offtopic: Speaking of Taekwondo—I was walking past the medical center near the old airfield today and noticed a sign from that TKD club over by the Boeing plant. It says "TKD Self-Defense," with a heavy emphasis on women's classes.
I’m actually curious about how that setup looks. Don't hit me with the "go check it out yourself" line, because I really don't have the time. 🙂

Well, because he specifically mentioned he doesn't care about anything except the soles being thin enough so he can actually work his finger movements during drills.
As for me, I’m honestly too embarrassed to buy any pair that won't let me run properly. I nearly killed myself running in my regular sneakers the other day.

Hey everyone.
I’m looking for some advice regarding footwear for the gym. My daughter has just started Taekwondo, and she doesn't have the right shoes yet.
Since her instructor hasn't given us any specific guidance on what to get, I was hoping you all could help me out a bit. What should I be looking for to buy her? Thanks!
My mom actually dealt with an oil deposit in her eye for an entire year. They finally got it removed, and aside from some occasional fluctuations in her blood pressure, she isn’t facing any major issues anymore.
Whether or not you'll regain vision depends on so many different variables, but my mom can see now—even though she couldn't before—it's just not perfect vision.
Birth control pills: yes or no?? in Women's Health ·
Look, maybe they just didn't sit right with you. I was actually one of the first people using them—I think they were called Celest back then when they first hit the market—and I dealt with bleeding for three whole weeks.
But once I switched over to a different brand, I never had a single issue again..

Oral contraceptives definitely come with their own set of side effects, but I’ve honestly never heard anything about them causing issues with fertility after you stop taking them—not once. In fact, if anything, they can actually help lower the risk of certain cancers.
Listen to what your doctor says, though, and make sure to get some liver function tests done first. If you have any underlying liver issues, you really shouldn't be on them. But if your levels look good? I don't see why you shouldn't take them.

It wasn't through my bank, either. I did it via the post office. I actually went ahead and mailed in all those payments dating back to 2005 last summer. And get this—in all that time, they never once sent me a single late notice. To be honest, it feels almost like a curse when they try to come after you for the money twice.
Traffic violation procedures in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
I wanted to ask for some advice, just in case I missed something important and someone else can fill in the gaps. I recently received a court order claiming I failed to pay my health insurance premiums back in 2005. The problem is, I tossed all my old records years ago, so I have absolutely no way to prove I actually made those payments. Now, they’re demanding I pay it all over again. Is there any way to fight this legally, or should I just bite the bullet, pay up, and make sure to stash my receipts for at least three years from now on? Thanks!
Look, I get it—milk is basically a staple for kids if you want them to have strong bones and proper development... but if an eight-year-old starts hitting early puberty because of some hormone cocktail used to boost dairy production, then honestly, forget it.
I’m genuinely curious though: is there any actual truth to this, or is it just another smear campaign against the dairy industry?
Do you honestly think it’s just a matter of pasteurization and sterilization? Like, there aren't any antibiotics hiding in there?

Back when I was on vacation, she suggested I try a single pill of Zoloft—which doesn't cause addiction, apparently—just to help me get through those two weeks without needing injections. And honestly? It actually worked. Now, I have a feeling they might be operating a bit "off the books," but hey, nobody is forcing you to walk through their door.
The food portions aren't strictly regulated either, and you definitely don't have to take the pills if you'd rather not. She didn't even give them to me personally; she just told me to go see my primary care physician. Once I explained the situation to my doctor, she wrote me a prescription for exactly one box to cover that specific timeframe.

I'm not crazy enough to stay on something like that for months on end...
Zoloft is a heavy-duty antidepressant, and in my case, it was prescribed by mistake. I wasn't on it for long, but the hand tremors lasted for a full month after I stopped taking it. Please, believe me, those are NOT "calming" pills. If you want something to calm your nerves, stick to herbal stuff like Valerian root or St. John's Wort. I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that she prescribed that to you. Just please, be careful with how easily these things are handed out. Don't just take my word for it, though—Google "Zoloft" and see for yourself, or look up what psychology journals say about it.
As for the acupuncture, my friend went and paid $27 for it. They recommended a specific diet, and she says it’s helping her, but I get the impression that with
that little amount of food, she would have lost weight regardless.
I still can't quite believe the whole thing with the Zoloft.:
Something feels off in Health ·
Honestly, I’ve been exactly where you are. There are so many different things that can trigger that kind of feeling—it could be anything from thyroid issues to polyps, or even just a sudden wave of panic. Don't waste your energy overthinking it or driving yourself crazy; just go see a doctor. You'll feel so much better once you have some actual answers.

I ended up paying a lot less, but that was just for my thyroid (specifically a soft tissue ultrasound of the neck), $83

I actually got mine done on a Saturday over at a local clinic near Brooklyn. It was a pretty smooth experience overall.
Sweaty feet help? in Health ·
I honestly had my own personal fashion catastrophe once when I decided to pair sneakers with sheer pantyhose. Yeah, yeah, I know—even someone losing their marbles wouldn't dream of doing that today, but back in the eighties, it wasn't such a bizarre move. These days, I just can't deal with nylon. Most of the time, I stick to thin cotton ankle socks. For me, it's mostly because my feet tend to sweat way too much in certain types of hosiery.
Adam Green2 said:Nah, I don't have any kind of formal panic disorder or those sudden panic attacks, if you know what I mean, but man, the anxiety is real... it's this heavy feeling, like total apathy mixed with this weird sense of regret for things I can't even name, it's just hard to put into words, honestly, it's pretty gnarly, and goodness, it absolutely wrecks me physically too, like my legs just turn to jelly... and sometimes, oh boy, after I've knocked over a mug or finished maybe two cups of joe, I'll be totally wired and jittery until lunch time!

Personally, I’m a huge coffee lover. I used to drink it whenever the mood struck me. That was until last summer. In my case, though, the culprit really was panic attacks. But before it reached that point, I kept trying to deny they were happening. I don't deal with them anymore (thank God!), but back then, I had to cut out coffee entirely for two months. At the time, I was deep into reading about psychology, and it seemed like almost everyone struggling with panic issues mentioned how they couldn't handle caffeine at all.
Still, I can't say for sure if you're having actual panic attacks; it might just be a straight-up caffeine intolerance.
Don't wash your hair during your period?!? WTF in Women's Health ·
My mother was raised the exact same way. That’s just how things were taught back then, but obviously, we know better now.
Honestly, I don't get why everyone is getting so worked up about this. There are countless examples like this from the past that we just laugh at today because people simply didn't have the right information back then. It makes me wonder—if my mother's mother were sitting here right now, what on earth would she say to my 9-year-old son if he actually asked her what a period is?
How to stop being such a pessimist? in Psychology ·
I’m not sure if this can even be posted—it feels more like an ongoing process than a single thought. Anyway, I know being pessimistic isn't helpful, but in a situation like this, would you say you lean more toward realism or optimism? Personally, I feel like it doesn't much matter to the universe whether the glass is half full or half empty; what really matters is which version you need to focus on to get through. For me, the breakthrough came when I stopped overanalyzing everything and quit playing the "what if" game. Honestly, I used to completely drain my energy just by spiraling into those thoughts. Now, I try to put all that mental effort into actually taking action instead.
How to gain weight? in Health ·
I actually have the exact opposite issue, but I’ll give it my best shot. I remember when Renée Zellweger was filming—I can't recall which movie specifically—she had to pack on about 30 pounds for the role. When people asked her how she managed it, she just said it was all Toblerone and Big Macs. But look, since you're still young and likely going to keep growing for another two or three years, you really ought to consider a much healthier approach. Maybe head down to your local Gold's Gym and have a chat with one of the trainers there; they really know their stuff, especially since they deal with bodybuilders all day long. Just don't freak out—if you want to actually look like a bodybuilder, you're looking at hours upon hours of training in addition to a solid diet. Good luck!
Nonverbal communication tips? in Psychology ·
You know, there’s this old bit of body language theory floating around: when someone crosses their legs, the direction of the top leg actually points toward the person they're most attracted to. For instance, if you’re chatting with someone and they suddenly pivot those crossed legs away from you? It’s a dead giveaway that you just said something totally off-base.
What's going on with me? in Psychology ·
There’s really no catch here. You just have to be one of those incredibly disciplined people who lives the whole "wellness" lifestyle—you know the type. They eat organic everything, stay hydrated constantly, hit the gym three times a week, get their eight hours of sleep, and basically refuse to let anything stress them out... It’s exhausting, honestly. It's like being a slave to the routine. But, if you aren't quite ready to commit to that level of perfection, just try rubbing some cream containing menthol or eucalyptus oil on your feet and palms instead—something like Biofreeze or a Deep Relief gel. Just one tiny warning: if you do that, do NOT accidentally touch your face or, heaven forbid, your eyes, because you will absolutely regret it!
