Best concert of the year? in Music ·
Right, the release date is June 3rd, set in... costs $18 during pre-order...

They actually have an interesting FAQ section on their website where I was genuinely surprised by the answer to this specific question:

What are your influences?

Individually, the influences of the Dirtbombs are all over the map. Every one of us owns over 1,000 LPs, covering the entirety of recorded music. Strictly speaking, Mick (who handles the majority of the songwriting) lists the band's major influences as Wire, Pere Ubu, Mission Of Burma and the Swell Maps, with a big nod to Glam Rock.

It wasn't until I read this—and after hearing Mick Collins say in an interview that everyone can shove their "garage rock" label because their music is way closer to Television than any garage band—that I finally realized why they're so great. It's the same reason those punk bands Mick mentioned work for me... they're quirky, compelling, and different...

There’s been plenty going on in Chicago this season, but honestly—the more I indulge in dirtbombs and the more I read these glowing reviews from various US-based forum members about their live shows—the more I’m prepared to declare this the concert of the year. At least where rock'n'roll is concerned...

Here are some photos I previously spammed over on the blues explosion thread. 😳

You aren't going out to dance—you're heading straight into a war zone.
Kevin Chavez3 said:If Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Dälek can team up and everyone loses their collective minds over it—literally celebrating like idiots—then there’s absolutely no reason why we shouldn't see a joint show from Elemental and Ramirez. 😕

You’re absolutely right—I’m not exactly thrilled about seeing the best noise band on the planet sharing a stage with those mainstream rock pretenders, but it is what it is. 😉
banderas said:Regarding Mocvara—I believe their programming is high quality. If certain journalists can't stop whining that Mocvara isn't Attack, that’s their own damn problem.

Look, my take is simple—Mocvara’s programming is steadily declining. It has less to do with actual quality and everything to do with the bottom line. That’s their choice, and I respect it—but it's still a choice. As for that journalist in question, I’m certain he isn't losing any sleep over the fact that Mocvara has abandoned its roots. They aren't running a show like Kseta anymore; they're running something much more like Attack.
It’s an interesting point—mostly because I was starting to think I was just imagining things, or that I was the one who was actually out of the loop and failing to grasp reality... then this article surfaced on the front page

Fine, let someone else try to bring them in then... I'm going to take a shower. 😎

They reached out and said they’d love to swing by after the concert in Chicago... the only issue is July 2nd. It's going to be brutally hot here—I'm seriously considering pushing this back to the fall instead.
But look, if you guys are insisting, we can extend the season—which was originally set to wrap up on June 25th—by one more week. 😉

Screw this🙂

They're better than Waits

The girls are only showing up for the Nashville festival—they didn't decide to stick around Europe a bit longer like the Liars did...

Haha—I didn't catch that at all... nice one.

banderas got a bit mixed up—he was thinking of Nick Cave... Mike Watt is actually heading to San Pedro with a group of sons of American immigrants, one of whom married Liljana Nikolovsku (formerly of Magazin, before she left the band)

The rumors have been confirmed... I'm looking at April 12th. 😉

Kevin Chavez3 :
Unbelievable... Turning down Electric Frankenstein just because of that garbage...

First off—that garbage costs $500 while Electric Frankenstein is three times that. Second—the offer for that trash came in a full month before the EF proposal. Third—at least 150 people will show up for that junk, whereas I’m afraid we won't even hit 100 for EF. When you run the numbers, the math is pretty damn obvious. 😉

I have another idea, though—I'll give it a shot...

Yeah, I heard the same thing—but the offer came in a bit too late. That date is already booked with xiu xiu... plus Liars are playing the day before.

Kevin Chavez3 said:Remind me—when exactly is He Who Must Not Be Named scheduled to show up? April 17th, if I recall correctly?

April 12th. And there’s even a chance one of his major influences might drop by ten days after that...
Man, if that actually works out, I could finally retire in peace. 😎
What do we think about Franz Ferdinand? in Music ·
Sure, you’re chasing a black cat while I’m eyeing a Golden Globe... at this rate, the trophy will be delivered right to my doorstep, and we can celebrate by cooking a massive pot of chili out front of the club... seriously 😎
