How do I create a poll on this forum? in Forum Help! ·
So I gave this a shot,

Like, when I'm typing out a message and I hit that little checkbox to turn it into a poll, I just get totally lost because I honestly have no clue what the next step is, so if anyone could maybe point me in the right direction,
I've looked everywhere and I just can't find the settings to actually make it happen.
Best alternatives to LimeWire? in Software ·
Honestly, Ares is my absolute favorite
http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/

I'm still rocking eMule too, mostly because if you can't find something on those other P2P networks, it’s almost guaranteed to be sitting there on eMule, and yeah, I know it's painfully slow, but hey, I guess I'll just take slow over having absolutely nothing at all, right?
Guys, I need help with my media player!!!!! in Software ·
Aaron Turner3 said:I'm using Azureus and just finished downloading this movie... I tried throwing it into BS Player because that's my go-to when the audio acts up, and everything works fine there, but then I try to open with Windows Media Player and it's totally fine, except I have absolutely no clue how to actually get the subtitles to show up in Windows Media Player!!!
HELP!!!🙏

oh man, lol.

So, you just hit open, navigate to where your movie is hiding, and right there in that same window, you'll see an option at the bottom that says USE SUBTITLE FILE, so just click that and point it to your subtitle file.
Honestly, if you just make sure the subtitle file has the exact same name as the movie file, it'll pretty much just work automatically without any extra steps.

Then just fire up the movie by choosing open with Windows Media Player,

or honestly, you can just grab both the movie and the subtitle file with your mouse and drag them both straight into the Windows Media Player window.

Just snap a photo of it and upload it to www.imageshack.us
Maybe some tech wizard on here will spot it and hook you up with the right driver.
Joshua Davis18 said:Symantec is honestly such a drama queen and flags stuff that isn't even a virus, just calling things "potentially suspicious" when they're totally fine.

Wait, where are you getting that from? It worked perfectly fine for me,

It actually happened to a buddy of mine using Avast, where I sent him a link to download this specific document and his Avast immediately starts screaming that it's a virus. But then I'll download the exact same thing, run it through Symantec to be safe, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it—it's clean! Then I send it back to my friend and suddenly Avast doesn't see any issues at all.
Honestly, I have no clue what's going on with Avast lately.

We were both downloading from the exact same link.

Joseph Lee42 said:Is there any way to actually search for people on AOL, like if I want to find someone from a specific city? Is that even an option?

Honestly, you can really only do that kind of searching through WhatsApp or Skype.
Basically, anyone can just find you on those lists if they're looking.

See, AOL works totally differently because it’s more like a mix of email and instant messaging, so you’re mostly just chatting with the people you manually add to your contact list. Personally, I just add my close friends and maybe some acquaintances, but that's about it—if someone has an AOL account, I'll just ask them for their email address so I can add them.

I actually prefer it over Skype or WhatsApp because you don't deal with nearly as many random creeps or spam messages.

If you're signing up for AOL just to meet new people, you're probably gonna be disappointed. You'd be better off registering on www.match.com or maybe some international site like www.tinder.com, but really it's whatever you're into. Personally, I've always been wary of online dating because everything feels so fake—like, you never truly know if you're talking to a decent person or just some total stranger pretending to be someone else. In my book, meeting people in person is always the way to go.
Honestly, I wouldn't touch McAfee if you're running an older, slower PC.
It just takes forever to boot up, so I really only suggest using McAfee for newer, beefier machines.
The background processes are pretty heavy—don't get me wrong, it's a solid antivirus that catches everything, it's just way too much for an old computer to handle.

If you're looking for the best option, my advice is to just download a few different ones and see which one actually works for you.
If you happen to have a virus active right now, try downloading a tiny little Trojan, maybe something around 250kb like a basic worm.
Once you run it, give it about four minutes, then run your antivirus scan to see how reliable it is at finding and cleaning out the infected files.
(I actually accidentally clicked on a worm once without checking if it was safe, and man, that thing managed to create 65 separate infections in just four minutes! But thank God Symantec was there to clean everything up and disinfect my system perfectly.

Amanda Ramos68 said:I would be seriously, incredibly grateful if anyone could point me toward a link for some free accounting software!!!!!!!!!! I just need it for stuff around the house, so it doesn't have to be some high-end professional setup, it just really can't be a limited demo version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

Man, I honestly only know about QuickBooks, which you definitely have to pay for, though you could always try out their trial run
Check out more info here , but as far as I know, QuickBooks is pretty much the gold standard for accounting software.
Bitdefender is honestly such a beast when it comes to fighting off Trojans.
I’ve personally put just about every antivirus out there through its paces, and if you ask me, Bitdefender comes out on top every single time.

Jesse Jones15 said:Basically, you just install a keylogger on his machine while he's away, and then you can see everything—every site he visited, every single thing he typed, all his passwords... everything.

Honestly, there's zero chance anyone could pull a stunt like that on me because I actually know my way around a computer and I recognize what every single process is doing, plus I've got a solid firewall set up so if I catch anything trying to leak data, I just track it down and kill it immediately.

That being said, I'm still gonna test this software out before I set it up for my brother, since he's pretty much clueless when it comes to tech and I basically act as his IT guy.

And look, if I ever found out one of my buddies was the one who made this, I’d report them instantly and make their life a total living hell, because honestly, that's not what a real friend does.

Man, that sounds pretty intense and dangerous if you try to mess with it yourself. Your best bet is probably just plugging something straight into your computer and trying to record the audio feed directly from there.

As for which adapters you’d need or how to actually wire the thing up, honestly, I haven't got a clue,
you really ought to ask a pro at an auto shop how to handle it. Those guys know their stuff and can tell you exactly which wire does what without blowing anything up.

Like, when I had a new stereo installed in my truck, I didn't have any of the right connectors, so the mechanic just cut all the wires and spliced them together manually to get it working.

So, wait, does that mean I’d have to install that thing on his computer just to "spy" on him?

Man, that is seriously low, honestly—doing stuff like that to a friend is just wrong.

Your buddy is gonna notice you messed with his machine, because let's be real, Nick isn't that clueless,
And if he's running any kind of firewall, he'll catch onto the fact that some random program is trying to leak data right away.

wearyviper8 said:So basically, I'm looking for some kind of software that tracks what someone else is doing on their computer so I can just sit back and read through all their chats later.

From what I’ve gathered—and this is just my take—that's pretty much wiretapping. If that person catches you snooping, you could be looking at a massive lawsuit or even actual prison time. It’s honestly just as shady as planting hidden cameras in a public restroom to spy on people while they're changing or using the facilities.

But hey, if we're talking about kids using computers running Windows Ultimate (or whatever the lower versions are called, my brain is fried), there's actually built-in parental controls. You can set those up to log everything they're browsing online, and probably even what they're typing on Microsoft Messenger, though I think you'd need admin rights to pull that off.

I'm pretty sure Adobe actually supports Blu-ray Disc playback now.
That's honestly such a huge win, though I've got no clue if there's even a decent Blu-ray Disc burner out there right now or where I'd even find the discs to burn them on, haha.

silvermason12 said:Honestly, I feel like Microsoft Office is just losing its edge every single day.
It seriously drives me crazy how they try to force their media player on you, then their browser, then their editor—at this rate, they’ll probably try to launch their own OS next!
Microsoft Office has become such a "jack of all trades" thing that by trying to do everything, they're totally losing sight of what they were actually built for, which was just getting the job done.
Version 6 was honestly the last time they made something truly solid; everything coming out now feels like they're just milking the brand for cash.

So, get this—about two years ago, I helped my neighbor set up his brand new PC and we realized right away that version 5 wasn't compatible at all; it wouldn't even recognize the disc drive, but once we switched to version 6, it worked perfectly. It was the exact same deal with my own new computer, where everything ran flawlessly on version 5 back on my old machine.

The newer versions of Microsoft Office come with the updated drivers and all that stuff you need to actually work with modern hardware.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if you've got a brand new rig, there's a real chance version 6 won't even run, so you might be stuck needing version 7 or something even newer just to get things moving.
Jack Garcia said:Just split your drive into two partitions, put Windows Vista on one and Windows XP on the other, and you're golden!

Man, it's actually not that simple because everyone keeps telling me I have to install the older OS first before moving to the newer one.
But I really don't want to wipe my Windows Vista installation—I’m trying to run the new one right over the top of it.
Could anyone who's actually pulled this off tell me the exact steps I should follow?

I need Windows Vista to be the main OS by default.
How do I install XP on top of Windows Vista?
I really don't want to wipe out my Vista installation because I desperately need XP to run these two specific programs that just won't work on Windows Vista,
I want Vista to stay as my main default Windows, so is there any way to get XP running while Vista is already up and active,
I’m looking to do a standard installation of XP—and please, I definitely don't want to deal with a virtual machine or VMware (so no virtual machines, please!)

I'm planning on carving out a partition for XP of maybe about 15 GB or so, since I won't be doing much on it anyway.

I know this topic has probably popped up around here before, so bear with me.
So, I’ve got this Pinnacle TV tuner card, but honestly, I can't stand their software—it doesn't even play nice with Windows Media Center, which is super annoying. Does anyone know of any other decent programs for watching TV on a PC that actually work with a Pinnacle card?

I'd really appreciate it if only the folks who are 100% sure their software works with Pinnacle cards chimed in, just so I don't waste my time!
