Long-term build configuration ideas in Desktops ·
Most people buying a motherboard for a Ryzen build (not an OEM PC) are going to be slapping a dedicated GPU in there anyway—since the Ryzen 5 3600 doesn't have integrated graphics—so the HDMI version is completely irrelevant. Especially in this case, since the OP specifically mentioned they already have, or are definitely getting, a graphics card.
I know we're talking about an older generation here, but... is this actually a good deal?

Basically, Windows usually keeps graphics drivers stuck on the latest WHQL version, which is at most six months old. You aren't going to see massive performance gaps there.

Andrew Miller102, why does the motherboard's HDMI version even matter if you're planning on using a dedicated GPU anyway?

Sure, an A520 can handle a Ryzen 5 3600, but if they want something actually decent—you know, better VRM cooling, superior I/O, four RAM slots...—they'd be better off stepping up to a solid B450 or at least a B550 like the DS3H or that Prime model I linked.
Of course, that's assuming it fits the budget....
If it doesn't, then you just buy whatever you can afford and call it a day. It'll work.

The processor and 4GB of RAM are usually soldered right onto the motherboard, so you don't really have much to work with here.

Is that middle shot (HEVC 4K) also at 6mbps? It looks like it has the best quality to me.

To be honest, you just need to look at a standard 1080p monitor to see how dense those pixels actually are.

Anyway, once I went over 32", everything else just feels too small.

What exactly counts as "work" for you?

I’ve been rocking a 32" 1440p setup for ages. Used a Dell before this, but lately, I've been using the exact AOC you're looking at.

For general tasks—writing, Excel, making presentations, whatever—it’s totally fine. Honestly, I actually prefer having all that extra screen real estate; being able to snap two windows side-by-side is way more comfortable than trying to cram everything onto a 27".
The pixel density is basically the same as a standard 23" 1080p monitor, so feel free to test it out yourself.
You might notice the pixels if you lean in about an arm's length away, but I have zero reason to do that unless I'm obsessively tweaking a PowerPoint pixel by pixel while zoomed in.

If you're planning on doing heavy graphic design or digital drawing, though, I don't think this resolution cuts it. You'd be better off getting a 4K monitor.

I provided guidelines (the i5 tier) and used the term "best buy" in that context...
If someone tells me, "Look, you absolutely have to go with 10th gen because of X and Y," then fine—I'll listen.
I'm reading through here that I should avoid ASRock motherboards—fine, so which brand actually makes good ones? (I'm not interested in paying extra for RGB lights or overclocking capabilities since I don't do that, but I still don't want junk)
I'm not exactly up to speed on power supplies either, so I'm looking for recommendations there too... (just nothing from Corsair, I've had three bad experiences with them)
What about RAM and SSDs?

It's just that the Core i5 10600K, especially without OC, isn't a best buy.
But fine....
Tell me if memory speed actually matters to you.
The only way to avoid paying for overclocking features you won't even use is to grab a B460 chipset motherboard. But on the LGA1200 platform, only the Z490 chipset supports Memory OC, so with an i5 processor, you're stuck with 2666MHz memory.

It's hard to give an answer when calling an i5 a "best buy" for what you need is basically an oxymoron.

which motherboard would you suggest for a Ryzen 5 3600?

Check out this thread

Sure, you could always go more expensive. If you're dropping more than $333 on a motherboard, the options change completely.

Looking at this
If I swallow the crap e-digital is selling, the price looks solid. This monitor uses the same panel as that AOC one, though apparently the color gamut is slightly narrower or whatever.
Thoughts?
Is it worth messing around with e-digital for $67?
And is that 5-year warranty coming from the shop or the manufacturer?

That’s basically an i5 equivalent—just a quad core without Hyperthreading. It’ll still feel like hardware that was struggling with serious video editing five years ago.

It all comes down to what you can afford. AMD has three generations out, and the fourth drops before the year ends (might be worth holding out if you can)

If you want cheap but actually decent, the Intel Core i5-9400F is a $300 phenomenal deal for a 6/12 chip.

The next step up from there would be the Intel Core i5-10400 (because even though the Intel Core i7-8700 has 8 cores, it isn't any stronger than the 10400).

Then you move into the 3700X or 3900X territory.

You get what you pay for, but that 9400F is easily the best value.

Check your Device Manager. Look at the Network adapter settings under Power Management and see if "Allow this device to wake the computer" is checked. Do the same for any other hardware components.

Also, you might find similar settings buried in the BIOS.

I just assumed budget wasn't an issue.

The AMD Threadripper 3990X is a solid choice
USB sound card or headset? in Computer Peripherals ·
1. Is your headset connected via USB or those dual 3.5mm jacks? You can swap between different devices right from the macOS Menu Bar.
If you're already using Speakers, I'm guessing you're running HD Audio through the case front panel. Or maybe you've got multiple channels plugged directly into the motherboard?

2. It’ll probably just show up as Logitech. I use a USB sound card, and regardless of what I plug into it—even if it's my headset—it always shows the same damn name (USB Advanced Audio Device).
It's all just plug & Play and generic drivers.
