Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Jamie Hughes6 said:Sorry, but could you maybe walk me through that in a bit more detail? Either I’m being a complete idiot here, or there’s something wrong with my week because no matter what I try, those settings just aren't showing up anywhere.😕

Which specific Acer Emachines are you running? You might want to check the sticker on the bottom of the laptop to get the exact model number. 🙂

Jamie Hughes6 said:Just one quick question—I picked up a 5.1 surround sound system, but I can't seem to find the settings to make it all work. Everything seems fine, but I'm only getting audio from two speakers and the subwoofer; the other three aren't doing anything.

Right-click the speaker icon in your system tray > Sounds > Playback. Select Speakers, then click Configure in the bottom left of that window. Choose 5.1 Surround and run the test.
You might need to mess around with the settings inside those windows a bit to get it right. 🙂

I'm guessing you didn't actually have a legitimate, paid license to begin with, and I doubt these ones you're trying to install are genuine either. Norton has been doing a massive sweep to wipe out those kinds of keys lately, so maybe it’s worth considering just buying a real license or perhaps switching to a different antivirus altogether.🙄

Which remote? I'm assuming we're talking about a PC here, not some hi-fi system, since this was posted under Windows 7. 😕

What motherboard are we looking at—manufacturer and model? 🙂

You're going to need to renew your license. 🙂

Yeah, right. 🙄Where?

My motherboard drivers are a bit of a headache because I can't find anything for either OS online. All I have is the original disc that came with the PC, but since I bought this thing way before Windows 7 was even a thing, I'm guessing those drivers might be useless.

Ryan Martin70 said:Windows 7 just installs all the drivers on its own.

It really all comes down to which motherboard you’re running and what chipset is under the hood. In my experience, Dell and Gigabyte boards tend to be the biggest headache, especially when it comes to fighting with audio drivers. 😢
What motherboard are you running? 🙂

Anything is doable if you have the budget, but let's be real—it isn't free. When you're placing an order, you actually have to specify exactly how many licenses you need; there’s no such thing as an unlimited pass. 🙂

thanks in advance

Maybe give Malwarebytes.Anti-Malware a shot on your PC. Download it, get it installed, run the updates, and then let it scan. 🙂

Whenever I turn it on and put it into Standby, then wake it back up, things seem fine. But once I try to put it back into Standby a second time, that's when the trouble starts. I power it up, and the screen just stays completely black. No signal, nothing.
What could be causing this?

Also, what’s actually the difference between Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit? 😁

Google is pretty much your best friend at this point, and this one is free while still being just as effective. 🙂

shadowtinker43 said:So, I'm running Windows 7 and everything seems fine, but I've run into a bit of a snag. I have two partitions, and Windows 7 is installed on one that had about 6GB of free space right after the install. Now, that space has slowly dwindled down to just 2GB, even though I haven't actually installed anything on that specific partition. I have no clue where the space is vanishing to. I've messed around with various tools, but nothing has helped. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Did you follow these guidelines:

If you're using legitimate versions of Windows, they should upgrade without issues.

Look, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Some people prefer to make a massive scene, while others just take a more subtle approach. It really comes down to how much access you have, what you actually know, and the tools at your disposal. But honestly, the most important thing is making sure everything is wiped clean during a fresh Windows 7 installation. You just hit that format button on the hard drive... it's right there. I guess after you've gone through a second or third install, you eventually figure out how easy it is. 🙂 👍

Taylor Morales31 said:You don't necessarily have to format the whole drive. Maybe try going into the Windows Old folder and deleting things piece by piece? Just grab a few files at a time, delete them, then repeat the process. Usually, you can't just wipe the whole thing in one go. If there's some tiny stubborn leftover, I guess you could try using an unlocker tool to force it through. 👍

I guess I knew what I was doing, but I still ended up deleting something I probably shouldn't have. Everything worked fine after the fresh install, though. 🙄, whatever. 🙂

If you were actually aiming for a clean install, you really should have formatted the hard drive before starting the process. It’s pretty standard that it wipes out your drivers, though if anything does end up missing, it’s usually just the audio ones. 🙂

I mean, isn't that first part basically impossible?

Well, you can't just cram two identical operating systems onto the same partition and expect them not to fight each other. 🙂

If you have a second hard drive, maybe just unplug the first one and install everything onto the second drive. Once that's done, you can format the original drive and call it a day. 🙂

Lawrence Doyle7 said:Well, Winnie had it installed in about 15 to 20 minutes...I guess it’s on them. It worked for a few days, and it technically still works now, but I keep getting this prompt to insert a Windows 7 DVD... which I don't have. Apparently, I’d have to pay for the retail version first and then wait three weeks for it to arrive. Plus, they told me the retail version only comes on a 32-bit DVD, but I read somewhere that there should be both 32-bit and 64-bit versions available...

Yeah, I used RegSeeker to clean out my registry too, and then everything crashed. Maybe I caused it myself, maybe not... I don't really know. All I know is that I need Windows 7 and I have to figure something out.

That makes more sense now. If the hardware is decent, the installation is fast, so it's probably not the user's fault.🙂
