COVID-19 updates and discussion in Health ·
I’ve been browsing online, and apparently, the last time we had a declared pandemic was back in 2009 with the swine flu. Hundreds of thousands died, and millions were infected. During those first few weeks or months, mortality rates were sitting at 7%... until, of course, they adjusted the data to include all cases and accounted for all those people who flew under the radar because their symptoms were too mild. Then suddenly, the mortality rate dropped to under 0.1%.

How many coronavirus cases have gone completely unnoticed? Probably hundreds right here in the States. Take these twins, for instance—they were among the first cases reported in the US. According to the media, they barely have any symptoms. Just a slight fever and a cough... at this rate, half the country could be walking around with it.

What actually fascinates me is how much bigger the mess was in 2009 based on those numbers. I don't recall seeing nearly this level of panic. Now, we're shutting down schools, canceling sports, closing restaurants, putting entire states or cities under quarantine... you name it. It’s not like I was a kid back in 2009, so I didn't experience it firsthand, but still...

I thought the movie was great. Then again, I’m probably biased since anything involving Rocky is right up my alley.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if they made a film centered on Viktor Drago; there's plenty of material there to work with.

Stumbled upon this on YouTube. The trailer looks solid; I'm definitely downloading it. It actually reminds me of another movie... Children of Men. That one was incredible. Here’s the trailer for that one too:

Just binged the first three movies today. Honestly, the third one is a masterpiece compared to this new MI flick.
Didn't he walk away from that hospital explosion with nothing but a mild concussion, yet he’s still pulling all this stunt? Not to mention how many times he slammed his head into things while chasing that briefcase...

I wasn't exactly expecting a masterpiece, and I got exactly what I asked for—plenty of action and enough humor to keep it moving. It’s a bit unrealistic, sure, but honestly, that’s what I signed up for.

The fourth one is a parody of that horror flick—I can't recall the title right now—but here is a picture.

Now you guys have just gone and confused me.

So, there's 5 in Saw, 4 in that horror movie from the picture... and the picture is just a doll from Saw. Is this some kind of mind game?

I haven't watched anything since Scary Movie 2, so I honestly have no clue.

I was actually hoping the lawyer would take out his wife and daughter, considering his daughter was exactly the same age as his own when she was murdered.

Look, everyone's going to praise whatever they personally use. It's not worth grabbing the most expensive option just because they're marginally better than the standard stuff. My choice is different.

First off, he said he started going around 9 or 10 months ago last year, not that he's been going for 9 or 10 months already...
Second, you claim the premium stuff isn't worth it, then immediately drop a link to the most expensive proteins on the market. Even if things are slightly cheaper in Canada compared to the US, those high-end brands are still top-tier pricing everywhere.
Hereafter (2010) in Movies ·
The topic is open...

I haven't sat down to watch the movie yet, but I highly doubt it’s some massive disaster. Maybe it won't quite hit the heights of his classics like *Gran Torino* or *Invictus*, but calling it a total train wreck? I'm skeptical. I'll catch it soon enough and see for myself.

And just to be clear, glucose isn't maltodextrin.

Anyone tried this protein before?

The brand isn't exactly a household name, but I usually stick to the old mantra: "a protein is a protein." My main concern is how easy it is on the stomach. Some cheap brands—looking at you, Weider—always leave me with a massive stomach ache right after. When I have a bit more cash to burn, I just order the good stuff to avoid the hassle. $83 You really can't find anything cheaper than this for a 2.2kg tub, especially since it’s loaded with 5g of BCAAs and glutamine. Honestly, looking at their site, it feels similar to ordering from sites like Bodybuilding.com or Vitamin Shoppe. The only difference is you just email them your info and shipping address.

I also noticed they have 5kg of maltodextrin for about $25. Usually, that's what you'd pay for just 1kg here in the States. $27 That price is absolutely insane.

Was just scrolling through IMDb when I stumbled upon this. First, I was surprised I hadn’t heard of it, then even more surprised to find there isn't even a single thread about it here... the new Clint Eastwood flick starringMatt Damon is supposedly the lead... though I'm not entirely sure if he actually is.
...not going to say anything about the plot since I haven't watched it yet...

And honestly? I work a part-time gig through a campus service, and the extra cash really matters to me. From my paycheck, I set aside at least $100 a month just for things like low-fat cheeses and stuff. Most seniors end up buying the canned tuna... meanwhile, I’ve been sitting on the same 5lb tub of whey for months.

Every night I eat about 200-250g of cottage cheese mixed with a small fruit yogurt. I can't stand the taste of plain cottage cheese on its own...

Here’s my food log for today:
I was working, hit the gym, and then in the rush, I skipped my usual oats with a scoop of Optimum Nutrition whey or just having them with milk and a few eggs... Instead, I grabbed a sandwich at work and 180g of tuna—about 30g of protein out of that 140g serving. While waiting for the bus back home, I ate some chicken breast, though who knows how much actual chicken they actually put in those things. Once I got home, I had more tuna like I did at work, and around 11 PM, 200g of cottage cheese plus some fruit: two bananas, an apple, and some tangerines. No protein there, so I didn't bother counting it; that's just for energy.

I think I'll add another shake with cottage cheese and fruit yogurt... But listen, if I brought that to work, how long would it last at room temperature? Would it spoil? It would be perfect since I have one long break where I eat my tuna, plus two tiny 10-minute breaks where I barely have time to finish half a sandwich or a piece of fruit. Having cottage cheese and yogurt in a container that I could just knock back in a few minutes would be ideal. Could that sit out from 7 AM until my last break at 1 PM?

Also, regarding the eggs—how many boiled eggs do you think equals 18g of protein? From what I've read, there's about 8-9g per 100g, and 100g feels like a decent amount of eggs. I'll weigh them out in the morning.

Let’s hear some different perspectives here. How much protein should I actually be hitting daily? I'm currently bulking... trying to cram in as much as possible, but I'm struggling to push past 1.5g per kg of body weight. Right now, my floor is about 90g of protein for my 183lb frame. A buddy of mine insists I need at least 2g per kilo, but from what I read, anything north of 2g is mostly for pro bodybuilders and the hardcore crowd. That’s not really my scene; I'm just a recreational lifter.

Check out Polleo Sport near the intersection of Selden and Oak; they're basically the MVP, though they carry other brands too.

Then there’s Multipower over by the river near Baskier; they sell Warrior, though I'm not sure if they have anything else.

I think there's another Multipower spot near the convention center. I haven't actually been inside, but I see the sign from the bus, so it's probably legit.

There's also ProSport—can't remember the exact street, but it's near the Chase Tower when you turn left off the main road.

And Helix? Pretty sure it's somewhere on Vlaska. I haven't visited, but they seem to carry a bunch of smaller brands.

That's everything I know. There might be more shops out there.

Quick question here... what’s actually the big deal if you take a whey protein that uses aspartame or other artificial sweeteners? Aspartame is in basically every pack of gum out there; if that's your reason for avoiding certain brands, I find that pretty hilarious. Are you really going to drink that tasteless sludge just to avoid it? No thanks. Tried it once, never again.
