Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Susan Edwards8 said:Seriously, you must have been seeing my therapist every single day back when you were mixing Effexor and Paxil🤣.
Personally, I felt totally fine mentally on the Effexor, but man, those side effects🙄... And with the Paxil, I was basically a zombie at first, just completely wiped out, but things are finally leveling out. For me, it actually worked the opposite way people say—since I started taking it, my emotions actually feel alive again rather than numb😍. The only thing is, I’m putting on weight like crazy, and now I'm sitting here wondering if it's the meds or if I'm just eating too much🤷.
Has anyone else been on this stuff for the long haul? I've been taking it for about four and a half months now.

I was on Paxil for about 9 months and let me tell you, all 9 of those months were absolute hell🙄

Is there actually an antidepressant out there that won't turn you into a total zombie with zero emotions? Paxil just didn't work for me at all, and I wouldn't touch Blonidine again if my life depended on it.
With the Paxil, I was crashing by 9 PM every night and waking up around 8 AM, which is honestly useless for my schedule now. But the worst part was the numbness—no happiness, no sadness, no joy. I wasn't even feeling down or up; I was just... nothing. Just totally blank. Once I finally got off it, I felt like myself again. But now that winter is rolling in, those old demons are resurfacing along with some new bullshit (honestly, there isn't a better way to put it), and I’m starting to think I might need to try therapy or meds again. So, I'd love to hear what you guys have dealt with.

Thanks in advance 🙏
Getting a mammogram at a younger age? in Women's Health ·
For younger women, doctors usually stick to ultrasound for breast exams
Birthday, right? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
John Palmer4 said:We just had a little private blowout at the Marriott for the mods and admins. It was alright (food, drinks, girls, you know the drill...) but I probably shouldn't get too specific. There might be some kind of press release on CNN soon. 👍

They even handed out moderator bonuses for banning people and scrubbing posts. 👍

So that's why some of the mods have been acting totally unhinged lately.🤣🤣

Anyway, happy birthday, I guess... 🤷

Brian Kern40 said:Last time, I was given Ibuprofen packets and Spasmex. Honestly? They didn't do a damn thing. I couldn't even make it to my classes at the university, and I can't afford to miss more since I’m only allowed one absence from my labs. It hurt so badly this time that I actually cried; just thinking about the pain right now makes me want to tear up again. I tried everything—heating pads, chamomile tea, curling up in the fetal position, stomach massages—I don't even know what else there is to try. This time around, I'm cutting out coffee and sweets, and I might try exercising, though I’m terrified it won't make any difference. Quick question: if I need testing for birth control pills, do I have to see both my primary doctor and a gynecologist, or can my GP just write the referral? Also, now that I'm over 18, where am I supposed to go for a checkup? When I was younger, I used to go to the clinic on 5th Avenue.

You get the prescription for the pills from the OB-GYN, so there's no need to bother your regular doctor separately. 🙂
Snowy joys (or nightmares) in Miscellaneous ·
It’s not just happening in NYC, either. Out where I am (about an hour's drive from Philly), the snow started coming down right around this time yesterday, and the plow has only made one pass since then—one single trip in about 15 hours. And that’s not even covering all the streets.

But hey, as long as they can get some news crew out there to film how "ready" the plows are and how they’re just sitting there waiting for the signal, 🙄it’s all good, right?
I’ve got gastritis, but I’m not actually on any meds for it right now. The gastritis itself doesn't really bother me when I take pills, but as for whether they'll mess with whatever therapy you're on... honestly, your OB-GYN or primary care doctor is the only one who can give you a straight answer on that.🙂
Who are the everyday people? in Miscellaneous ·
I used to have this friend (thank God she's in the past tense) who was hands down the most boring human being on the planet. It’s exactly what you’re talking about—she was nice, she was sweet, she had all the right qualities, but everything about her was just... meh.

Whenever we hung out, I felt like a quick hour-long coffee date would somehow stretch into three hours of unpaid psychotherapy because I was doing all the heavy lifting. When she actually did talk, it was always about college. I mean, sure, we were students (well, I am anymore, but whatever), but come on—does she really have nothing else going on in her life?

You’ve also got those plant-based supplements that can really help you lock in and focus.

If you aren't actually dealing with any symptoms, what's even the point of taking that medication?
Late puberty: Any advice? in Health ·
I went to high school with a few guys who fit that exact description, and honestly, they were totally fine. They didn't skip puberty or anything; they just hit a slower development phase. It’s kind of like how not every girl has wide hips or a certain build—it's basic biology stuff you learn back in middle school.

It's possible there's an underlying medical issue, but it's also entirely possible he's just naturally built "slight." Seriously, look around—he’s definitely not the only guy out there standing 5'5" or rocking skinny arms without much muscle definition.🙂

He should probably get some hormone tests done just to see what actually stalled his growth.

So, this guy used to train his dogs—mentioning some buddies he knew, too—by basically dunking their heads into a tub of ice water for ten seconds whenever they wouldn't listen. He claims after a few sessions like that, the dog becomes perfectly obedient. Just follows every single command. So, what, we aren't allowed to call that animal abuse now?
Same goes for electricity. I don't see any difference.
Whether he’s certified or not, it doesn't matter.

And yeah, the moderators also shut down threads about breeding unspayed or unneutered pets (someone was complaining about that recently), and they wipe out any posts promoting tail or ear cropping... honestly, it’s not like you got banned for a month right after your first post; you just got a warning after your fourth. Whatever, you're basically just running an ad for the guy.
I guess it’s a good sign if their profile shows they were online today.
hiddenwalker30 said:Most of the time, I just talk about everything that’s been weighing on me since my last session, while she stays almost entirely silent—offering nothing more than an occasional "hmm" or "mm-hmm." 🙄

I go there expecting her to help me uncover the root of my issues and why these fears exist in the first place, rather than being sent home just because I mention I'm having a decent day. One session even ended after a mere 15 minutes. 🙄

If you didn't mention it was a woman, I would've assumed you were seeing my old psychiatrist. 🤣

The thing is, he was also a total master at jumping from topic to topic. We never actually tackled any real issues. It wasn't until the very last session—when I made it crystal clear that I was done and just coming in to say goodbye—that he finally started asking actual, detailed questions. Back then, I had just gone through a breakup, so it felt more natural. Before that? If I’d mention I was feeling down or pissed off because I got into it with a friend or a parent, he’d just be like, "Okayyyyy, so how was your semester at NYU?" And then we'd just chat about how boring campus life is until twenty minutes later when I’d leave. He’d just stop asking questions, and I’d run out of things to say because I’d already tried bringing up the fight three different times, but he’d dodge the subject every single time. Not subtle at all. 😬

brisknomad6 said:Nah, I don't think that's really how it works. Even over here in the States, police and military K9 units are moving toward positive reinforcement methods. I mean, if some trainers around here are still stuck in the dark ages with old-school techniques, that’s a whole different conversation entirely. There was actually a bunch of stuff written about this on KLj, so if you're curious, maybe go check it out there.

Look, a dog isn't some sentient being that signed a contract to become a service animal just to get treated like garbage. Soldiers go into their training with eyes wide open; they’re intelligent enough to choose the grind and push through it, and honestly, props to them for that. But a dog doesn't have a choice. Using shock collars or any kind of electric training? That’s straight-up abuse.

So, brisknomad6 laid it out clearly: there are better, more humane ways to do this. If someone intentionally chooses to use electric collars, calling them an abuser is a bit ☕
plus, they're actually making money off it, too. 🙂

The same thing caught my eye, though what really rubbed me the wrong way was that "with the owner's consent" part. Honestly, everyone involved is just as much to blame here—it's not just on the trainer. 😢

Maria Kern4 said:Please, for the love of everything—do not overdo it with the Ibuprofen.. I was popping those every single month because my periods were absolutely excruciating, and look where it got me—I ended up with gastritis and stomach bleeding.. My next cycle should start in five days and I’m already spiraling into a panic because I have no idea what I'm going to do when I'm strictly forbidden from taking any more painkillers😢

A friend of mine deals with some nasty stomach issues (not 100% sure on the diagnosis), plus she gets killer headaches and monthly cramps. Her doctor actually suggested switching to these granulated tablets. I’d never even heard of them before, but she’s been using them for a while and swears they help without wrecking her stomach. Might be worth looking into. 🙂

I don't think there are any pills out there that are totally free, but Lindynette is $10, since the Social Security Administration covers half because the full price is like 60 bucks and change

Look, let’s just use "Dr. PhD" or whatever fancy title we need to get on the same page here regarding which dosage works for what. And no, I wasn't being sarcastic—I genuinely have no clue.

My post was basically a response to that whole "women, please educate yourselves" crowd. Because apparently, if my OB-GYN gave me bad info, that's entirely on me. Personally, I trust Google about as much as I trust the old lady across the street who swears my iron levels will skyrocket if I turn my house key three times left and three times right every single morning.

Alright, I'm about to go pick up a copy of 'Medicine for Dummies,' because honestly, I have zero clue what any of these medical terms mean, and clearly, I can't expect my OB-GYN to explain it all in plain English. ☕
