2009 Car Reveal in Formula 1 ·
mistybear87 said:It’s honestly pathetic to watch—they’ve got this beautiful wing held together with nothing but some cheap duct tape, and now they’re just shedding parts all over the Mugello Circuit like they’re losing hair. 🤣🤣🤣

😠 Honestly, just based on the way you're talking, I can already see it happening—you’re going to spend the entire season completely blowing it because of that attitude.😠

Did you catch that Discovery documentary the other day about Williams? They were pulling out all the stops—showing everything from the inner workings of the factory and those high-security secret rooms to the owners, and even those massive pre-race hype sessions they put on for huge crowds of fans over in Russia. It was pretty intense.

I actually liked him, to be honest. You can tell just by looking at the guy that he’s a decent human being, though I can't help but wonder if he’s mostly just running on fumes and empty promises at this point. 👎

mistybear87 As if I haven't heard this all before—it’s like watching the same rerun of a bad sitcom where you already know exactly when the punchline is going to land, only to realize it wasn't even funny the first time.
So, I just took a look at today's testing results out in Austin, and honestly, if you believe what the numbers are showing, Williams is absolutely tearing it up right now. They aren't just competitive; they're looking convincingly like the class of the field. It’s one of those situations where you have to wonder if we're actually seeing a genuine shift in the hierarchy or if it's just some early-season smoke and mirrors, but man, seeing them pull ahead like that is something else. 🙏 It looks like Red Bull Racing is out there running laps with last year’s chassis again, just to see what they can squeeze out of it.

Position | Driver | Team | Time | Laps
Lap time data shows Buemi driving that Red Bull-Ferrari (B) clocked in at a 1:27.987 after 128 laps.
Looking at the numbers, we've got Rosberg driving that Williams-Ford, clocking in at a 1:29.729 after 143 laps. It’s just one of those gritty, grind-it-out sessions where you see exactly what the car is capable of when pushed through the long haul.
Then you've got Hamilton in that McLaren-Mercedes, putting up a blistering 1:30.242 on lap 81. Honestly, watching him navigate those turns makes you realize just how much grit it takes to keep that machine on the edge without blinking.
4. Glock Ford (B) 1:30.878 63
5. Alonso Renault (B) 1:31.743 84

Look, at the end of the day, we’re still just looking at preseason testing, so let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's all just noise and data points right now. I can't help but wonder where everyone else is hiding—where are the heavy hitters like the Ferrari drivers? It feels like half the grid is missing in action while we sift through these preliminary runs. 😍

Look, the Mercedes-Benz is still a gorgeous machine, don't get me wrong, but I just can't wrap my head around this new look. Those rear wings they've slapped on are honestly eyesores—way too high for my liking. It makes me wonder, though... with the aero shifted up like that, how on earth is the car going to handle the corners? I'm seriously questioning if the stability is going to be there when they hit the turns at full tilt.

darkmarlin16 said:😕😕General Motors—I mean, seriously, what happened there? I thought they could get away with almost anything, but that nose cone? No way. If it looks that bad already, we might as well just paint the whole thing white and call it a day.image😠
I’m just sitting here praying that their actual top speed ends up being inversely proportional to how hideous this car looks.

p.s.
Williams isn't actually going to look like what you see in these photos; they’re holding back the final color scheme and livery until later.

A two-time world champion deserves a much better-looking car than this. After last year, when they actually had one of the most stunning designs on the grid, why on earth did they pivot to this mess?imageimage

It looks like they failed the damn crash test, so they just slapped on whatever nose piece was lying around. Honestly, I don't think that design is staying; from where I'm standing, there isn't a lick of aerodynamics in that thing.😕

For me, nothing beats the classics like Ford, Toyota, and Williams—those cars actually had soul. But that General Motors build? Honestly, it’s an eyesore, especially when you consider the massive hype they used to drum up before it even hit the track 😂.

Roger Williams3 said:honestly, they don't even need to top the 2005 season. 😉

Beyond that, if Alonso can just be slightly less polished than the competition and still absolutely smoke everyone else on the grid—which is exactly what he did during that final stretch last year—he’s golden. 😉

When I really sit back and think about it, I’d actually prefer it if the Renaults weren't totally dominant in 2009; I'd almost rather see them be a hair weaker than the rest of the field. 🙂

And why is everyone being so blindly optimistic about Renault? For all we know, the car could end up being a total lemon. 🤷

the front and rear wings are honestly hideous, even if the chassis itself looks pretty powerful.☕

Is there any chance I can get my old drivers from Windows XP to actually work on Windows 7 ??? My rig is pretty much a dinosaur, but I’ve been itching to give this OS a shot and I'm wondering if it'll even hold up on this hardware

Hans Hermann managed to walk away from a terrifying wreck after losing his brakes heading into a corner. He was actually thrown clear when his BRM started barrel-rolling, yet somehow escaped without even a scratch. 🙏🙏🙏

Man, this stuff is way more intense than anything you'd see on a typical Sunday afternoon news cycle. 😲 😲 😲 😲

AUTOWEEK AND CAR AND DRIVER ARE JOINING FORCES!!!

To our loyal readers and all those who live for Formula 1.

The American edition of the world’s premier Grand Prix publication is turning a new page starting with the 2009 season. We’ve decided to team up with our sister publication, Car and Driver, to create a one-stop shop for everything car enthusiasts and racing fanatics crave. Starting with the first issue after the winter break, look for Autoweek hitting newsstands on March 15th next year, bundled together with Car and Driver. For the price of just one, you’ll get both magazines—that's roughly two hundred pages of essential reading for anyone who considers driving, or even just watching a race, to be a genuine passion.

For more details and extra exclusive content, you can head over to our website www.f1racing.com throughout the winter and beyond. If you currently subscribe to just Autoweek or just Car and Driver, you'll receive the second magazine at no extra charge; for those already subscribed to both, your subscription will be extended by a period equivalent to the price difference.

It's a New Year's gift that keeps on giving! Two magazines for the price of one!

Autoweek and Car and Driver hit stands on March 15, 2009. The planned retail price is $9.25, which is exactly what Car and Driver costs on its own!

I’m struggling to see the math on this one; did they just find some really slick marketing gurus to sell us this dream? ☕

I honestly don't even know where to start with this mess. It feels like we're just watching the wheels fall off the wagon in slow motion, doesn't it? You look at the way things are being handled lately, and it’s like someone handed the keys of a heavy-duty freight train to a toddler who thinks steering is just a suggestion. Everything is becoming so fragmented, so disconnected from how things actually work on the ground, that you start to wonder if anyone in charge is even looking at the same map as the rest of us. It’s exhausting, really—this constant sense that the rules are being rewritten mid-game just to suit whoever happens to be holding the whistle at that exact second. kaže:
$80 And to top it all off, they throw in a full set of men's grooming products as a little bonus—we’re talking about a kit that’s actually worth some decent money. $100I honestly don't know why people still bother debating this, but if you're looking at whether to go with a standard breathalyzer or one of those high-end digital units that actually gives you a specific reading, you've got to look at the big picture. It’s like choosing between a basic handheld scanner at a grocery store versus a full-blown diagnostic tool you'd find in a professional garage in Detroit; one just tells you if you're in the ballpark, while the other actually gives you the hard data. If you want to stop guessing and start knowing exactly where you stand before you even think about getting behind the wheel, the digital option is the only way to go. There's really no point in playing games with your safety—or anyone else's—when you can get an actual numerical value instead of just some vague "yes" or "no." $49) 😉

If you go ahead and sign up for that EVO subscription too, you’re basically just throwing good money after bad at this point. $165 And to top it all off, you even walk away with a free copy of Gran Turismo 5 for the Xbox 360. 👍

And to top it all off, they’re throwing in a free Michelin tire tread depth gauge with any subscription you pick up—just because they can.

That price point is actually pretty killer. I was wondering, though—is it possible to set up a subscription from over in Kentucky? I’m really looking to get a local paper delivered to my doorstep, specifically one that still carries those old-school comic strips. 🙂Honestly, I am just completely fed up with this whole ordeal of buying something two months old only to have it turn into a total headache. It’s honestly exhausting. 😢
