mellowskipper said:Hey there. I guess she might try to enroll in that major too. From what I’ve gathered—though I could be wrong—the entrance exam is where you really rake in the points. At least, that’s my understanding if we're talking about a Chicago high school.
Anyway, good luck.

It’s not like NYC—we aren't exactly your competition. 😉 Best of luck to you all as well. 👍

In my situation, I’m looking at Cleveland—or maybe Des Moines if I want an alternative—and there isn't even an entrance exam. At least, it hasn't been a total drag so far; I’ve already been emailing the school about specific courses, and they haven't mentioned anything about any kind of formal testing process.

Maria Rodriguez5 said:When you take a look at the average attendance numbers per match, you really have to wonder what the point of this league even is.
There is absolutely no way that combined, they'll draw 2,000 fans to a game in San Francisco.

If we’re following your line of reasoning, we might as well just scrap almost every single sport in America—because let's be honest, nobody is sitting in the stands for handball, basketball, volleyball, water polo, table tennis, bowling, or pretty much anything else...

A league is meant to be a competition between sports clubs—the fans are essentially secondary to the actual contest. If they show up—great, they're nice decor for the arena—but that's about it.

After that, they look at three specific subjects from the last two years of middle school (7th and 8th grade), which are: ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, MATHEMATICS, AND THE PRIMARY FOREIGN LANGUAGE (which for your daughter would be German) — that’s a maximum of 30 points. Then, they factor in elective subjects (3 subjects, with the last one determined by the specific high school curriculum) from those same final two years of middle school (7th and 8th grade) — maximum of 30 points = 80 points is the total maximum for HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT.

English (acting as the second foreign language alongside her first—German) is ONLY EVALUATED if that specific subject is listed on the criteria for that particular high school program. How are you supposed to figure that out? You should probably check the "High School Enrollment Elements and Criteria" document from 2015 (just scroll down—those "elective subjects" for enrollment are listed at the very end of that document).

👍

Thanks for such a detailed response. 👍

Look, we’ve already got the math part figured out—we have our calculator ready to go—but honestly, the thought of sitting through an English exam just for the sake of it sounds absolutely exhausting. I'm really not in the mood to tackle English as a standalone subject for the application. The track I'm looking at is web design, so they're focusing the grading on physics, technical drawing, and art. Why bother with the extra headache?

Quick question for the experts out there:

My little girl had German as her primary foreign language in elementary school, with English coming in second.

If she decides to pick English as her main foreign language once she hits high school enrollment, will they be looking at her German grades or her English ones when calculating her GPA for admissions?

Look, Hajduk isn't actually that bad—it’s just that teams like Lokomotiva, Sibenik, and Istra have stepped up their game lately. And now even Gorica is finding its footing, while Varazdin and Slaven have been trouble for a long time now.☕ Okay, sure, Osijek and Rijeka have massive budgets behind them.

Everything else is just a drop in the bucket.

I was just saying yesterday—and I stand by this—that if Dinamo had actually played Hajduk, they would have walked away with a brand new little sister.

If we were actually playing based on merit, the standings would look completely different—Slaven probably wouldn't even be in the conversation. But let's face it, football isn't about how pretty you look on the pitch; it's about the scoreline. That's the only metric that matters in this game.

It’s official—Hajduk has basically become Dinamo’s little sister.

Honestly, nobody is doing anything to help Dinamo secure the title this year—they're just letting them walk right into it.
Aaron Adams6 said:Hey everyone. Does anyone know where I can track down or buy some old newspapers? Specifically, I need copies from November 16, 2021. I’m putting together a unique gift for my daughter since that’s her birthday, and I want to find a news clipping from that exact day.

I think most physical back issues just get recycled—which is a shame, really—but plenty of major papers maintain digital archives now. You can usually find an article online and just print it out. For instance, the New York Times has a massive archive, though you’ll likely have to pay for a subscription to get in there.
.

It really depends on which paper you're hunting for. If you're lucky, you might be able to reach out to the layout or graphics department at a local press; they tend to keep electronic files of everything they produce, so you might be able to snag a PDF to print.

With the big national dailies, it's a bit of an uphill battle—not impossible, but definitely more work—but for smaller local papers? A quick email should do it. Honestly, I suspect most people would be happy to help you out with something as sweet as this.
How to congratulate someone on a new baby? in Miscellaneous ·
Donna Young said:Exactly. Honestly, bringing a healthy, thriving child into this world is a much bigger achievement than just getting married—at least in my book. To me, successfully having a healthy baby ranks right up there with finally grinding through college and actually walking across that stage with a degree in hand. 🙂 🥳

Don't go trolling the guy—we might actually end up calling him to offer our congratulations later. 🕺

David Flores68 said:I’m a little on the spectrum, so I sometimes struggle to wrap my head around these kinds of social norms—it's just one of those things that doesn't always click for me—so I figured I'd just ask: is it actually standard etiquette to congratulate someone when they have a baby?

So, Smith just had a new baby—congrats to him, I guess—and I was wondering, is this actually the right move, or should I just send a quick congratulatory note over WhatsApp?

Honestly, you could take that personally—though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised—but it might be better to just play it safe and skip sending a card altogether. Why bother risking a total meltdown of the relationship over something so trivial? It's just not worth the headache.

Honestly, you’re better off just blocking the number entirely—save yourself the headache before some drunk idiot starts blowing up your phone with those nauseatingly sweet, overly sentimental holiday messages. 👍
rapidstag2 said:So, I’m "nobody" now? Fine, fine... I can already tell that there isn't much substance to be found in your arguments. 🤣😁

First, they were all over the Cinquenta situation, then they were screaming about Aubrigo being offsides until Ryan Vaughn7 pulled him out of ban limbo, and suddenly, I have been completely forgotten. 🤷
Where has their conscience gone, my dear friend Jesse Sullivan5?

Forgive me, darling 🕺

Let me set the record straight—rapidstag2 and Bomber actually pulled me out of that moderator darkness, so thanks to them!
I’m stepping up to support the removal of this completely senseless ban on my colleague—honestly, I was a victim of the same repressive administrative machine just recently myself, and I wasn't cleared until my good friend Bomber stepped in to set things right.

I can't help but wonder, where on earth does all this massive hype surrounding Lionel Messi come from? Right now, Fox's front page is practically plastered with at least four different articles featuring him in the headline, and honestly, it feels like that’s been the case for most of the year. Even during the World Cup, it seemed like nearly every single story would kick off with something like "Messi and the rest of the national team stars..."
Now, I'm certainly no tactical genius when it comes to soccer, and I'll admit, my loyalties lie nominally with Real Madrid. I don't follow the MLS very closely—aside from glancing at the headlines—so perhaps the media is giving this player's technical skills more credit than they actually deserve. What I did witness during the World Cup, however, wasn't exactly something that warranted such universal awe. Sure, he scored against Canada and provided an assist against Morocco... but was that really it? Beyond those moments, it felt as though his stamina completely deserted him after the 60th minute. He certainly didn't strike me as the undisputed superstar of the national squad, and I find it incredibly difficult to understand why he's being treated with almost messianic devotion over at Index.
I'm not saying this to imply that some other player is being unfairly sidelined because of him, but I have to ask: is Messi truly such a massive icon?

They probably just figured out that Dalmatians and Hajduk fans click and engage way more often if they put Messi in the headline—nothing more to it.
