Gaming PC build around $2,200 budget in Desktops ·
Alexander Moore67 said:Honestly, I don't see how anyone can justify that price gap for an R7 2700X. $392 An R5 5600X. $950.

That’s exactly why I say you should just wait until prices hit something reasonable. You can't expect top-tier price-to-performance when you're aiming for a high-end build. If that's your only metric, nothing makes sense except the 1600AF.

analogtiger19 said:Pretty sure wiredotter14 got his numbers mixed up; he probably meant the 5600x...

Didn't miss anything. What are you talking about?

Alexander Moore67 said:How much of a Bottleneck would an R7 2700X and an RTX 3070 cause in modern games?

The 3070 performs right around where a 2080Ti did, so those old benchmarks are still pretty much spot on. A 5600X is a step up from what people were running back then—mostly 8700Ks.
The Bottleneck would be roughly 10-20%, though it really depends on which game you're playing. If you're just sticking to AAA titles at 1440p on max settings, the difference is probably only a few percent. It’s nothing crazy. If budget or timing won't allow for anything else, it's a decent move.
Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
Fair enough.
And hats off to the guys buying used GPUs for a few hundred bucks less than retail.
Maybe they just happen to have it available through two different Amazon sites, otherwise Prime doesn't even work for the USA. For me, it comes out to $114, which isn't exactly impressive
Amazon Prime shipping benefits only apply to the specific country where your membership is active. So, if you have an American Prime account, that means ordering from Amazon.com to a US address. Any other combination just won't work. That said, you can stream Prime video wherever you want and still make use of Twitch Prime
I'm rocking a G402 myself. Assuming they're similar, it’s a solid mouse.

Kimberly Gomez34 said:Well, if you're planning to build this piece by piece, look at this post—if you see these two drives on Amazon, grab them immediately.

Basically, get a 970 EVO NVMe for your system drive and a 2TB SATA drive for storage.😁

If you think you'll need them, just pick up at least one of those.

Grab a mouse too if you need one (unless you have tiny hands). If you don't have an Amazon account, it's easy to set one up; they just ask for card info, and you don't even need that verification device right away. You won't see the final price until the very last step.

I agree regarding the fake discounts—you have to watch out—but $1333 is unrealistic. The actual market price for that GPU is closer to $1667. The issue is that they probably can't even source it for $1933; that's just what the website claims.

Those launch day deals are a complete scam. They never actually sold anything at the "base" price they advertised.
Yeah, 5000 is a fair target, though it’d be a miracle if it hit that mark in the next month or two.

Anyway, what's your take on that AMD build? If he's counting on an RTX 3070 from Best Buy for $1833 and a 5600X from Amazon for $1000, can he actually pull off a rig like that by buying parts individually?

The thing is, a new AMD Ryzen just dropped—it’s a high-end CPU at a mid-range price point—but right now, prices are way too $167 inflated.
Ideally, you'd buy things piece by piece and have a full build ready around January, but I'm not sure how realistic that actually is.

Personally, I think you should hold off on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 until it drops to $1667 or lower. That said, right now, you can't find anything else this powerful for less money.

Look, on one hand, this is an amazing time to build because the new series is finally here. Just a few months ago, that same budget would have gotten you much weaker parts.
On the other hand, nothing is actually in stock...
It depends on your timeline. To me, that build I linked above looks solid—it’s great because you’re getting both next-gen components. The real question is how much extra margin they added to cover the current market mess and whether it fits your budget. By my math, you could afford the rig and the Dell UltraSharp 27, but you wouldn't have enough left for the rest of the peripherals.

It would be good if someone else could weigh in on that build from gov.us.

$333Grab a deal on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 and pair it with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X for $392 and you've basically got your Black Friday setup.

🤣🤣🤣

1)
$333 It's just a discount compared to some fake price. They could have just said "on sale from $6.75" and it would be the same thing. An NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 at MSRP plus sales tax should be around $1333. Obviously, that’s not realistic now—you're looking at closer to $5,000 range—but $2.00 isn't actually a deal.

2) The 2700X is worth it because it's a solid deal for the money. The 2600? Not worth it in a build like this. The 1600AF has been around forever; it's basically the same thing and won't keep up with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070.
An Intel Core i5-10600K is better than the 2700X in most games, but you'll still run into a bit of a bottleneck with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Alexander Moore67 said:Just my two cents here, but pairing an AMD Ryzen with a B550 board and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 should work fine.

Pairing a 2600 with a B550 makes zero sense. If you aren't stepping up to an Intel Core i5-12600K, just grab an Intel Core i5-10600K with a B450 or B550 motherboard. Use the B550 if you can afford it, otherwise, there's no point.

Guys, what do you think? Can I build something comparable to that rig on gov.us for the same price without jumping to the next generation, or maybe just by swapping one part (either the GPU OR the CPU)?

If you can't afford to wait, I think that setup is solid—it's just cutting it a little close on the budget. Honestly, with how prices are looking right now, you aren't going to find anything significantly cheaper than that combo of an Intel Core i5-12600K and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (around $3000 or $1667) than that pre-built

The 3400G might hold its own better on graphics, but honestly, it’s nothing special. If you aren't planning on gaming, just grab the i3. Much better value for the money

Looks like a solid deal to me. There were recently some $667 sales going on. If I'm looking at anything under $667, I'd probably aim for an RTX 2060 or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, but I'm worried prices haven't actually dropped yet—or there just isn't enough stock out there.

It’d be cool to build something like this, but on a tighter budget—and you’d actually know what’s inside, specifically the power supply and motherboard. Honestly, finding an Intel Core i5-12600K and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 at decent prices right now is a nightmare, especially if you want them from the same store.

Anyway, do you usually put these together yourself or just trust the shop to do it?
For a monitor, I’d set aside maybe $250-$$1000 for a 144Hz 1440p
setup.
