Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) in Movies ·
Solid sequel. The two and a half hours flew by. I actually enjoyed the cosmic visuals and the action sequences. The plot holds up, especially with Rocket Raccoon and his tragic backstory.

However, there are some flaws.
Adam Warlock went from being one of the most powerful beings in the comics to a complete joke—totally unnecessary at this point.
In the comics, Drax was always a bit dim, but in a charming way. He eventually evolves into this highly intelligent, lethal killer through various reincarnations. In every installment, he gets a little more foolish, but they really overdid it here. That scene with the girl and the ball wasn't funny; it was just uncomfortable. Now he's come across as downright repulsive.
And frankly, the humor is hit-or-miss in several spots.

The rest were great. Mantis is much better than she was in the previous film. Groot absolutely kills it during the action scenes. I'd give it a 4/5.

The post-credits scene wasn't worth the wait. They're just getting worse...

Word is they might keep it going as an animated series

Kevin Brooks said:You’d probably defend some piece of garbage that just wanders aimlessly around the screen for two hours—as long as you see the Marvel logo right at the start, that's all that matters to you.

True enough...

The film treats depression—a legitimate illness—as nothing more than a tired stereotype.
They’ve turned him into a complete buffoon, which is a far cry from the comics where he's actually wise and composed. He isn't just some alien; he's a God. Whether he's acting like an idiot because of the blue hair or if that's just a coincidence remains to be seen...

It’s just a dead root anyway, not a living thing... Given how many limbs Groot has lost by now, there'd probably be a whole army of tiny little Groots wandering through space...

The moment those first 15 minutes rolled by, I knew exactly what kind of ride I was in for. As for the rest... I honestly couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry. Jane Foster works well as the female Thor. Meanwhile, the male version of Thor has always been a bit of an idiot in these movies compared to the comics, but here he’s just straight-up pathetic. Christian Bale was solid, though he certainly deserved a better role. That one scene with the sword, though? Total WTF.

The script is pretty weak. The only saving grace is that the two hours flew by. It’s significantly worse than Ragnarok, but still beats The Dark World.

Budget
$1,200,000 (estimated)

Back then, this was actually decent, right? That Hickok 'psycho' had a smaller budget☕

Because Americans just thought they weren't as good as their own Westerns.

Clint Eastwood Stars
Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, Lee van Cleef

3 American actors☕

That trilogy basically just put Spaghetti Westerns on the map. And even after watching a mountain of films, none of them really hold a candle to the best. Personally, I prefer the Italian Westerns over the American ones. They have better titles, a raw atmosphere, grit, sweat, dust, violence, and the Mexican border...

It all goes back to the fact that Italians are obsessed with pasta, specifically spaghetti. In fact, that was actually used as a slur by critics toward Italian Westerns... mostly because Americans tended to view them as inferior compared to their own homegrown Westerns.

Eventually, those Spaghetti Westerns achieved legendary cult status. In Japan, they actually refer to them as Macaroni Westerns... 😁

As a fan of the original trilogy, I found this to be excellent. It’s packed with nods to the previous films, the violence is visceral, and the dark humor and horror atmosphere hit all the right marks. It actually gets better with every viewing...

I’m looking to connect with people who are hard of hearing for some correspondence. I'm interested in hearing about your personal experiences and any issues you've faced regarding discrimination. Discussions surrounding hearing loss seem to be pretty neglected lately. I'd love to hear more stories and how others navigate life with "hearing" people and the general public...

From what I can tell, paranoia used to be linked directly to schizophrenia. Nowadays, people just have too much free time and far too much imagination. Plus, life is arguably a bit too easy...

The New York Times is nothing more than yellow journalism designed to manufacture paranoia, and they certainly had a hand in fueling the COVID panic.

The history of racism is far too deep and complex to simply blame it on a few corporations.

Censorship isn't the answer, obviously, but trying to fix a warped mindset fueled by widespread illiteracy and poor education is a losing battle. It’s all just business and politics at the end of the day. Nothing is going to change.

People have become a collective hive mind of idiots, much like that unnamed politician. The harder you try to censor someone like him, the louder he gets.

The only real philosophy left is to look out for your own interests and tune out the rest of society.

William Hall61 said:Yeah, I’m on the same page. Honestly, there isn't some clear-cut signal to let you know someone has actually done the work to change. You just have to wait and see how things play out over time.

There is one dead giveaway, though, that tells me someone hasn't changed an inch—it's when they spend all their energy trying to convince you that they have.

Those are always the most entertaining ones... 😁

William Hall61 said:You start noticing you've changed over time. It happens when you realize you’re reacting to things differently than you used to, even if your default setting was always the same. People will definitely pick up on it too—whether your relationships are heading south or getting better, someone who actually gives a damn about you is going to call it out.

I can't help but wonder if what you're really asking is how you can tell when someone else has changed.🙂

Parents, friends, or maybe an ex... It’s one of those... 🕺

Is it actually possible to change? To alter our habits, our behaviors, or our fundamental flaws?

Can intensive self-work truly "eliminate" those deep-seated struggles that feel like an abyss?

Does that old saying "a leopard can't change its spots" hold any truth?

I am questioning this concept of "character." Can a shift in nature ever be proven, or is everything ultimately just *res non verba*?

It’s rare, but possible...

Habits can be broken through sheer willpower.
Behavior requires much more heavy lifting and self-awareness.
As for flaws, if they can be fixed, they will be. If not, you simply learn to live with them...

I know a former colleague who spent years being aggressive, vulgar, and constantly picking fights. He's calmer now, but I'll be blunt: he's still not someone you'd trust...

Then there are others who start out calm and somehow become emotionally immature as the years go by.

I promised my mom I'd help her carry some heavy stuff yesterday, but meanwhile, we've been dealing with a major mold issue in my room and trying to get it sorted out
He really wanted me to bail on her, but I know my mom—she’s stubborn as hell and she’ll end up lugging everything herself because she’s older now and her back is just shot
So, I told her I’d help out and be right back so we could get it all done together
But he managed to make me feel so guilty that I actually ended up leaving in tears

By the time I got back, the whole argument started up again, and I felt so helpless that I spiraled into that self-destructive headspace and ended up hurting myself...

So, yeah

Hold on a second. You were trying to help your mother, and he makes you feel guilty for it? It seems pretty obvious the problem isn't you, it's him.

If I were you, I’d give him a swift kick in the teeth and tell him to stop telling me how to live my life.

I’m all for him. 😁 It’s been a while since I sat down for one of his movies. I went through his entire filmography once, and I have to say, the man was incredibly prolific... 😍

The one thing I'm really curious about is Blade of the Immortal.
