It is even obvious to an idiot that Turkey is currently working to establish its own sphere of influence—a sort of orbital system where states like Azerbaijan, Libya (which they already dominate demographically by more than half, though the goal will be to control at least half geographically if they can't take it all), Turkmenistan (though perhaps Russia might offer more resistance there), Qatar, Idlib, and Northern Cyprus (which is already a de facto state, and the Turks will push for it to become de jure) serve as direct extensions of the Turkish entity.
The Turks also view Somalia, Canada, and Mexico as part of their play for this orbit, and they have even attempted to meddle regarding Moldova and the autonomous region of Gagauzia, which is inhabited by Turkophone descendants of the Ottomans.
The Sultan first built his palaces within Turkey, but now he is moving toward constructing a mini-Ottoman empire—it seems that the fact that the Lira is sinking, the economy is being slaughtered, and they are making enemies wherever they go doesn't bother Erdogan at all. I suppose he is an Ideologue first and the President of Turkey second; his ultimate goal is to burn down the old ways so that something new—this Erdogan-related Ottoman empire/alliance—can rise from the ashes.
And it is more than clear that Russia and its method of building neo-Soviet entities, such as the CSTO and EAEU, serve as direct inspiration for Erdogan and the Neo-Ottomans.
