Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
driftingfalcon51 said:Yeah... I don't have anything else. Maybe that's it. But what if the Windows Taskbar is just hidden? What am I supposed to do then? 😁

Move your cursor to the bottom of the screen. Once the Taskbar pops up, right-click it and look for an unhide option or something similar. 🙄

driftingfalcon51 said:So, I got this link: http://i54.tinypic.com/e13rew.jpg... Now what? 😕

Is that really what your desktop looks like? Not even a single icon (like Computer or my Documents)? 🤔

Maybe your Windows Taskbar is just hidden?

driftingfalcon51 said:Help!

I have a MASSIVE problem here. I can't tell if it's a Windows issue or what, but every time I boot up my laptop and log in, everything is just black. There are no icons on the desktop, nothing—not even the Windows Taskbar at the bottom. When I keep clicking the Start button, the Sticky Keys prompt pops up, which is how I finally managed to get onto the internet. Look, I am clearly not a computer expert... but I really don't want to call tech support for this. If this turns out to be some tiny, simple fix, they’ll just laugh at me for not being able to handle it myself. I hope I explained the situation well enough, but please, if anyone knows how to fix this, help! 😢

driftingfalcon51 Asks:
Acer Extensa 5635 G

Try to take a snapshot of your desktop.

Just hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard.
Just open up MS Paint or whatever other program you use to view JPG files.
Just hit Ctrl + V to paste.
Just save that file to your desktop or something.
Just upload it. TinyPic Resize / message board
Just drop the link you get right here on the forum.

Probably "Rest of The World" 🤔

Carl Brown4 said:Hey,
I'm looking to pick up Windows 7 Pro, but I need it to be installable on multiple machines. That means I specifically need the "Retail" version, not "OEM," since OEM locks you to a single PC. The problem is, I can't find any online stores in Washington, D.C. that list both versions—it seems like everyone just stocks OEM...

Where can I grab a "Retail" copy?
😕

(check availability) 😉

Andrew Kern67 said:This isn't an app backup. It's just saving the user profile.

Exactly. You're just moving files, not the actual software that created them.

"Keep in mind that choosing the Custom installation won't save your software, so you'll have to reinstall whatever you need once you're on Windows 7."

northernviper14 said:Alright, look. I'm running Windows XP and I've got a technician coming over tomorrow to set things up. I want to know if I can just install the new OS without wiping all my programs. Honestly, the thought of reinstalling everything from scratch sounds like a nightmare. If there's a way to do this without messing too much with the installation process, let me know. No instructions provided.Thanks.👍

Laura Hill2 said:ook 😁 Thanks a million. 🙂

So... a buddy told me I could just borrow a disc with the week's updates and that I wouldn't even need to break anything. He claimed I could just run a standard installation like any other software. That’s how he handled it, anyway. :S
I'm confused now. Is it actually possible to pull that off the way he described?

Installing and reinstalling Windows 7.

Check the thread below. Choosing "Using The custom" installation and wiping the drive clean.

Roger Brown50 said:How much can this thing actually take? I'm sitting on 2 gigs right now and was thinking about slapping another 2 gigs in there. My motherboard is an ASUS p5kpl-am—can you check if it supports 4 gigs total? Also, I've got an NVIDIA 9600; can I just toss in those extra 2 gigs without breaking anything? It should work since I see there's another RAM slot available, right?

FYI, http://www.asus.com/Search.aspx?SearchKey=p5kpl-am 😉
Christian Morris80 said:Honestly, I doubt any game is actually life-altering. But if it is, and it refuses to run on Windows 7 no matter what compatibility mode you throw at it, VMware 😉is always a solid fallback.

bluetinker17 said:an Intel Celeron 2.8 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM

The CPU is fine, but seriously, think about upgrading that memory. 1GB is basically the bare minimum required to run Windows 7; I’d suggest bumping it up to at least 2GB, especially since RAM is dirt cheap these days anyway.😉

Exactly. Let's just go ahead and blame Steven 😂 🤣 😍

The description says it's for Windows Vista 32-bit, but it actually works on Windows 7 64-bit too. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes, okay? 😉

bluetinker17 said:So this is what my advisor sent me, http://www.easy-share.com/1912266071/untitled.JPG . It says at the top that I can run Windows 7, but I don't get this whole "custom installation required" part :/:/ . Why couldn't they just make it a simple yes or no? :S

They mean "custom" or a "clean installation"😉

bluetinker17 said:Also, one more thing—once I finally make the jump to XP, what's actually the difference between SP3 and Windows XP Service Pack 2?

There aren't any massive or critical differences (link)

Zachary Miller14 said:Hey guys, why does Windows 7 32-bit show only 3.25GB of memory when I have 4GB installed? Is it just showing that amount, or is that all it can actually use?

D’oh – 4GB RAM, but only 3.25GB usable on Windows 7 🙄

Jamie Murphy2 said:I tried installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 on my desktop using SATA drivers, but the installation just froze. I tried again, and nothing. Then I tried a different disc with Windows XP Service Pack 2 and it froze at the exact same spot. I'm starting to worry those SATA drivers messed things up, and now I'm terrified to try installing it on this new laptop I just bought.

If I recall correctly, there was already some discussion in this PDF about installing XP on a SATA drive. You probably need to go into the BIOS and disable AHCI or something like that. 🙄

What kind of laptop are we talking about?

bluetinker17 said:I'm running a Gigabyte board here, 865P chipset, LGA 1150... so, basically, am I going to run into trouble with these drivers? :S

Looking at the official LGA 1150 - GIGABYTE page, neither of those two motherboards with the 865P chipset offers any drivers for Windows 7. 😢

Roger Brown50 said:Look, I’m not talking about clicking a link to open a page and checking your inbox. My brother actually uses a Gmail grabber—basically a desktop gadget. Whenever someone hits him up, a notification pops up right on his desktop, then he just clicks it to jump straight into Gmail. Here, nothing happens. No sound, no alert, nothing to show an email even arrived. 😁I'd take what my brother has any day. 😛
