Internal PCIe to USB Type-C header card in Hardware ·

The specs right here show it has both USB Type-A and USB Type-C

What motherboard are you running that doesn't even have a USB 3.0 header?

The AMD Radeon HD 6670 isn't complete garbage. An AMD Radeon RX 550 is definitely more powerful, but at the current price point? It’s just not worth it.

USB ports on a motherboard—whether they're on the back I/O or connected via headers—usually have pathetic power delivery. In my experience, you can rarely rely on a full 1A. If this fix actually solves that problem for you and it's something you genuinely need, then great.

But honestly, you probably have an open USB 3.0 (USB-A) header lying around. You could just use that for what I linked instead of eating up a PCIe slot. It might even hit 10 Gbps, though I doubt anyone really cares about 10 Gbps speeds on a front panel port.
If you do decide to go the PCIe route, I don't think you'll need extra SATA power. A PCIe slot can pull 75W, which is way more than any device like this would ever demand.

I don't think you actually need a PCIe card unless you're dead set on hitting 10 Gbps.
I was looking into this myself since I'm in a similar spot. I thought I found an adapter that plugs into a USB-A header, but honestly, you'd probably just be stuck at 5 Gbps.

It claims to support 10 Gbps, but I wouldn't trust that blindly.

Yeah, you're good to go.

If you didn't pick it up in person, you probably bought it online, which means you've got a 14-day window to return it. Honestly, I wouldn't look at Logitech if you actually care about music, though maybe they're fine for some people.

Did you order it pre-assembled?

They’re supposed to build and test the thing. If the PC boots up, everything should be fine.

P.S.

Never messed with Telebit before (but they’re a legitimate outfit, not some shady basement operation). Your best bet is to just give them a ring and ask if they can handle the assembly.

So, that Power Supply crimsonstag84 was pointing out is fine.

If you want to step it up a notch, look for Gold efficiency—better quality overall:

EDIT:
He listed them but they were out of stock... missed that.
With this setup, you can pretty much throw almost any GPU in there later.

The Seasonic comes with a 5-year warranty.

As for GPUs... right now, the market is a total disaster. A decent card costs a fortune; it’ll blow your budget wide open.
Plus, if you're buying a dedicated GPU from the jump, you don't need a processor with integrated graphics.
If you want a GPU right away, tell me your total budget, but I wouldn't go over $3--$1333 more than that.
It's highly likely the GPU market will stabilize in a year or so, so you might land a much better deal then.

And whenever you finally do pull the trigger on a GPU... it depends on what you actually need and what you play. Maybe something like a 6600 XT (which is sitting around $1667, but should be closer to... maybe $200-$250)

I don't think you'll lose much here. It’s not exactly a high-end setup, and the onboard audio on your motherboard probably isn't absolute garbage.

You could always look into some USB DACs with RCA or 3.5mm outputs—though good luck finding one that isn't overpriced junk.

Shush. You get an extra year of warranty, even if the wattage is lower. If he isn't planning on slapping a beefier GPU in there later, I’d go with that one. But hey, if that LC Power is actually on par with the Hexe Pro, then it's a solid buy.

btw crimsonstag84, do they actually assemble these things themselves?

SSD:

Power Supply:

When I add this to my cart on Amazon, it comes out to about $1517$
. Could you please double-check everything one more time? I think I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and order this.

I might swap out this SSD for a 1TB version instead, so if you have any recommendations, let me know!

Also, total "dumb question" here, but will this order include everything I actually need for the build?
Like cables, wires, screws, mounting brackets...?
And I'm assuming I'll need some thermal paste too, right?

It’s all included. Thermal paste comes pre-applied on the stock cooler.
Though if crimsonstag84 put everything in one shop to have them assemble it, most US retailers will do the build for free when you buy the whole rig, and the warranty stays per component.

Anyway, if you aren't planning an upgrade to a high-end GPU, I'd rather go with one of these power supplies from better manufacturers. They're plenty.
Specifically, I'd grab a Seasonic over that LC Power any day. 500W is enough (but not really :/) .

Dunno. Maybe that LC Power Silver is fine.

I'd probably put together something fresh with integrated graphics—should be plenty for running emulators.

Say, a build centered around this https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-5-5600G-Processor/dp/B09V6R1C6W

You get a current-gen processor and decent onboard graphics, plus you can always slap in a dedicated GPU later if you actually need one.

I’m guessing the second one is also 8GB of RAM.

The first option is better. You grab a 250GB SSD for the OS and still have that extra hard drive for storage.

A 120Hz refresh rate isn't some flashy gimmick; if you're dropping $1,500 on a gaming laptop, it better come with an IPS screen at 120Hz or higher.

That link Amy Vaughn12 shared is solid. A buddy of mine has a similar build—I think it has an RTX3070—and he’s pretty happy with it.

The Ryzen 9 5959 x isn't a mobile chip, so you won't find it in any laptops.

The 5800H is a great processor, works just fine for gaming and everything else.
It’s not even illegal, and you still get your regular security updates and everything. Honestly, Microsoft couldn't care less if people are running unactivated or "grey" copies of Windows. Selling licenses to individual home users is just a tiny fraction of their revenue anyway; they'd much rather have an active user getting security patches who might eventually subscribe to something like OneDrive or Microsoft 365
