Hey rock fans, check this out here—killer ad for an awesome band playing in Chicago in just a couple days. I’d love to share the promo for the Chicago show too, but honestly, there's zero chance any of our local TV stations would ever run an ad for something like this... damn.
stormyviper11 hit the nail on the head... I just played my part, and honestly, some people loved what I did while others hated it... Now someone else—a third or fourth person—is going to step up, and eventually, someone will figure out their own way of doing things. Besides, the IEEE has always been a breeding ground for new talent and fresh ideas...
I’ll just correct one little thing Jerry Patel6 said, though. I didn't walk away; it was actually the people who had a totally different vision for the club who asked me to leave.😉
They basically chased off anyone coming "after me"... and man, you know exactly how that works...
March 7, 2007, starting at 6:00 PM Javits Center Pavilion 5
A TOTAL COUNTRY MUSIC SPECTACLE! Featuring: Stoja, Duško Kuliš, Jane, Sheriff Konjević, Dona Ares, Enes Begović, Tina, Saša Matić, Viki Miljković, Dejan Matić, Maja Marijana, Halid Muslimović, Mina Kostić, Kemal Malovčić, and Goga Sekulić
2. Where'd they get the info about the Dirty Three doc coming to Chicago?
Like I mentioned before, we've had Dirty Three confirmed for over a month now, but we still haven't heard the exact date (it'll be sometime between May 28th and 30th). Now it's obvious why we were kept in the dark... someone else beat us to the punch... The ticket was supposed to be $22...
The agency asked for way more cash for Mick Jagger than for Dirty Three, which makes zero sense...
but looks like Dirty Three is playing the factory too, which explains why we're stuck waiting a month for their show even though they were confirmed ages ago... damn, British agencies, man...
Harvard University actually has a pretty solid second stage...
MIT is hosting SEPTICA 😈
College of Liberal Arts is kind of a joke... they'll have Overflow, but those guys played like seven shows in Washington, D.C. over just six months... I won't even get into Green Day headlining 🙄
Guitars are just for indie kids... if you heard someone like Macan Gustafsson rip through some Stooges or Sonic Youth straight from the gut, you wouldn't even think about picking up a guitar...
lol you guys seriously thought I was mad? ...my emojis aren't even working on my work computer right now... honestly, that whole "holier-than-thou" attitude you guys have is getting a bit old, but what would it even matter if I actually got pissed off about it? 😉
Some of you guys were probably still in diapers while I was out jumping in mosh pits and listening to my parents blast some weird noise music. That’s why there's so much jazz influence in everything; if it wasn't for Mingus, Coltrane, or Coleman, today's rock wouldn't even sound the way it does. Honestly, just ask the guys in Sonic Youth—they'll tell you how much certain music changed their lives. They would've been just another forgettable hardcore band if Kim Gordon hadn't brought her favorite free jazz records along when she moved to NYC...
Caught two sets from (ms) and they were killer... then I hit up &td and finally made it to The Wizard of Oz, which actually blew me away for once. I figured I was just wiped out, but apparently, a few other people felt the same way...
stormyviper11 said:Matt definitely has every right to not be into The Rolling Stones and similar, but honestly, I think this whole argument is totally missing the mark.
I mentioned "modern-day Stones," and I wouldn't say I missed the point just because I asked people to stop disrespecting a seventy-year-old guy who was still killing it on stage just five years ago—someone I truly believed could still put on a killer show today. What I meant was that Lale was talking nonsense when he claimed this guy is just some relic who wrote one good tune fifty years ago. Like rustyraven43 said, the dude actually dropped an awesome record seven or eight years back, followed by a few really solid albums too...
Seriously, try finding anyone else who pulled off such a massive comeback to rock after twenty years of struggling and being homeless. The only name that comes to mind is Charles Gayle, but man, that's just straight-up free jazz.😉
In case you didn't catch my drift, I already mentioned the show sucked. The only reason I even put it together was because everyone kept telling me it’d be killer... total bust.
I don't really bother commenting on stuff like The Rolling Stones and similar bands these days since I'm just not into them, so that comparison doesn't really work...
Yeah, and Andre hasn't eaten a thing in seven days, so you definitely have to look at that when figuring out why he's acting like this... He isn't the only one who uses booze to skip meals, but my first and honestly only experience with that kind of thing was pretty great, involving William Elliot Whitmore...though he was living on whiskey and beer instead of Bacardi 😳
First off, the tickets were $18 during pre-sale, which is way cheaper than what Andre charges anywhere else in the States. It’s honestly not our fault if people missed out on those early prices... Look, for most decent shows, you're looking at paying anywhere from $25-$$15. That's just how organizers set their policy. Give us a little breathing room to charge more sometimes when production costs skyrocket, or let us have an off night with a bad concert—sometimes things happen that are totally out of our control... I've heard some of you talking about seeing Andre in a completely different light lately. Even though his behavior really messed with my head too, I still have respect for a seventy-year-old guy who's seen it all. He doesn't deserve the trash talk coming from you guys...
I'm with you on that... for some reason, Andre woke up yesterday on such a massive attitude and just stayed that way all day... Honestly, after seeing how he was acting before the show, I was actually worried he wouldn't even make it onto the stage. Man, age catches up to you and everyone’s got their own stuff going on in their heads. 🙄 It's a bummer because it felt like he was a completely different person when he was performing in Chicago...
Come on, don't take everything so literally... I was just riffing on that old American saying, "Where were you in the nineties?" 😉 What I mean is, ArcWelder makes some killer records, even if some people totally trashed them... It’s not fair, because even if they weren't groundbreaking, you can't say they were complete garbage. For those of us who caught their "Pull" release back in '93, they were just another great touch-and-go kind of band...
