Thoughts on Spencer (2021)? in Movies ·
Kevin Brooks said:I can’t even put into words how bad this looks. It just feels like one massive, pathetic joke.

And Stewartica? She can't act to save her life. She’s just sitting there with the same vacant expression the whole time. It's awful.
Based on the trailer alone, it would be an absolute embarrassment if she were even nominated for anything, let alone actually winning an award.

She isn't even close to the level of the actress in The Crown. (I can't remember how old she is—not that I feel like looking it up.)

Emma "I could eat Kristen for breakfast" Corrin.

Personally, I wasn't even alive when the movie came out back in 1978 (intentional choice of words), so I don't really know what kind of nostalgia you're talking about; I saw it much later in life.
The film is a classic and still holds up perfectly today.

briskhound2 said:I guess that’s pretty much it. If it includes that scene where Elise decapitates someone... then yeah, you're definitely watching the extended cut. It also features that conversation during the flight about how one of the brothers died—stuff that just wasn't part of the original theatrical release...

Apparently, Romero's version doesn't feature music by Goblin; the version with Goblin is actually Argento's (if I'm right about the editing). That Romero version was meant for the US, while the Argento one was for Europe because they supposedly hit a wall with distribution logistics.
In Italy, it was released under the title Zombi, which is how it still comes out today (I have the DVD).

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this movie (most recently this past Friday). My husband is a total Romero fanatic; he even got a photo with him back in 2011 at the Science Fiction Film Festival in Trieste.
At that same festival in 2018, they screened a restored version and had Dario Argento introduce it. What I found fascinating was him saying they were essentially filming it with the spirit of a Western. If you look closely, some scenes definitely have that touch.

Honestly, bikers get on my nerves because of this movie. Just when you think you've organized everything and found some sense of security, that wild gang swarms in. When I watched this as a kid, I felt so bad for them. In the end, you realize the real danger isn't the zombies, but the people and what they turn into.

And please, don't start with the "cheap" makeup comments (okay, fine, the blood is a bit too bright and red), but that was done by Tom Savini (the guy playing the main villainous biker).

Just finished watching.
Amy Adams is great, but I was honestly expecting much more from this one.
To be fair, it kept my attention until the end, mostly because I just had to see if Punch would pull it off.

I can watch Stargate or The Day After Tomorrow without feeling any embarrassment at all. 🕺☕
Nomadland (2020) in Movies ·
Ugh, just finished watching it.
I didn't have high hopes, and honestly, even Frances McDormand rubs me the wrong way sometimes—she always comes across as a bit pretentious and trying too hard to be "indie." I was texting a friend earlier who started it a few hours before me; he messaged saying, "I'm only thirty minutes in and I already want to die," and his final verdict was, "The whole movie is just people talking. And everyone is a hippie with terrible hygiene. I'm not feeling it." We usually have pretty similar tastes, so I hit play with a healthy dose of skepticism.

It actually ended up being better than I expected. As much as I consider myself a rational person and totally get where northerncrane4 was coming from, a part of me desperately wants to see even a tiny glimmer of human resilience or the possibility of healing.
No matter how much I dislike that lifestyle—and believe me, I’m typing this from the comfort of my own home, surrounded by my things, with lunch simmering on the stove while my cat naps on her blanket—I realize that everyone chooses their own way to fight, and they cope with pain however they can.

I'm genuinely surprised I liked it.

And yeah, I did cry during one scene and at the very end.

Agreed.
I thought The Beguiled was pretty bad.
Tesla (2020) in Movies ·
Did you start this thread on purpose or was it just a coincidence?
Anyway, this looks... khm... a little cheap, even if Ethan Hawke is a decent actor. But I'll check it out; I'm always glad to see movies being made about Tesla.

Just the thought of this actually happening feels like a sign of the coming Apocalypse.
The Little Mermaid (2023) in Movies ·
Setting aside the whole debate over skin tones, what really grates on my nerves is how they’re butchering Andersen's original story.
I'll start weighing in on the casting once I finally see a version on the big screen where the Little Mermaid actually has bloody feet from every step feeling like she's walking on red-hot knives—and where the ending follows the book, with the prince staying with his wife while she wanders the world as a spirit just to earn an immortal soul. Only then will I have something to say about the actors.
As for the plot itself, people can pretend it's whatever they want, but it’s basically just a forced, overly optimistic happy ending.

Kimberly Rivera89 said:I just remembered another one—that room with Brie Larson. The first hour was honestly such a struggle to get through. It’s definitely one of those "tougher" watches, especially the first time you see it.

Man, that sequence where he runs, the driving, then the police... Those scenes were incredibly intense.

Hmm...
It absolutely wrecked me emotionally, but it’s a masterpiece— Incendies.
What financial problems are we even talking about...
She’s drowning herself in booze and hallucinating.

She was actually an even bigger mess than him—just barging into Barbara Rosa's room and stripping her naked without a second thought.

God, the whole thing was just a disaster—the wedding, the old lady, the dress, everything.

And the actress (Alma) is fantastic; she spends the whole movie just staring him down with those eyes.

Absolutely.
Even while she's eating, the way she listens to everything he says—more than when he first asks her out—shows just how much she trusts him and loves him.

Alma's dress was actually lovely 🙂

She was excellent throughout the entire film.

I love how, even during that first restaurant meeting where she seems innocent and naive (not just because of the age gap), she immediately shows her strength of character. He thinks he can breeze through without remembering his order, but she doesn't just remember everything—she reads him instantly and beats him to it by sending the message ☕🥳

😍😍

Honestly, I figured he wouldn't be able to pull it off a second time because of all that butter she used 🕺
There's no way in hell I could finish all that grease 😳

And she was even more of a mess than him, just walking into Barbara Rosa's room and stripping her naked without a single thought.

Great movie, easily has the best line ever written 🙂☕

Some people might find the fashion segments tedious or excessive, but if it were up to me, I would've included even more.

I completely get where Alma was coming from; she just wanted that level of devotion and passion he had for his craft all for herself.
He totally won me over when he started complaining about how loudly she was eating.

Raymond Anderson4 said:If there’s one movie you should steer clear of, it’s this one—mostly because it features Olivia Spencer, who easily ranks in my top three most pathetic characters ever put on screen.

Probably Octavia...🤔

Anyway... I already wasted several hours of my life reading that trash years ago, so all bets are off regarding whether I'll actually sit through this movie.
If this is what passes for faith or spirituality these days, it’s no wonder the world is falling apart.🤦
Best Movies of 2017? in Movies ·
I've got a few more titles on my watchlist, but I doubt any of them can top Blade Runner 2049.

Aside from those, I really enjoyed Mother, A Ghost Story, Song to Song, Lady Macbeth, Brimstone, and La La Land.

Wind River was fine, but honestly, I don't know what I was expecting given all the hype...

Alien: Covenant was a disappointment, and Get Out was so bad it’s beyond just being a letdown.

From every angle, 🙂

The whole upbringing thing works for the story, but their logistics are totally unrealistic. Where does the money even come from for an operation like this? How do they handle freezing winters in the middle of nowhere? Where do they get stuff like boots, or what happens if someone actually needs a dentist? You've got six kids all rocking perfect, pearly white teeth. Give me a break 🙄
And most importantly—it’s obvious his late wife was probably dying to escape that lifestyle and wanted a change. It's a shame the movie didn't dig into that a bit more...

That was my first thought when I saw the tent 🕺🙂
Give me a break...
As for the money, wasn't he wearing some kind of handmade craft to sell to that guy? I know you don't make much from that, but I got the feeling Leslie comes from a wealthy background, so maybe it's all just being funded by her family... I don't know, but they really could have made that clearer 🙂

They have perfect teeth because they don't eat sugary junk food 😉😁
