That’s how people used to address me at first, too. But once that absolute disaster of a movie came out, things shifted. Still, I have zero patience for those who don't watch films and insist on assuming I'm female... 😈

Jerry Martin19 said:Honestly, I haven't seen Magnolia—I'm embarrassed to admit it, but everyone keeps recommending it.

No, you absolutely have to watch it. It’s pure cinematic bliss, and the opening sequence is masterful. 😁 Plus, Tom Cruise playing a seductive guru? One of the top 50 movie villains...

I don't see the issue with Tom & Nicole. It’s easily one of their best pairings—especially Kidman. Cruise might only top it with "Rain Man" or maybe "Money Color."

Jerry Morales78, thanks for the backup...

And everyone just conveniently forgets about "Magnolia," I suppose?

I didn't restart the argument once I posted my piece... 🙂

Chris Morgan67 said:The main issue for me in that movie is how obnoxious and grating Tom Hanks and Nicole Kidman are.

Purely nauseating...

Agreed.

Jerry Morales78 said:If that movie isn't controversial, then nothing else is. Clearly, you're easily swayed by low-brow cinema. As far as quality goes, it might actually be Kubrick's finest work. It’s layered, subtly brutal, and carries those Kafkaesque undertones throughout the narrative.

Sure, but the man gives us The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove—all absolute masterpieces—and then, right before he passes, he delivers this drama about a man whose wife can't satisfy him, yet he keeps coming back, and she eventually settles for him. If she had any sense, she would have walked away just like he did...

Yeah, they touched on that in the new Batman movie, but so far, there's still no clarity regarding the others, or even most superheroes in general.

Sure, but what about Superman? Can he even take that suit off? He's always seen in it, and whenever someone needs saving, he just strips down and pops into the costume. I assume he probably sleeps in it, too.😁 😂

wearygardener13 said:Yeah, I’m watching Silent Hill right now, and of course, this massive tank of a car just refuses to start...😂

I can't remember if I've brought this up in this thread yet, but I find it hilarious how in superhero movies, nobody recognizes them, despite them having custom-tailored outfits, signature cars, and everything else...😂

Does Batman just sit there sewing his own little costumes and building his own rides?😕

Exactly, I've wondered the same thing. If I recall correctly, Spider-Man sews his own suits. As for Batman, maybe it's his butler, though I doubt it. I think they mentioned they might explain it in the next sequel.

And that bit about Superman? He just puts on some glasses and suddenly he's unrecognizable. Pure genius. 😂 😂

The atmosphere is solid, even terrifying (partly thanks to the score). There's no point overanalyzing it—everyone has their own take on cinema and there will always be people who didn't care for this one, and apparently you're one of them.

Precisely. Discussion closed. 🙂

Jerry Martin19 said:I've mostly agreed with your picks regarding actors, directors, and films listed under the name Constantine, but I just can't get behind this one.
It’s fine if you don't like the movie, or find it boring (taste is subjective), or simply have no desire to watch it again, but unlike a Kubrick film, this definitely isn't trash.
Best regards,

Then tell me, what is actually good about this film? A wife can't satisfy her husband, so he has to traverse the entire city just to find some excitement? And then, once he finally reaches the debauchery, he can't even join in... 👎 I've found his other films tedious due to the slow pacing, but they appealed to me. This one lacks any controversy, lacks everything... It’s as if Gus Van Sant directed it while under the influence of Jerry...

Jerry Martin19 said:Point one: The title is Eyes Wide Shut.
Point two: The movie is excellent. It’s on par with Stanley Kubrick, maybe even better than A Clockwork Orange. You can really feel that signature Kubrick atmosphere. For me, it was a brilliant experience.
Advice—watch it again.

1. Fair enough, I missed the mark there.
2.For me, it wasn't. It was incredibly dull, featuring a nonsensical plot, tedious pacing, a stupid ending, and a censored orgy scene with zero actual sex...
3.It won't happen again; once was plenty.
4.A Clockwork Orange is a hundred times better than this trash.

@Chris Morgan67 & crimsonmoose3 - even if 'Eyes Wide Shut' were a bad movie—and it isn't, just a bit weaker than Kubrick's other work—I still don't see how one single film can 'ruin' someone...

How can it not? If a man spends his entire career making masterpieces, only to drop a total disaster as his final act before passing away...

casting the lead role in Titanic to Leonardo DiCaprio—who at the time was basically a tiny, hysterical kid—🙂
and then pairing him up with Kate Winslet...🙂
I have no idea who lost their mind at the studio level, whether it was Cameron or the producers.

And in your opinion, who would have been better? Maybe Leslie Nielsen paired with that actress from Mission: Impossible? 😬

I'd take Charlie Sheen over Mickey Rourke any day. 😬 At least Charlie didn't bite his own tongue off in a boxing ring like Rourke did. 🤣

The main thing is to include as many traps like the ones from the first movie as possible. The second one was pretty much a disaster because there was only one actual trap. I'm not even counting the stuff in the house.
