It’s a bummer that it falls on a Friday😬

If they were the real deal, they’d actually sound like it😉

Aren't you in Washington, D.C. this Friday?😳

Bumping this 😳

Hellsonic will be playing until midnight

If you haven't caught them yet, you're missing out. Think trash rockabilly—somewhere between The Cramps and the Sting Rays. Or, if you want an analogy, it’s how hot Boogie Chillun trebati actually sound 😉.

''NERO BURNS
Nero BURNS Guitalist Nero BURNS (formerly of the techno punk outfit f f deluxe) teamed up with a Filipino bassist, Honey RENO, and drummer Paco Loco to start this group. They cook up their own gritty brand of Trash rockabilly.''

Some of you might have already caught them live at the garage Spring roll this year...

There might be another band opening for them. I'll let you know when I hear something. See ya 😘

Dollsi? 😲

Play 'Dr. Dre'! 🙂

I mean, 'Trash' 😳

Fair enough... so it wasn't a suicide attempt like I first thought.

Haha, how confused were the rest of you when she tried to carry you on her back?
She does that... always right after she's had a few drinks. For some reason that just makes zero sense to me. 🤔
Everything was going great for me. And thanks for those compliments earlier. But I guess things got a bit messy... looks like I have some gaps in my memory...

Man, that "performance" backstage 🙈

And what kind of venue are we talking about for the final show ever? Are you planning to bring out all the old members for one last goodbye, maybe even getting Victor back on the drums? 😬

Yeah... everyone will be there. 👍
Anyway, let's not get ahead of ourselves and start trolling. 🙂
Robin Rodriguez5 said:Coachella and Horizon are happening on the exact same day at Aquarius 😬

It was supposed to be the final show from The Babies ever, but now they're definitely moving it to the second day... 😎

hollowseal33 said:Now, if we look at this through the lens of performance, we’re opening up a whole different story—maybe even a Pandora's box. You have performers who don't even write their own material, succeeding purely because of their stage presence or how they market themselves. Take a band like Weezer, for example; their music can feel like a total copy-paste job 😁, but they have a style that just gets under your skin 😁. Then you have someone like Bob Dylan, whom most people can't stand, or better yet, 😍—someone like Iron & Wine, who I’d give anything to see live, yet he still commands a decent following. All of them possess a style that isn't something you just listen to with your ears.

If we're talking about whether a sound fits a genre, what pedals a guitarist uses, or if a track runs longer than three minutes, then yeah, those are just technicalities. A talented person is going to write great music whether they grew up on the Mississippi coast or spent their youth listening to the Ramones.

No, I think we're missing each other. Are you talking about style as in looks, image, or something like that?
I'm talking about musical style. The kind of style you actually HEAR. It's not just about guitar pedals or song length. It’s something almost untouchable and impossible to describe. It’s shaped by everything you listened to growing up, the things you ponder, what drives you to write, and what sets you apart. Those aren't mere technicalities; that's the core of the matter.
Once you grasp the idea behind all of that, you gain extra layers to how you listen. It can be incredibly exciting and inspiring. Is that not important to you?

And yeah... The Stranglers are absolute garbage.

True. But only in our little post-war town.

Hold on... don't get me wrong. They're the only band I listen to with a punk r'n'r vibe.

gentlepuma20 said:obviously not. but I don't want to be so strict with myself that I miss out on enjoying some mindless music once in a while.

That's where we differ. Honestly, I envy you sometimes. As for the whole generational gap thing, most of the time, you know how it goes... I definitely click better with the younger crowd. Probably because they haven't been jaded yet.

gentlepuma20 said:Yeah, but it feels kind of stupid to try and make talking about music sound intellectual.🙂

Can you elaborate? Does that mean I'm not allowed to like Beyoncé?😬

By the way, regarding this whole "past generations were cooler" thing—I don't buy it. We've argued this a thousand times, and clearly, you can't fight nostalgia with logic. So fine, have it your way. You guys were better.😛

I get it, that argument is totally played out. This isn't even about nostalgia. It’s about right now. The people actually trying to build a scene, or who already have, are mostly from that older crowd. From Matt, Six, and Cornelius all the way down to DJ Hellsonik. In my own messy career, 90% of my work was dealing with promoters in their 30s. Most of them have checked out, leaving a massive void. I could look even further back to the late 80s when everything was exploding without the internet or government grants. Imagine trying to book an opening slot via fax and long-distance calls from a payphone... or doing research without Google. It's the same with bands, at least the ones I follow. I'm thinking about putting together a small garage rock/punk fest at Spunk in late March, and the only promising young band I could find in the US that fits the vibe is Bud Spencer. Just one. We are missing young bands that actually get the spirit. I wouldn't be complaining if there wasn't a thriving scene in places like Austria. Over there, the 18-to-23-year-olds are the ones organizing, playing, and showing up. Again, that's just my personal taste.

Beyoncé? I mean, sure... would you drop $150 on one of her CDs? Or fly to the US just to catch a show? Yeah, you like her, and that's fine, but you probably don't take her seriously.😳

I disagree. He plays 'for Eliza' whenever he feels like it.

hollowseal33 said:you should know that intelligence isn't the same thing as being smart🙂 i don't think music needs to sound "smart." Okay, maybe I used the word intelligence wrong; what I really meant was talent... having those mental gears aligned so you can see a melody in nothing and actually express it🙂

So, does that mean the benchmark for good music is just the talent behind it?😕

Expressing a melody isn't about talent—it's about style. At least when we're talking about pop music. And to have style, you need awareness. In my eyes, the most talented musician in mainstream genres is someone like Mr. Huljić. But he has zero style... no awareness... he’s just a hack. Sure, you can respect the money he's made (if money is what impresses you)

I hate bringing this up because I don't want to be that guy, but... there's a clear generational gap here. It comes down to how "serious" versus how "fun" you take music. My perspective isn't better or "smarter," it's just fundamentally different from yours. It's that postmodernist mindset that (in my opinion) erodes everything today... the idea that "it's all good because... I don't know... it makes people happy." Basically, don't dig deep and don't overthink it. Honestly, that attitude is healthier and closer to human nature, but it has one fatal flaw: you can't build anything from it. You can't create. You undermine every criterion except "it feels good to me." You aren't disciplined. Plus, that mindset leaves you wide open to pure consumerism.
I don't want to kill the vibe here with my overly intense views, but seriously, can you imagine a time when people would actually fight over music? Yeah, it sounds idiotic now... but they cared more somehow.

Kevin Chavez3 said:Oh, I just noticed people are actually trying to claim I don't have genuine respect for Iron Maiden and the Sugababes. 😲 You can't be serious if you think you know me well enough to believe I’m listening to Maiden with a sense of irony. 🙂

Look, you don't actually know that yet either. Just admit it to yourself. Let it out. We’re your friends—we aren't here to hurt you. 😍

Talk about some psychoanalysis right in the middle of kopito, haha.
