Sure, joking around and hanging out is fine—whatever—but I just don't get the whole "just scraping by" attitude. The goal should be to actually learn. If you're just aiming for a passing grade while half the material goes over your head and you couldn't care less about how your hard work is being measured—or if you even want a scholarship—then what's the point? It’s honestly sad to see people who just don't care.
I mean, there was this guy in my year who actually turned down a 3 or a 4 on his neurophysiology exam, and everyone spent an entire week gossiping about him. Like, wow, imagine being that guy—everyone's acting like he's crazy because he's rejecting grades. They're all like, "What is he thinking? He wants an A?" But personally? I think it's totally fine. If you actually love a subject and want to master it, why shouldn't you turn down a mediocre grade? Sure, it probably won't change much when you're applying for a residency later, but if someone finds joy in truly knowing the material, let them have it. Personally, though, I wouldn't turn down a 3 in neurophys myself. 😁
To pass anatomy, you really have to know everything, but getting that straight A? That’s usually just luck mixed with a little finesse. Don't get me wrong, getting a good grade feels great, but what's the point if I'm going to completely forget the pathology I studied today—even if I got an A on it—within a month? At that point, it's just general knowledge. What really matters is whether you actually love this profession and how much luck you have throughout your career... because at the end of the day, those grades don't mean much. They aren't going to guarantee me my dream specialty tomorrow. That's just how it is. 🙂
