Okay, so this definitely works—I managed to grab all 5—but there are a few issues.
The estimated time to recover everything shot up to over 200 hours after just 15 minutes of scanning, and that wasn't even 10% of the drive. Another thing is that the recovered files don't have their original names, dates, or anything. That’s basically useless to me since I have tens of thousands of photos; I could NEVER organize them without the original timestamps or filenames... I have a backup of those pictures, but I'm not totally sure if everything actually made it. If I had the names and folders, I could at least check and get everything sorted properly.
So yeah, this isn't really helping me much because those hundred or so files that popped up in that first 15 minutes looked like total junk. It was just every possible type of random file, and among the photos, there was a ton of cache stuff (like YouTube thumbnails?) which I don't need at all.
Plus, I have thousands of Adobe Acrobat, IND, and ILL files I want to check to see if they're backed up, along with all my old work docs and faxed files... going through them one by one would take forever.
Uh, all in all, thanks for the options, but unless I totally botched the process, this isn't doing the trick for me.😵
Thanks for the replies. Honestly, I’m pretty sure I’m nowhere near experienced enough to pull this off on my own without messing it up. I wasn't planning on sinking too much cash into this drive anyway—the enclosure ended up costing me way more than I expected, plus the service fees... If I decide to just bite the bullet and scrap the data, can I assume it'll work fine if I just convert everything through Disk Management?
So, I pulled a hard drive out of a dead desktop and grabbed one of those external enclosures to use it as an external drive—or at least to try and rescue some files. But when I plug it into my laptop, nothing shows up. Nothing.
It shows up in Disk Management, but it says it's Invalid. I could convert it to Microsoft, but that would wipe my data—and I'm definitely not doing that. So, when I pull up that command prompt window and start typing stuff like diskpart and then list disk, it shows the drive is Online, but it’s still flagging it as Invalid. I guess.
It feels like Google barely offers any actual software to fix stuff anymore; most of what you find just wants your credit card immediately. I ended up downloading EaseUS Partition Master, but it’s pretty much useless since it says the disk is Offline and won't let me do anything—probably because it's just a trial version. It also shows up as Unlocated, claiming there's 1TB of free space available. I really hope that’s not actually true, because that drive is supposed to be completely full.
The drivers are updated for the drive, or so the computer says. I had Windows 10 installed on both my desktop and my laptop, and I even tried a different laptop running Windows 7, but no luck there either. I hear that Bing notification sound and the pop-up says it's ready to go, but nothing actually shows up.
Is there any way I can pull this off myself without some repair guy messing things up and wiping everything on that hard drive?

Go with an RX550 or a GT 1030. The first one's a bit stronger, but honestly, both are pretty weak. They'll definitely run The Sims 4, but the RX550 is decent enough, maybe similar to what was recommended earlier, while the GT 1030 is a step down.
Ideally, you’d grab a used RX460—kind of like an RX 560, which is better than those two new ones—for maybe around $250.
With new cards, obviously the upside is you get a warranty, and if you buy online, you can just return it if things go sideways.
But for $100, you're getting way better performance used for about $50-$$233 compared to new, since entry-level cards are just overpriced.
Thanks for the info. My issue with used stuff is that I don't know how to build a PC myself, and if something breaks, I wouldn't have a clue what to do—kind of like what happened to that guy in the comment above. Anyway, I'll think about what I want to spend and figure out how I'd handle it if I decide to go the used route.
Hey, I could really use some help picking out a new graphics card. I'm specifically looking to play The Sims 4, and honestly, I've fallen head over heels for them, but right now the resolution looks like I'm playing The Sims 1 currently. Right now I'm stuck with integrated graphics: GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a
According to their official website, it says Minimum: VIDEO: 128 MB of Video RAM and support for pixel shader 3.0. Supported video Cards: Nvidia GeForce 6600 or Better, ATI Radeon X1300 or Better, Intel GMA X4500 or Better a
But then I was Googling around and found this: Recommended: Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 or Better
Everything else seems fine, I've put over 300 hours into the game and the resolution is pretty much my only issue, so I'd love to fix that.
I'd prefer buying something new rather than used, and I'm willing to drop about $233 on it, though if I don't actually need to spend that much, even better. Or if I should be saving up for something more expensive...

Oh man, thanks so much, that actually fixed it! The resolution is fine now and the picture looks great. Chrome still has some Blurry text, but I guess I can live with that for now. The only thing is, it feels like there are these super faint, almost invisible "waves" moving across the screen. I don't know how else to describe it or show it, they just pop in and out sometimes 🤔
Anyway, this was exactly what I needed, so thanks a ton 🙏🙏
edit: reinstalled Chrome and now it's crystal clear 🙂

No dedicated card here, it's just the integrated one on the board. That's what you mean, right? 🤷 The motherboard is an ASRock AM3+ N68-GS4 USB 3.0 (that's what my receipt shows, nothing else was listed).
I just got my computer back from the repair shop after they swapped out the motherboard. They reinstalled Windows 10 and all my old software, and the machine runs fine, but there's a major Screen Resolution problem. It won't match my monitor at all.
My monitor is supposed to be 1920 x 1080, but the closest option I can find in the settings is 1400 x 1050. Everything looks stretched out on the screen, and the text is super Blurry.
Look, I’m definitely not a tech genius, but I spent way too many hours yesterday and today Googling stuff and trying random fixes.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far: -Checking for any new Windows updates, -Updating drivers (everything says it's up to date), and even hunting for older versions, but nothing worked. -Messing around with different resolutions and scaling options. -Manually tweaking the physical monitor settings. -I toggled the setting "Let Windows try to fix apps so they are not blurry," but that did nothing. -Running driver checkers like Driver Easy—everything came back clean. -Trying to grab alternative drivers from the Dell site, but it won't let me install them because it claims they aren't compatible with the monitor.
Just for context, the monitor is a Dell SE2717H / HX computer. The PC doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, and I honestly never had these issues before; I've owned this thing for years.
Could this be related to the new motherboard? Or maybe the Windows 10 reinstall? Any idea how I can actually fix this?

Marvel Studios isn't connected to Venom. Marvel is credited because it's based on their comics, but there's zero confirmation that it shares a universe with the MCU films.
It won't happen in a month, for sure.. and if I end up in a new relationship, I guess I'll need some time before things get to that point where it's actually time for something like that, then maybe it'll be better to quit drinking..

Lots of plot holes and weird logic gaps, so is it any good? Not really. Is it fun? Just read the instructions on your pill pack—they always list which side effects mean you should stop taking them and see a professional immediately. I guess some mood swings are considered "normal," but clearly this isn't working for you. If your body is reacting this intensely, it’s probably not the right fit, and there's no point in poisoning yourself. Go see a specialist and tell them exactly what happened. We aren't doctors here.
