ironcobra13 said:It isn't about which specific word you use—even back home in Canada, we didn't use terms like "fork" or "carrot," yet I always knew exactly what they meant. We don't use certain regional slang or specific old-fashioned names for months either, but the meaning remains clear.
It really just comes down to how much people actually interact and socialize.

Those rural areas are losing their populations—everyone is migrating West—and when people emigrate, language often dies out in the process...

Kids today will likely master "fork" and "carrot" long before they ever bother with the local equivalents...
To a kid, certain traditional words might even sound funny or outdated—sort of like how some regional dialects sound to outsiders—so they’ll naturally gravitate toward the modern ones.

There used to be a sense of local pride tied to the language.
Now? It’s mostly just indifference—times have changed.

In a hundred years, it's anyone's guess what will even be left of the language at all.
ironcobra13 said:— I once met someone from a small town in Ohio who didn't even know what a spoon and fork were.
And I had an interaction with a cashier who had no idea what a plastic bag was.😲

The newer generations—they’re going to know less and less about these basic things.
It’s not just my opinion, unfortunately. 😁
ironcobra13 said:Anthony Nguyen81 and I have both been corrected by Americans over terms like "soup," "spoon," or "bag."
But honestly—I’ve always just ignored those corrections. I stick to my guns with "soup," "bag," "spoon," "fork," and all the rest of those expressions.
It’s funny—just as people from the South might argue about what constitutes a real biscuit, you have Americans nitpicking over whether it's called soup or something else.

Of course, these linguistic nuances 😁
ironcobra13 said:Anthony Nguyen81, this is actually the first time I’ve heard anyone suggest that in America "burek" implies a cheese filling.
That sounds like a brand new concept to me.

Actually, no—in Chicago, it’s always been that way. 😁

And for the rest of the country, at least from what I’ve gathered. 😬

It can be a bit funny sometimes—those awkward moments when someone with roots in Canada tries to correct people, only to have their input brushed off by the locals just to maintain social etiquette or avoid a debate. 😁

It’s basically a cheese pie—loaded with apples, walnuts, and poppy seeds 😵

The king of pastries! ☕

Pastry 😁

Just a pie 😬
Lawrence Booth2 said:it's actually a cheese pie

In Canada, maybe...
But in Rhode Island, burek is 😁
ironcobra13 said:So, what's the actual question here?
To me, it looks like you’re just playing word games.
A baklava is a baklava.
Meat pie is meat pie. This is an American forum—end of story.
There is zero reason to give baklava a new name when nobody has ever questioned its identity.
The only real debate is whether you specify "meat pie" or just call it "pie."

In Rhode Island, if someone just says "pie," they usually assume it's cheese pie, not meat. 😁

I have a sweet tooth 🕺
Actually, baklava is a bit different from what you might expect.
From the way it's sliced onwards,

But then you have things like apple pie or cherry turnovers.😍

I still have both Jupiter and Saturn sitting in my Virgo house... what are you all going to do about that?

The planetary alignment is looking solid—really top-tier.

Kyle Rodriguez76 said:There isn't much to boast about here—Mars is sitting in an unstable Libra position, quite unlike my own placement in steady Virgo.

Virgo is systematic—Libra is charming.
I would argue that systematic, dogged persistence carries far more weight than mere charm. 👍
Kyle Rodriguez76 said:So, a Virgo doesn't hold steady? What's that about?
I’ve got Scorpio in my Moon and Mercury sitting in a conjunction with the Sun in Capricorn—so basically, I’m covered across the board. Maybe the only "difficult" aspect here is Venus in Aquarius? 🤔

A Moon in Scorpio—it’s a volatile placement.👍
Venus in Aquarius suggests you possess a truly singular approach to hedonism.😉

Look, if anyone out there despises drugs, alcoholism, or gambling—that’s me. I have zero interest in those things. Neither do I enjoy people being overly intrusive—it’s just not my style. The only thing that holds true is that I don't gossip about "scandals," nor do I tell my friends about my private life or who I've been seeing. I keep that to myself. There isn't a drive in me to broadcast it, and frankly, it wouldn't be fair to others.
But you seem like someone's clone—though, it feels like you might be holding a grudge against my previous handle. :kav a:

Isn't it obvious?🍿

Things have honestly gone downhill lately. What even is this thread supposed to be? Just some endless loop of "tee-hee, ha-ha" where you and user_name try to low-key pitch yourselves for the moderator role? It's ridiculous.

rustydrifter10, I really hope you're actually reading all this. Personally, I think the person who started this thread is exactly the kind of person we need—someone who actually understands how user_name handled "policy" and knows when to use a heavy hand.

It isn't fake; Keith Cox6 is right here to testify.
The woman actually followed me—she showed up on another forum where I serve as a moderator, specifically in a thread I started, and she didn't receive a single warning there.

She received a few mild reminders to leave me alone and to note that I had no interest in dealing with her, but none of that was official moderator action.

Every troll falls into a different category; one must distinguish between them and react accordingly.
A troll who just trolls by suggesting someone for moderator isn't particularly dangerous—they mostly just make people laugh.
But those malicious individuals who would aim to block half the forum...
That is a different matter entirely.

Moderation is work, and accepting a moderator role on this forum would mean a significant workload.

If we are having a discussion, it is only natural that I express my opinion. Just read the thread title.
Alexander Gray2 is a good moderator, and some of ruggedscout76's solutions are excellent.

It isn't entirely clear to me why you are participating in a public discussion if your primary goal is simply to threaten others.

A "heavy-handed" moderator would result in bias or mass bans against the majority of people who support a certain view.
From user_name's "haha thread" onwards, it's been heading that way.
And a dead forum serves no one's interests.

I can't stand irresponsibility in a professional setting. Honestly, I gravitate toward roles where accountability is high; if there’s no sense of duty involved, I simply lose interest in doing the job.

Jeremy Bishop35 said:The concept of "real life off" has been the standard for ages—honestly, 90% of the posts and threads on this forum or even on Reddit have nothing to do with having a functioning brain. If there's any actual discussion happening with a purpose anywhere, it's over at ŽUD, though even there, desperate housewives seem to run the show.

The forum has devolved into a collection of clones—chronic trolls who just mock anyone they can to drive people crazy. You've got folks like chocobelu and coastalwalker9 constantly falling for every bit of cheap bait thrown their way. Then there's that guy back on the NoFap thread because he couldn't find a girlfriend, so he settled for finding guys who are either straight or gay. Or take yuna, breaking records by falling for "charismatic" types despite having zero common sense—otherwise, she wouldn't even be able to manage a two-word conversation with them.

Not exactly the elite crowd you'd want to hang out with. 😵

This forum needs more quality people.

I’ve tried starting my own threads before; for a little while, they actually gained traction, but eventually, the momentum dies out—both the willpower of the participants (which is a valid criticism of most members here) and the time required to sustain them.

In my opinion, it would take a massive amount of energy to bring this place back to where it ought to be.
We need a complete paradigm shift—a move toward constructive thinking on this platform.

The worst thing you can do is burden the site with endless complaining without offering a single constructive solution.
It’s pretty obvious that those types of "proposers" wouldn't last a day in moderation.

We have a new moderator, we have a fresh start, and we have a chance to fix things.
There are actually some solid solutions out there (shoutout to ruggedscout76 and the US community) just waiting to be implemented.

But you need the energy to pull it off.
If I were a moderator, I certainly wouldn't have banned Toxic and zeko; instead, I would have given them a chance to prove they could actually contribute something useful.
Unlike Toxic, who hasn't even opened a single public thread on this forum, zeko started this one a few months back: where he uses his typical trolling style to try and entertain people.
The thread is obviously meant for trolling, yet it managed to stretch to eight pages.
If nothing else, the kid at least put in the effort and gave us a laugh—he isn't all bad.

I believe there is real potential among the younger crowd; they just need the right direction.

I don't want to stoop below a certain level, but I read threads on this forum whenever I can stand it, even though most of them are bottom-tier. That's why I'm complaining—because there's nothing worth saying and it's painful to read. 🤷 The forum today isn't what it used to be. ☕

And you're just one of those problematic users who pushes a communication style that's nowhere near the standard you claim to uphold. How exactly are you adding quality to these discussions? Have you changed your tone since the partial bans? Of course not. ☕

Just because you opened the thread doesn't mean you own it—nor does it give you license to state things that simply aren't true.
You've been around long enough that you really should know better.

Be the change you want to see.
Using PDFs isn't self-service, and a simple change in moderation isn't going to fix everything overnight.

The forum needs to attract people first.
That simply won't happen if the community is being shaped by individuals who contribute absolutely nothing of substance.

You have to invest energy into this forum—you can't just sit back and expect a free ride.
Once again, I want to commend ruggedscout76 for her work over on the US site and what she's accomplished there.
Your approach is the polar opposite of hers.

It doesn't work like that, Noah Fowler3.

Unlike you, I actually have X open threads on this forum.
Just look at the view counts and how many people have engaged with them.

What was the last thing you started?
A thread over on PZK where you're just complaining about something?
Demanding things because you think you're entitled to them?

I find it fascinating when someone claims to be "high quality," yet when asked to show any actual results, they turn out to be a total non-entity.

Get it together.
I am not talking nonsense, nor are my words without weight.

Try being constructive for a change—surely you're capable of making a comment like that.
