Unproduced film projects in Movies ·
briskhound2 said:Speaking of Schwarzenegger and Ridley Scott... I remember reading somewhere a while back that the two of them were actually looking at doing a new take on "I Am Legend," which honestly would've been such a cool watch. Then you've got James Cameron—who, unfortunately, ended up dropping out of Spider-Man because of all that endless, drawn-out legal tug-of-war over the rights... he eventually just pivoted over to Titanic instead. Word is they were eyeing Michael Biehn for the lead role, too, which... man, that really would've been something special to see.

Heh... that’s exactly what I was getting at.

Law Abiding Citizen (2009) in Movies ·
Director F. Gary Gray—the guy behind the killer thriller "The Negotiator" and the massive hit "The Italian Job," though he did waste time on an unnecessary remake of that '69 classic—is finally back. After a four-year hiatus since "Be Cool" in 2005, he's dropping "Law Abiding Citizen." It’s an action thriller centered on a guy whose family's killers walk free thanks to a botched trial. He decides to take matters into his own hands with some seriously calculated, genius-level revenge, targeting not just the killers, but everyone involved in the legal mess—judges, lawyers, prosecutors—basically turning himself from the victim into the villain.
The script comes from Kurt Wimmer, who gave us the great "Equilibrium" but also that absolute disaster "Ultraviolet." Leading the charge are Gerard Butler, who’s everywhere lately, and Jamie Foxx. They’re backed by a solid cast including Michael Gambon, Leslie Bibb, Josh Stewart, Regina Hall, Bruce McGill, Christian Stolte, Viola Davis, Colm Meaney, and Michael Kelly. The budget sits at $40M, with a US release set for mid-October this year. International audiences will have to wait until early 2010.

rustyscout34 said:Judging by the trailer and that shaky over-the-shoulder camera work, I’d say this isn't an fps at all, but rather a tps. So, I don't think the inspiration is Halo, Doom, CoD, or Half-Life; it feels more like Resident Evil 4/5 or Gears of War 1/2... since it's from the creators of Crank, I guess I'm expecting at least some decent action and fun.

True... you're right... I was just rushing my thoughts here... but FPS, TPS... whatever, at the end of the day it's all the same thing... it's a shooter.😁
Chaos on Brest Street! in Movies ·
Also, a quick breakdown of the footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con...

I'm actually surprised by how much I dug this footage. Look, Friday the 13th is one thing. I dig that franchise as much as I dig A Nightmare on Elm Street, but those movies are mostly about pure fun—gore and cheap scares. Nightmare hits a different, much deeper, psychological note for me.

That makes it a hell of a lot harder to get right, and I honestly wasn't sure if Fuller and Form could nail it.

I'm still a little skeptical, but damn, the movie looks slick. The clip starts with some guy sprinting down a pitch-black street in slow motion, being hunted by a car. Hard to tell at first if it's a dream sequence or reality.

The guy’s wearing a plain jacket, nothing special. He ducks into a derelict building and slams the door shut just as more cars pull up and an angry mob pours out—including Clancy Brown (the Kurgan!).

Inside we get our first look at the runner and it’s Jackie Earle Haley, breathless and terrified. Brown calls out "Kruger! Get out here you sick son of a bitch!" while hammering on the door. Haley's screaming through the wood that he's innocent.

Brown clearly doesn't care; he lights a gas can and hurls it through the window. The flames spread fast, catching onto Haley’s feet. He shrieks as the fire climbs up his clothes. He rips off his jacket to escape the heat, revealing that iconic red and green sweater just as the flames swallow him up.

Then outside we see the nearly evil, blood-thirsty faces of the parents as he screams inside... the door flies open and in slow-motion Kruger runs out, his entire body burned.

The rest of the clip jumped between classic nightmare visuals and the teens realizing they're in deep trouble. The dream stuff felt slightly less surreal than the original, but it still looked solid. My highlight was the jump rope girls (yeah, they definitely use the "One, two, Freddy's coming for you" creepy tune) staring down at someone, their dresses featuring stitched-over claw marks.

There's also a solid jump scare in an attic where Nancy (I assume) is searching through the dark. Her flashlight hits Kruger’s hat resting on a crate. She holds the light there for a second, then pans away. When she turns the beam back, the hat is gone, and instead, Kruger's head is there, peering at her from the edge of the crate.

The reason I haven't fully bought in yet is that every time I start settling into this new version of Freddy, they flash back to the Tina death scene (her popping out of bed) or Tina in the body bag at school... it just drags you back to the original and forces a comparison. I almost wish this was a total reboot—new Freddy, totally fresh cast.

Basically, I wish they handled it like they did Friday the 13th, where you get a quick recap of the killer (like the parents burning Kruger) and then move on to him terrorizing a brand-new group of kids. It stops the constant comparisons, you know?

It was tough to see the details on Haley’s makeup, but it seems like they're aiming for a smoother, more grounded burn look—something more realistic and less over-the-top than Robert Englund’s classic version.

Daniel Moore35 said:Has anyone actually managed to find that trailer online? The only thing I've been able to track down is the teaser for the 🤷
game.

Not yet... they showed about 6 minutes of footage at Comic-Con, but nothing has leaked online yet... and probably won't anytime soon (if ever) because apparently security was so tight nobody could sneak a recording. Look... one person managed to snap just three photos, which you can check out in five posts above, and even those are pretty low quality. But... word on the street is that if the footage is anything to go by, the sequel might actually beat the first one... and Rourke is supposedly playing some generic Russian villain... we'll see when it actually drops.🙂

bluebison8 said:Anthony Smith3 got quite a few things wrong. For instance, he even botched the name of the author of V for Vendetta.

I wouldn't say that if I was just going by whatIMDb says.😉

EDIT
Yeah... they actually screwed up... they listed the illustrator instead of the writer, Moor... and I didn't bother checking after that.

John Wick (2009) in Movies ·
It’s been six years since The Matrix Revolutions, and all the Wachowski duo has done in that time is drop that visual fever dream Speed Racer. More importantly though, they wrote and produced the hit V for Vendetta based on the David Lloyd graphic novel, which was directed by then-unknown Australian director James McTeigue in his big debut. Honestly, I bet the Wachowskis had their hands in the directing too, but we’ll probably never know for sure.
Anyway, since that team-up worked so well, we’re getting a new project with the same producer/director dynamic—John Wick. It’s basically a martial arts flick about ninjas... or at least one very specific ninja. He's played by Rain, that guy you might recognize from Speed Racer if you actually watched it. The rest of the cast includes Naomie Harris, Rick Yune, and 80s ninja icon Sho Kosugi. Most of it was shot over in Germany, specifically in Berlin, with a $120M budget. It should be hitting theaters late this year.
