Robin Booth, I can't wrap my head around dropping $60, $70, or even more on some skater shoes when I can pick up a pair of Vans for maybe $20—and they hold up just fine for two years despite me absolutely destroying them [30-25 miles minutes a day on my bike, manual labor all day at the site, basketball a few times a week, and increasingly soccer]... I’ve already said it: Adidas is the gold standard for quality. That's why every three or four years, I grab a pair of their skate shoes for basketball; the ankle support is honestly better than most dedicated hoops models...
That’s all well and good, but even the most basic Adidas kicks look incredible compared to those monstrosities... honestly, Reebok is in a league of its own when it comes to pure tackiness—they’ve mastered the art of being hideous 🤮
The reality is, plenty of these skate brands pull in serious cash making decent shoes, even if they are based here in the States 🙄

In my opinion, they look better with Reeboks than any other sneaker out there. Not that Americans or the British ever really had an eye for design to begin with... sure, there were some decent Jaguars back in the fifties, but Americans are absolute hacks when it comes to aesthetics. They just got lucky with Converse. 🙄
The Italians, however, actually know how to design something beautiful—but what good is style when almost everything they make is cheap junk? Except for their speakers. [Brands like Klipsch and Sonus Faber absolutely destroy the competition in every single way possible 😍]

The only reason Converse ever became a staple of the American underground rock scene was specifically because of the price tag—Ian and his crew bought them because they cost $15-$20, whereas kids today buy them simply because they look cool... I stopped wearing them ten years ago. No matter how good they look or how much nostalgia hits me, I always force myself to buy something comfortable, waterproof, and—crucially—cheaper...

If you haven't noticed, today's morning paper didn't bother mentioning the Dirt Bombs once... instead, they wasted space on two separate pieces about Mariza—that’s at least four different mentions of this Portuguese singer in one issue alone. Cynics would love to claim certain reporters are on the payroll of some specific club, but let's be real: it's just because the Dirt Bombs aren't exactly A-list material, and clearly, Mick Collins is a non-entity in the rock scene. 🙄
