Enough with the bickering, get back to the point.

If you’ve got some calendula salve on hand, just use that. It’s great for minor scrapes, rashes, and stuff like that.
Donna Fowler2 said:Look, I get where you guys are coming from, but you don't get me either. I got into another massive blowout with my parents yesterday, and you know what my dad said? He basically told me he can't wait until I go for my EEG, because if it comes back clean, then he's completely done with me—just thinks I'm being a total drama queen.

Honestly, I feel for you. Having parents like that is just hard to wrap my head around. 😢

Anyway, what I want to know is how many times have you actually had those episodes where you can't even speak properly? And when it hits, how long does it usually last?

Also, how long has this whole cluster of symptoms been going on now?
Let me know what the doctors end up telling you once you finally corner them.
Anyway, I’m really hoping we all just overreacted here and you’re actually fine. 🙂

Personally, if anyone in my circle came to me describing symptoms like those and tried to claim they were okay, I’d drag them to the ER by their ears if I had to. I wouldn't just sit there and tell them they're talking nonsense and that nothing is wrong.
I’ve gotta tip my hat to her for caring this much. I just hope she’s this attentive when her own ass is on the line.

A stroke can hit you at any age. Sure, it’s rare in young people, but it’s not impossible. It could be anything—maybe seizures, maybe a tumor, or an aneurysm just waiting to burst and bleed you out, or maybe... You aren't going to get any real medical insight from a forum other than the fact that these are heavy-duty symptoms and you need to figure out what's actually going on.

And honestly, how are we supposed to take you seriously when you claim you aren't scared of brain cancer and then add a "haha" on top of it? Have you ever actually gone through brain surgery, chemo, or radiation? You think that's some minor inconvenience?
Angela Wright said:It feels like your replies are turning into pure trolling at this point. ☕

Either she’s trolling or she’s being incredibly reckless. 🤷

If someone is playing games on a medical forum about stuff like this, they need professional help—like, psychiatric help.

If she isn't joking, then she needs to get her act together. The next episode could leave her paralyzed. Who knows what we're actually dealing with? It could even be a minor stroke, for all we know. If people want to mess around with that, fine, do whatever you want.

I think we've made our points. These are serious symptoms that need actual medical attention. At the end of the day, it's her choice whether she wants to sit at home surfing forums trying to self-diagnose or actually head to an ER to get real tests done. 🤷

Since when is trolling allowed to troll? 🙂

Take ZUD, for example. They deal with trolls all the time. The people there are smart enough not to engage in pointless arguments or rack up useless strikes. Instead, they pull specific posts and demand the troll actually explain their logic. Either they clarify themselves, or they get tangled up in their own lies and end up banned. 😁

That’s how it should have been handled here. Pull her actual posts and ask her what she meant, rather than attacking a troll on such a sensitive topic. Honestly, I think the ban was totally justified, and the user isn't even complaining—she knows she crossed the line.
😢

I don't even know what to tell you. Do you have any adults in your life who can actually drive you there and stay by your side at the hospital? Honestly, just tell them you’ve got elderly relatives who couldn't care less about you, and let the social workers deal with the fallout. But for God's sake, make sure they run the tests.
I don't know, if it were me, I’d just leave. I wouldn't be sitting around waiting.

What happens if the next attack leaves you completely paralyzed? You could have prevented that by getting out of there right now to see what's actually going on. You have no idea what you're dealing with, so don't just sit there waiting for it to happen again. Go find out why this is happening.
God.

Seriously, just grab your parents and head straight to the ER together. If they try to brush you off, go see the hospital administrator first thing tomorrow and report whoever turned you away. These symptoms you’re talking about aren't something to mess around with; it could be anything. You need to get checked out immediately and start some kind of treatment if it's necessary.
That’s exactly what I was getting at.

We're going to see more and more of this. 😢 They’re cutting corners and pinching pennies everywhere you look.

Comments like that have absolutely no business being on threads like this. Period.

If some woman is trolling, just report her and move on. It’s up to the mods whether they actually sanction her or not. But mocking people on topics like this? It's pathetic. I doubt anyone dealing with actual trauma finds those comments helpful or "funny." Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't think certain subjects should be treated as a joke.

There is a massive difference between trolling someone on a stupid thread about some guy peeing in a pool next to you, versus trolling on a thread where people are sharing something genuinely sensitive.
Mary, you seriously need to get to a doctor right now. 🙂 These symptoms aren't something to mess around with. I honestly don't get why you didn't just head straight to the ER.
Mosquito bites and stings in Health ·
Austin Hill6 said:I’m starting this thread because I want to know if there’s anything sitting around the house that can actually work on a mosquito bite.
The itching is driving me absolutely insane, but I really don't feel like running out to buy some overpriced cream.
I've got five or six bites right now and if I don't stop scratching, I'm going to lose my mind.

I know I'm about a month late to the party here, but maybe this helps someone. People say putting regular white vinegar on the bite works; I tried it and the itching actually felt better. Now, is that legit or am I just imagining things... 😁

Well, the server finally bit the dust and went to heaven, so you might as well drop the link before I lose my mind. 😁

Honestly, this hits home for me too. Some of these threads are way too valuable to lose. Given how messy things have been with the server lately, I wouldn’t bet anything on being able to dig up specific info five years from now. Better to just grab a backup while we can. 🙂
I think I finally hit on something here. 🎉

Thanks for clearing that up for me. 🙂
I don't think those are antibodies for one specific strain of strep or staph, but rather for a whole group. And my take on the AST-O is that it isn't limited just to beta-hemolytic types; it covers others too.

Look, I’m no expert and I don't claim to be, but it doesn't make sense to me that a test would target just one single specific bacterium. If that were the case, you'd need a different test for every single type out there. I suspect this titer isn't pinpointing a specific strep or staph strain, but rather just signaling that antibodies are present. From there, you have to go find the actual source and figure out which beast is actually running the show.🤷
analogbison13 said:That value seems off to me. Back home, the reference interval for this is 200... and we're talking about Group A beta-hemolytic strep here, not staph. 😉

It’s the same story here with the AST-O (that strep titer). This Asta test is for staph, so maybe the values are different. I’ve never had that one done myself. 🤷
coppersurfer3 said:AST could also mean -> Antistreptolysin titer

I realize I’m replying to a five-year-old post here, but I want to set the record straight. AST-O stands for antistreptolysin titer. I had it tested several times a few years back and they always used that abbreviation.

AST, ALT, and GGT are liver enzymes.

I saw somewhere that AST was being used as shorthand for that antistreptolysin titer, but I don't think people use that anymore. They probably switched to AST-O just to avoid confusion over whether you need a liver enzyme test or a titer.
(If I'm wrong, maybe one of our doctors on the forum can correct me 🙂)

goldenmarlin6 said:I went in to get checked for that Asta because I've been having tendon issues and I have no clue why I needed this test. Now I'm just waiting for an appointment with my doctor and God knows when they'll actually see me. I think I'll have to go to a private clinic. Anyway, does anyone know what it means if my Asta is 4 but it should be up to 2?

Did you get your results back yet, or are you just asking for info?

If the reference value is 2 and yours is 4, it means the titer is positive—basically, you have elevated antibodies to staph. It shows there was either an infection caused by that bacteria in your body, or one is still active.
