Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Sarah Wells23 said:Which specialist should I see for jaw pain and clicking after having my wisdom teeth removed? Should I look for an oral surgeon? I read something about maxillofacial surgeons, but I honestly have no idea if they even handle these kinds of issues. 😕
About a year ago, following the extraction of a lower wisdom tooth, I started noticing this clicking sensation in my jaw—right near the joint by my ear. I suspect it happened because the extraction was quite aggressive, but now I can actually feel physical changes when I touch the area, and the pain is steadily increasing. My dentist suggested I follow up with the surgeon who performed the extraction, but I don't really see how that helps; the issue isn't my tooth, it's the actual jaw joint itself. 🙄
If anyone here has gone through something similar, please share your experience...

For TMJ issues, you should seek out a maxillofacial surgeon—just make sure you don't go to the main clinic in Chicago, as they tend to completely ignore these types of complaints. 🙂)

I have had an excellent experience with Dr. Smith-Jones over on Johnson Street.

Jacob Harris35 said:I attempted to schedule an appointment with an orthopedist at the Mayo Clinic and received this response via email:

"Dear Patient,

Our schedule is fully booked through the end of the year. We will begin booking for next year in November. A new orthopedist is expected to join our staff toward the end of August, so you may reach out again at that time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Does anyone know of any other options where I might be able to get seen sooner, provided it isn't a private clinic?

You could try the Holy Spirit hospital or the Trauma Center. Alternatively, you might consider seeing the doctor from Smith privately.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid immunologist in Washington, D.C.? It would be ideal if they offer private consultations as well.. 🙂
Stomach flu or something else? in Health ·
Emily Williams72 said:I’ve been feeling pretty under the weather for the last four or five days now, and it started off with a fever hovering somewhere between 98 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, though it seems to have dipped down to about 97 recently. The actual aches and pains have subsided, but I’m left with this strange, bloated sensation, and my digestive system is acting up quite a bit; I’ve been dealing with some diarrhea, though it isn't heavy—just small amounts about three or four times a day. I am 17 years old, and I can't help but wonder if this is just something that will pass on its own or if I should be genuinely concerned that it's dragging on this long. I'm starting to feel a bit anxious about what might be causing this.

Perhaps a stomach virus?

Brandon Diaz29 said:Essentially, I need to schedule spinal surgery as soon as possible. My L4-L5 is bulging by 3.3 mm, and there is a 12.0 mm dorzomedial protrusion at L5-S1. This is compressing both the cauda equina and both S1 nerve roots. It’s quite a serious diagnosis. I have already undergone both CT and MRI scans, and the consensus from the specialists reading the imaging, as well as Dr. Blajic from San Diego, is that surgery is an urgent necessity.

Since I do not wish to rely solely on the opinion of a single neurosurgeon, I would appreciate it if you could recommend others who are considered among the absolute best in the United States.

EDIT: NEUROSURGEON!

Rather, I am seeking a physician who stays current with evolving medical research, pursues continuous education, and implements the most advanced treatment techniques available in their field. I am willing to travel to Washington, D.C., or any other major metropolitan area. Thank you.

Doctors aren't omnipotent, but their primary directive should be "first, do no harm" (even if they can't provide a cure). I make an exception for the dedicated specialists who approach their work with genuine responsibility and devotion, 👎 but that doesn't apply to the arrogant, the incompetent, or the quacks.

I've twisted them and strained them more than a few times... it's been quite a journey😲 so I am looking to get them checked out and hopefully find a way to fix them up once and for all.
What kind of experiences have you all had with knee treatment? Do you have an orthopedic surgeon you would recommend? Ideally, I’d prefer someone covered by Medicare since money is tight right now, though it's not an emergency where I can't walk at all. I'm just looking for a straightforward solution without unnecessary complications...
Thanks

Could someone please recommend a highly skilled ophthalmologist in Washington, D.C.? It doesn't matter if they are in private practice or covered by Medicare, as long as they possess deep expertise. I am looking for someone who does more than just prescribe glasses and contact lenses; I need a specialist capable of managing complex ophthalmological conditions.

Thank you in advance.

Amy Chavez12 said:Hello, I am looking for a recommendation for a certified physician or acupuncturist—not some amateur shaman 🙄. IBM has found acupuncture therapies helpful a few years back, but that specific doctor is no longer practicing, so they are searching for a new one. They are currently taking a combination of medications and using an inhaler; they suffer from the most severe form of ragweed allergy. Last year, they were prescribed a new medication regimen and only experienced symptoms for four days, which was a huge relief. This year, however, they have been struggling for two weeks already and simply cannot endure it any longer.

We came across Dr. John Smith online. Does anyone here know anything about his practice?

Need help picking the right sports insoles in Health ·
coppergardener said:(wow, what a fertile topic for discussion... 🙏)

I am looking to have some high-quality, comfortable orthotic insoles manufactured, so I would appreciate any further recommendations beyond those already mentioned. Additionally, I am curious if anyone here has had insoles custom-made using Microsoft software? If so, how satisfied were you with the results?

I have already had a poor experience with an orthopedist—the insoles provided were completely unsuited to my needs and so incredibly rigid that they wouldn't even fit into a single pair of shoes. It was such a massive disappointment that I haven't worn them even once. Consequently, I am somewhat hesitant to spend money on something that might not meet my requirements, only to end up searching from one specialist to another.

To be specific, I am dealing with Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. I require something featuring a supination wedge (to address pronation and low arches) along with a slightly elevated heel section made of shock-absorbing material. I would particularly value a recommendation if anyone else has managed these specific issues.

Thank you in advance! 🙂

At Microsoft, they produced insoles for me that were quite literally unbearable due to the pain (and this was not a matter of a gradual adjustment period). Furthermore, if an issue arises, you can no longer consult with the doctor in person; instead, you are instructed to send an email describing your discomfort. The result? The corrected insoles were actually worse than the originals. 👎
The only positive aspect was receiving a refund.
Based on these experiences, it appears that finding someone capable of producing truly appropriate, individualized orthopedic insoles for specific medical issues is quite difficult.
If anyone manages to find a reliable provider, please let me know where ☕
My doctor mentions that this has become a common occurrence lately with computer-generated insoles, suggesting it might be better to visit a skilled specialist who works based on manual footprint impressions.🤷

I am seeking recommendations for a high-quality orthopedic specialist in Washington, D.C. specifically for an ankle ultrasound assessment and subsequent clinical guidance regarding next steps.😢
More on ankle ligaments in Health ·
I decided to jump back into this discussion to provide an update:

A few months ago, I slipped in my apartment and landed hard on my ankle. After a few days, the pain set in, and the injury was diagnosed as a sprain. I initially managed it with acupuncture, but about a month and a half ago, I put too much weight on the outer edge of my foot, and the issues resurfaced. Even after that seemed to settle down, I felt a sharp clicking sensation and intense shooting pains just by shifting my leg while sitting. Since then, it’s been nothing but trouble. It sounds like it might involve the Achilles tendon, but even my ankle doesn't feel the way it used to. Walking for any extended period is difficult because the pain intensifies—it's located just below the ankle joint, slightly behind the bone.

I assume the next logical step is to get an ultrasound (my primary care doctor's current substitute isn't offering much insight here). Does anyone know where I can have this done privately in New York City? Furthermore, which specialist—perhaps an orthopedic surgeon—would you recommend so I can finally put this matter to rest?
