...all those films by the Tykwer-Griebe duo... Tykwer leans so heavily on the visual aspect, and he really found his perfect match in Franko Griebe (especially in stuff like Winterschlaefer, since that movie is basically just one long, poetic image 😍 )... ...and if I didn't mention the work done primarily by Juergen Juerges for Michael Haneke, well, that wouldn't be me...🙂 (even if, during his "cleaner" filmmaking phase, the director seems to be handing more and more control over to others)... ...I also see someone mentioned Songs from The Second Floor a while back, which I definitely agree with...👍
...that's enough for now—I'm pretty predictable 😳 🙂
(As for Anthony Dod Mantle, I'll leave him to someone else—he's highly acclaimed, but for good reason 🙂 )
...really, really sweet movie...it’s a great story, but in my humble opinion, it has one glaring issue: the romantic subplot is poorly executed and feels totally redundant—and since there isn't a second plotline to lean on, the whole thing suffers. That's why the first half works so beautifully (the acting is spot on, the dialogue flows, and it's shot quite elegantly without being pretentious, which is something you rarely see in American cinema 🙂), but then it just falls off a cliff in the second half. Mind you, that isn't the fault of the leads—they're both solid, even if the gorgeous Natalie Portman carries more weight because she occasionally feels a bit too "earnest"—it's entirely on the screenwriter... ...but I won't ramble on; it's a sweet, engaging, and deeply sincere piece of filmmaking. After this, I'm definitely expecting big things from Nuić 🙂

....there’s this other movie with a similar title—though the content couldn't be more different—that this whole thread just reminded me of. Honestly, it’s probably the most optimistic work from its brilliant director... so, here we go, might as well mention it The Age of the Wolf😍.
...unfortunately, the shot I got of Saddest Music is pretty terrible. I actually debated not filming it at all—honestly, I almost didn't—but I figured even with the crappy quality, you shouldn't miss out on seeing it... though don't expect this to give you any real idea of how gorgeous the cinematography actually is...😢 ...that said, I promise (and I won't forget, I swear) to send over a better clip if I ever manage to track down a higher-quality version...🙂
...I'm certainly not going to try and compete with contributions like 😍, but I want to pivot toward that "completely different" visual style you see in Guy Maddin's films... whether people actually enjoy his work or not, they always look "different" 🙂
...and now—maybe I shouldn't, maybe I should—I really ought to mention Doyle's work here 😁
...yeah, Nuicev—it’s actually a really interesting movie. It loses a bit of steam in the second half, but I can forgive it... since it's just his first feature length, you have to wait and see how he evolves as a director...🙂
Dr. Miller said:Hmm. Given all those teen slashers, the endless boat trip movies, and stuff like that... well, what can you really expect?
...okay, okay, I get it 🙂 I was talking about the movies I've actually sat through—you know, the ones I actually had expectations for. As for slashers and that whole genre? I usually just leave those to the people who actually enjoy them...🙂
...Murna, then Fassbinder, Godard, Truffaut, Bergman... movies you just can't find anywhere else. Honestly, I think the rest of the American public should be watching them too—on a decent schedule, mind you, not just some random Sunday morning at 10:00 AM ...I feel like NBC could actually learn a thing or two from the networks over in Europe, where they actually bother showing both the classics and modern art-house cinema on their channels. It seems like NBC has decided to take a completely different approach to what television actually is—or should be—and they build their programming accordingly (for instance, why doesn't NBC1 have not even one show dedicated strictly to books, featuring literary discussions and things of that nature?)...and I'm not even counting FOX or CNN ...since Nova managed to completely mess up their NFL broadcasts, how could we possibly expect anything "cultured" from them?
...honestly, V for Vendetta was one of the absolute worst movies I watched last year... probably even one of the worst from the last five years or so 😬 but I see it’s actually pretty popular around here... hey, to each their own, right? 🙂
EDIT: please don't come for me—I just had to get that off my chest and now I feel much better 🙂 😳
...honestly, don't take the boss too seriously... he’s just, hmmm, a bit sentimental about certain things😉 😍(he's basically playing nice because she forgot to give the update on Chris...😳)
