interface from there?
Am I totally off base here, or am I on the right track? 😂

If you're using the US layout, you'll see US indicated in the bottom right of the Taskbar; once you switch over to English, it'll show up as EN-US or EN-US

casualdriver83 said:Is Ultimate actually the heaviest one? I downloaded an all-in-one pack so I can pick whatever I want—not really a huge deal—but still... if Ultimate is supposedly the best for streaming and movies, then that's what I'll grab.

stormybadger8 said:I can't tell if my motherboard is just messing with me or what. What should the voltage on the PCI-E port even be set to? Things are getting weird—it keeps jumping between 700mV and 900mV on its own depending on certain settings. Might be some kind of glitch somewhere.🤷

Maybe I should stop using "auto" and just set it manually. Any idea what the ideal voltage would be?

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...id=3449#manual (pp. 42, 43)

says

"PCI Express Clock Drive
Allows you to adjust the amplitude of the PCI Express and North Bridge clock.
Options are: 700mV, 800mV, 900mV (default), 1000mV."

So just play around with the values and see what works.

Is there some way to disable this auto-wake feature? 🤷

casualdriver83 said:Hey everyone, need some help. I've got an older rig here.I want to install Windows 7(I had it before but it kept freezing and stuff... :S) anyway... specs: Intel(R) Pentium 4 3.00 GHz, 1.25GB RAM, no dedicated GPU :S just some integrated thing with 96MB :S So I'm wondering, will Windows 7 run smoothly like Windows XP did? :S Please, if anyone can help me out—I really want to move to Windows 7—does anyone have suggestions for mods or settings I can tweak to stop the lagging? :S Thanks everyone... and please don't post any nonsense. Thanks!

AverMedia AVerTV Hybrid duo ii ( A188
It shows up in Device Manager once in a while, works fine, then just vanishes into thin air.
I don't think that's the issue here. Even when I pull it out, the exact same thing keeps happening.😕

Maybe the laptop battery was just dying when you plugged in that new hardware, so you popped it on the charger in the meantime. 🤷
Webcam not working in Computer Peripherals ·
What kind of laptop are you running? Does it have a built-in webcam that might be (out of nowhere) clashing with this Logitech? 🤔
Webcam not working in Computer Peripherals ·
🤷 What else am I supposed to suggest, besides having you try plugging that webcam directly into your router or modem, assuming it even has a USB port
Webcam not working in Computer Peripherals ·
Can you see your Logitech Webcam listed in the Device Manager?
Did you try plugging the camera and mouse back into the original USB ports on the tower?

It might actually help if you plug the camera directly into the router or modem—I'm guessing one of those has a spare USB port. 🙄
The router/modem is always running anyway, right? And there's no point even using the camera if you aren't "online."

Windows 7 x64 is... My PC keeps shutting down and rebooting on its own constantly. Every single time.😕

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus

There's the GA-X58A-UD3R and the GA-EX58-UD3R. Which one are you running?

I really hope that beast of yours is still under warranty, because you could easily be looking at a hardware failure here. Start by measuring the temperatures..
Even if that power supply of yours is top-tier, I really hope it can handle all the monsters you’ve crammed inside that case. Good grief, you're running six hard drives.

Exactly. Just hop into the BIOS, check the PC health status, and see at what temperature the system starts rebooting.
