The War of Roseov in Movies ·

So please, someone tell me—did they die?
🙂

SPOILER

Yes... Michael tries to take her hand as she's dying, but she pulls away and passes... 😁

rowdybadger41 said:But who's actually going to carry all that gear? 😳

Just find some idiot willing to carry it for you. They might even double as rations if things get desperate... 🙏 Or maybe just use them as zombie bait. 😁

It is technically possible to kill someone with a single blow if a nasal bone is driven directly into the brain. 🙏🙏

hiddensailor14 said:Well, in that case, you've probably seen Philosophy of a Knife too. I have it sitting on my shelf at home, but I haven't been able to carve out the time to sit down and watch it. Apparently, it's that same kind of pseudo-documentary, messed-up kind of thing. Is it worth committing, what, over three hours of my life to it?😕

I haven't actually seen it; I've only read about the movie. Honestly, I find it hard to believe anything could be more depraved than that movie—what was it, *Salò*? Or maybe that one where the brother and sister torture people right in front of the camera... 😁 If a movie actually holds your interest for three hours, you'll breeze through it in one sitting. If it doesn't... well, just break it up. Watch an hour today, finish the rest tomorrow, or whatever works... 🙂

Legendary. 😁 I noticed cannibal films were pretty big back then. Just stumbled upon Eaten Alive. Looks even more twisted than Cannibal Holocaust. 😁 Then again, Cannibal Ferox was just plain boring...

rustywalker42 said:It wasn't just that. The actors actually had clauses in their contracts forbidding them from appearing in public for like six months after the premiere, just to make the whole thing feel more authentic. Real commitment, right?
The director got hauled off in handcuffs, and suddenly everyone’s acting like experts just because they were facing prison time. How much of this was legit and how much was staged? I can't even remember. You can find the whole mess on Google if you actually care.

Right, right, the director was arrested, and that movie caused an absolute media firestorm. 😁 If I remember correctly, everything was eventually clarified in the supplementary material of the final cut.
But then again, that’s basically how publicity works. 🙏🙏

I watched it once back in high school; my old man happened to find the disc, I skimmed through it, trashed the CD, and threw it in the garbage...🤣🤣

I just never understood who actually plays those tribespeople in these films. They always seemed far too convincing compared to how they look in other movies...

That movie was controversial back in the day because of the animal cruelty—the turtle and those monkeys were actually killed. 🙏🙏 I personally dig how they blended a documentary style with the actual narrative, making it feel like it really happened. Some people even fell for the hoax, thinking cannibals had actually wiped out a real expedition. 😂

And you conveniently forgot to mention the penis slicing scene!

Cutting a penis? Wasn't that in Cannibal Ferox? ☕

Thanks for the heads-up. I was actually planning on picking that up since you mentioned the extended cut was superior. But, honestly, once that ice cream torture scene flashed through my mind, I was out. 😁 🤣

Eh, Hellraiser III had a truly tedious start. 😁

8. Dawn of the Dead (1978) - four people with enough ammo to take over the world, fighting away to some 70s "Starsky & Hutch" style tunes, against dangerous zombies moving at a brisk 0.1 km/h.

Yeah, I have to agree. Though there’s that Argento version where they cut out all those tedious scenes, which actually gave the movie some much-needed pace and action. 😁

Hm, Schramm, is that your way of saying it was total garbage? 😂 😂 I don't know, maybe I'll give it a look once I've seen Necromantik 2...

Oh right, and Cannibal Holocaust—another one of those tedious, dragging films. Kudos for the sick scenes, I guess, but most Italian movies back then were just plain boring.

1. "Lost in Translation" (23 percent)

I'm in complete agreement. I get that it's supposed to be "artistic," but good grief, absolutely nothing happens... 🙄

2. "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" (18 percent)

It's a silly movie, but I wouldn't call it boring. It's just enough to keep a three-year-old occupied...

3. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (14 percent)

The problem is that most Americans, with their subpar intelligence and obsession with toilet humor, simply can't grasp the nuance or the romance in this film... 😁

4. "Vanilla Sky" (13 percent)

Hmm, haven't seen it. But Tom Cruise in a drama? I'll stick with Magnolia...

5. "A Beautiful Mind" (10 percent)

Russell Crowe without the beard isn't really Russell Crowe... 😁

7. "The Remains of the Day" (eight percent)

Haven't watched it...

8. "The Black Dahlia" (seven percent)

I could barely get through the book...

9. "The Da Vinci Code" (four percent)

How can a piece of trash like that movie or book be considered boring?

10. "The English Patient" (three percent)

The book is unreadable...

I would add
1. Magnolia — honestly, making three hours of pure drama?
2. Nekromantik — necrophilia, rabbit torture, smashing cats against walls, fetishizing blood and knives... tedious...
3. Lifeforce — interesting concept, but an incredibly dull film because it's directed by Tobe Hooper, who seems to be living solely on his past glory...
4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and prequel — both are garbage, and both are boring... direction, acting, even a subpar Leatherface...
5. Audition — his worst work. Not even close to horror; it's just a slow, tedious drama...
6. Cujo — the scenes with the dog are legendary, but the beginning and certain segments are painfully slow...
7. Guinea Pig 1 and 2 — torturing a girl in various ways? I fail to see what makes that watchable...
The Wild Bunch, acting without a second thought. 😁
Cognitive Biases in Movies ·
Honestly, I don't even bother reading film reviews anymore. There isn't a decent print publication left since they axed the dedicated movie sections. Most blogs have very little substance—hardly any quality writing worth the time. And the mainstream press? It’s a disaster. Studios just recycle the same tired tropes; for instance, calling *In the Mouth of Madness* "based on Stephen King" is just sheer stupidity, considering the IMDb trivia clearly states Lovecraft was the actual inspiration. 🙄 The *New York Times* is useless now, padding articles with hundreds of filler words that have nothing to do with the movie itself. It’s an exhausting read. At this rate, you might as well call *Superman* or *Spider-Man 3* religious films... 🤣 🤣 *The Wall Street Journal* is just as bad—barely enough text there to satisfy a toddler. *USA Today* isn't any better. Take their review of *TCM Beginning*: they claim the film is garbage simply because it features blood and violence. They spend the entire piece obsessing over that, ignoring the acting, the plot, or anything else of substance. Just a repetitive loop of "it's bloody," "it's sick," "it's violent," therefore it's a bad movie.
I mostly stick to the reviews on IMDb, though even that feels unreliable lately. For example, the *King Kong* remake holds a 7.0 rating, yet it remains the most tedious, mindless piece of trash released this year. Three agonizing hours of pure boredom...

Yeah, I could have sworn Bruce Wayne was playing Batman in 😍. Then I see someone else entirely. 😢 Honestly, Liam Neeson is a solid actor, but he’s got a pretty unpleasant face. The standout scene has to be the beginning of the movie, specifically when they cut off his fingers. 🙏 🙏

Anthony Rivera12 said:Honestly, this whole thing looks pretty predictable to me—I’d bet my life savings that the plot is just going to circle back to that one kid and his girlfriend instead of actually focusing on the Autobots. It’ll probably end with some big, sweeping gesture where it turns out the Americans or that kid saved the day rather than the actual robots (typical, right? Just a bunch of clueless Americans). Look, what I actually want from a movie like this is massive robots duking it out and leveling cities—not some sentimental nonsense centered around a teenager. This film should be about the Transformers and absolutely nothing else.

Agreed. Just give us the robots. 🙏 🙏

hm, I started this series, watched the first episode, and gave up after the second. It all feels a bit ridiculous to me—from the casting choices to the devil wearing denim and long, curly hair. 🤣 🤣

casualraven said:Yeah, and that’s probably the most absurd entry in any series... even compared to Freddy's😁

Slow, dim-witted, half-naked teenagers in dark backwoods being hunted by some limping, dull-witted corpse with a sharp object over and over again... a recipe for ecstasy... OR IS IT? 🙂

Except for the first one, admittedly...

By the way, I'm male. For the five hundredth time. User profiles exist for a reason, after all.

Yes, I know, I started this. 😁 But it's all just nonsense for entertainment. 🤣 You can't expect a quality plot from a series like this—just how they managed to stretch it out. To me, the whole franchise is garbage; those crazy ideas, the ways they exploited the brand, the movie deaths, and don't even get me started on Jason. Michael Myers isn't even in his league.🙂

Does anyone really think women understand slashers any better than Paris Hilton understands algebra? 😬 😁

But I’ll give you this: the 70s and 80s were the golden era for slashers—think TCM, Nightmare on Elm Street, F13, or Halloween. Those films actually relied on unwritten rules, great scores, shock value, tension, and a real concept. 🙏 🙏 Nowadays, everything just leans on excessive gore, sex, and mindless violence, like those idiot movies Hostel or House of Wax. 👎 Currently, I'm working my way through the entire Friday the 13th series—just hit the seventh installment. 🙏 🙏
