That all holds water. I remember running Windows XP on an Intel Celeron 466 with just 192 MB of RAM. Sure, it took a full year just to boot up, and you’d probably wait two years just to get a single program to actually launch, but I guess it worked. 🙂
Thomas Hernandez21 said:It probably worked, though I guess the real question is how. I mean, I've got Windows 95 running on a laptop with only 3MB of RAM, even though the minimum requirement is supposed to be 4MB.
It worked. 🙄
Joshua Garcia3 said:How am I supposed to know if it wasn't working at 100%? I guess I'll be the judge of whether it worked or not—and now I'm testing it on a different computer anyway.
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Maybe 1GB of RAM. ATI Radeon 9550
Everything is working perfectly. If you don't believe me, feel free to come over and check it out yourself. I managed to get Windows 7 up and running, and I even tracked down all the drivers, including those for this ancient graphics card. 🙂
But honestly, it runs so much better on this specific configuration. 🙂
So, you think it wasn't working perfectly? I'm pretty sure I know whether it was working or not, especially now that I've moved it to another machine:
- Intel Pentium 4 2.4 - 1GB RAM - ATI Radeon 9550
Everything is running at 100%. If you don't believe me, feel free to come over and check it out yourself. I installed Windows 7 and managed to find all the drivers, even for this ancient graphics card. 🙂

Most people find that Vista runs without much trouble.
As long as it works for someone else. It won't work for me, and honestly, after using XP, I guess Windows 7 is the only real option worth considering. 🙄
Paul Morgan74 said:Maybe I should just go ahead and switch to macOS since everyone seems to be raving about it, rather than sticking with this absolute garbage Vista I'm running right now. Honestly, I’ve been having nothing but endless problems with it. I don't know what I was thinking when I actually decided to install this thing.👎
No regrets after you've already gone and done it—you can't really go blaming anyone else once the damage is done. 😁
Adam Moore said:Look, I know how much RAM I have. I was just wondering if there's a way to check the MHz and which software companies actually make it. It’s not a big deal, I'll just open up the case, I was just curious if it's possible...
Well, just download and install Everest. If it isn't some total junk software, it should show you exactly what memory you're running and its MHz rating.
From what I can see, you're hooking up a SATA HDD to the board, which means you'll likely need one of these power adapters to convert a Molex connector to SATA:
What kind of motherboard are you running—brand and specific model? Also, how many HDDs are currently in your rig, and does your case actually have enough physical room to mount another drive? As for the power supply, that shouldn't be much of an issue; you can always just grab a "Y" splitter cable to run more HDDs or optical drives off a single line. 🙂
