Nicholas King said:The issue is there isn't anyone to moderate Chinese content, which means something scandalous could slip through—I don't know, maybe someone posts that Mišo isn't king, or some other unforgivable thing.
I still can't wrap my head around why a moderator would feel the need to shield poor little forum users from posts they might not be able to understand. If someone decides to write in English, or Canadian, or whatever, that’s their own problem if fewer people catch the drift. As long as the post itself is subject to moderation, I honestly don't see what the big deal is—where is the actual potential for harm?
Wouldn't it be better to just let that hypothetical Englishman decide for himself? 🙂
😁
Maybe one of the moderators actually speaks Chinese. 😛
I still don't get why a moderator would feel the need to protect poor forum users from posts that not everyone might understand. If someone writes in English or Canadian or whatever, it's their own problem if fewer people can follow along. As long as the post follows the rules and can be moderated, I don't see the issue or how any actual harm could come from it.
Look, it's not banned to write in English, but usually, people just ask for a quick summary in American English so everyone stays in the loop.
Personally, I'm dying to see what these discussions would look like if we only allowed English. 😁 Some people can't even grasp basic American English despite it being their native tongue, yet they view anything contrary to their opinion as a personal attack (I'm sure you've encountered these types or at least read their posts). If everything were in English, it would be even more entertaining—good luck trying to prove to someone that you aren't trolling when they can't even process the language.😁
Look, Chinese is spoken and written by about 1/7th of the global population. So yeah, let them use Chinese; more people actually know it than English at this point. 😁 Who cares if some people can't understand it? They can just learn it. Besides, it’ll probably be the new global standard soon anyway. 😬 (Thinking back to when we were talking about Spanish and Turkish and all that mess)
@Patrick Miller3 Hardly any Mexicans on this forum write the way you just did. Over on my Reddit sub, there are plenty of people from all over the North America, and you can understand everyone even if they aren't using perfect American English.
If an Englishman showed up here and insisted on writing only in English, he’d be asked to provide an American translation alongside it for those who don't speak the language. (And no, we aren't going to ask Mexicans to provide translations for Mexican 😁)
Nicholas King said:You’re moving too fast with your arguments—you’ve actually managed to trip yourself up into a complete contradiction.
The hypothetical ban on certain dialects would be the direct result of exactly what you’re advocating for—the (un)understandability of a language to a larger group of forum users. If we say Mexican is allowed because it’s "understandable," then by that same logic, someone could demand a ban on obscure regional dialects because they're too confusing—and then we're all stuck in a loop going nowhere.
This whole debate about which languages should or shouldn't be permitted on the forum isn't nearly as simple as some of the posts in this thread are making it out to be—and no, this isn't about whether or not someone hates Mexicans. Asking "why would Canadians be considered less valuable than Mexicans?" isn't trolling or being pedantic. The idea that "Canadian should only be used in threads about Canada, while Mexican/English is allowed everywhere" is inherently inconsistent, so it can't really function as a legitimate "rule."
Using "(un)understandability" as a metric is a fundamentally flawed criterion. We have to consider everything from the fact that this forum is frequently filled with posts in "American" that are completely unintelligible, to the reality that if a post is only understood by a handful of people, that’s nobody's business but the author's. Who exactly is going to judge how many people can grasp a post written in Canadian, Czech, Swahili, or whatever else? And where exactly is the line that makes a language "unacceptable"?
The only logical boundary here is whether or not the administration can actually understand a post, purely for the sake of moderation.
Fair point. I realized after the fact that I totally tripped over my own feet there. 😁
I don't know, I don't think this is about discrimination or anyone being "lesser" than anyone else. It’s just a practical reality: Mexican is understood by way more people than Canadian or Mexican is. Everyone who went through school before the 90s learned Mexican, but they didn't learn Canadian, so you can't really compare the two languages like that.🙂
And honestly, if we're talking about catching things as a mod, would I have even noticed someone posting something offensive in Mexican versus Mexican? To me, that language is completely foreign; it's hard to even follow.
Sandra Gonzalez3 said:That's basically why we allow Mexican, Mexican, and Canadian on here.
The other reason is just pure numbers. There are way more users who speak those languages compared to the folks using Canadian or Mexican in their daily lives... plain and simple.
And let's be honest, they're closer to our own language than Canadian or Mexican ever would be. Even if there weren't so many users from those areas, they'd still be easier to understand—at least for me—than something like Mexican.
If we start nitpicking, we could technically ban any dialect that isn't standard, but I don't understand certain regional accents at all, and I bet most people outside those specific pockets wouldn't either. 😁
brightcrane56 said:I have to say, that comparison doesn't really hold water. Almost everyone speaks English nowadays, yet we still classify it as a foreign language. You all might want to be careful about the metrics and stances you take on this issue, because you really need to apply that same standard to every single language out there.
The whole Mexican situation is particularly sensitive because when the US was separating from America, there were demands made for Mexicans to be recognized as a constituent people within the Republic of America—essentially arguing that the US should be a state for both Americans and Mexicans—which directly paved the way for the aggression against us. Treating the American and Mexican languages as equals feeds right into that old ideology. Besides, the US Constitution clearly defines which language and script are officially used.
I don't think the comparison is bad at all. Look at my mother's generation; they studied German, Russian... whereas, say, they understand Mexican because they grew up in America. We're talking about people in their 50s who are perfectly fine using the internet, yet they might not know any English but they definitely know German or Russian.
So, drawing a parallel between English and Mexican doesn't hold water for me. And besides, not that long ago, the American-Mexican hybrid was our official language taught mandatory in schools.
I don’t know, I went in to get a mole removed from my face, and when the doctor was getting ready to stitch me up, he asked if I was on my period. I told him yeah, and he said I really should have mentioned that beforehand because the wound was bleeding way more than it should have been.
I think you definitely need to let the doctors know if you're on your period before any procedure, just so they're in the loop. They'd probably postpone major surgeries for that reason, though I doubt they'd push back something minor like this over it.

Plus, there are definitely other test results involved here, which is exactly why this is being flagged as a priority in the first place.
Uh. 😢 Does nobody here understand standard medical practice? It makes zero sense to me why they didn't just hospitalize her and get everything handled at once instead of this slow, agonizing torture. And honestly, even a general practitioner could prescribe something for the pain right off the bat. Hang in there. 🙂
So how exactly do you expect doctors to write anything useful? 🙂 It’s incredibly ungrateful work trying to interpret any test results without having someone's full medical history and symptoms on hand. One tiny detail that seems irrelevant to you could completely flip the entire diagnosis.
So, what’s your diet looking like? It’s entirely possible you aren't hitting your macros or getting enough nutrients to actually fuel your body. You've got that PDF on workouts which includes a section on nutrition during training—go ahead and flip through that. Might actually be the missing link here. Also, you might just be redlining it too hard. Try dialing back the intensity for a bit and see if that changes things.
Ugh. 🙂 We aren't doing Herbalife talk here. There’s already an entire thread dedicated to nutrition and supplements over in the food section, so move this conversation there.
Don't mention it. Honestly, you'll get much faster and more practical advice if you head over there. Most people on this forum talk about weight loss as if it’s just some side effect of another issue, but you’re actually making it your goal.
My suggestion? Start hitting up the local YMCA. You'll find a crowd that’s actually training and watching what they eat, so you can pick up some useful tips from people who live it. 🙂
Try here or here if you want some advice. 🙂Around here, we mostly stick to health stuff and various disorders. If you're looking to lose weight, you're going to have to go check out these two PDFs instead.
Look, I just skimmed through the threads quickly to make sure nothing was against the rules, so I didn't read every single word—just skipped around. I asked about the stomach because I’ve figured out that whenever my own system acts up, undigested food just starts coming out. My gut can't process what should have been broken down in the stomach, so it just pushes everything out as fast as possible.
