Unrealistic movie tropes and plot holes in Movies ·
So, let's say a phone call scene lasts maybe 5 or 10 seconds... at that point, you could basically call it an art film! 😁 And speaking generally, when they cut scenes this short... even if it makes sense, whatever—it's true, and it honestly bugs me sometimes, seeing how everything in movies is just perfectly timed to flow one after another without any actual scene changes! 😁
Quiz: Which Disney Villain Are You? in Movies ·
...The Evil Queen from Snow White... okay, fine, maybe I am a little obsessed with how I look! 🙂 but hey, I actually have plenty of friends... :/ and I don't talk to mirrors! That's a lie! A total lie! *Seriously, those mirrors—they're lying!* 🙂
Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann in Movies ·
Alright, I checked it out, and honestly? It was just okay... Look, it’s definitely not groundbreaking or anything—nothing particularly innovative or high-brow going on here—but it’s an alright watch overall... 🙂 Plus, the cast is pretty solid. And you know what?? To me, the whole thing feels like some condensed soap opera—like they took a series meant to run for 200 episodes and crammed it into three hours... 🙂 It’s got all the tropes: the classic villain we have to deal with the whole time, the lead duo who can't stand each other at first then suddenly fall in love, and then that half-pathetic ending—*spoiler*where everyone thinks everyone else died in that bombing! *spoiler*, so that's the end, little Nullah, and man, that "aristocratic" vibe Nicole Kidman has—which, obviously, isn't so aristocratic later on... but whatever!!!!! Still, I thought the movie was great! 🙂
Warner Bros. in Movies ·
Also... stellar movie, killer cast, but the directing is what really hits—it’s just so seamless, totally understated, kind of like someone already pointed out somewhere!!!! And honestly, the only thing that bugged me while watching was Naomi Watts. I mean, I absolutely adore her—pretty much everything she does is top-tier, including this—and she acts great, but you can just tell the role didn't quite click for her. But hey, since it's her, it's all good and forgiven, right? Definitely recommend this one to everyone! 8.3/10! 🙂
The Golden Compass in Movies ·
True, but now that I’m actually thinking about it—the characters just don't have that same depth they had in the book. Everyone feels kind of shallow here. I mean, as much as I dig the movie and how closely it sticks to the source material (aside from that ending, which I absolutely loathe), it's fine, but it just misses that dramatic, poetic punch the writing had. 😢
The Bee Movie in Movies ·
here we go again—seriously, who could possibly have an issue with Shrek??? i mean, those jokes are clearly meant for adults, but kids don't even need to get them, for god's sake. they just care about the animation and stuff, right? totally pointless!
Saw IV in Movies ·
The book???? Aren't you being a little dramatic here? —not that I'm judging— but there are already six sequels announced... just a heads-up, purely for the sake of accuracy! 🙂
Saw IV in Movies ·
Honestly, this was easily my least favorite out of all four... though back when I first saw the third one, I thought *that* was the bottom of the barrel—until a rewatch actually made it better for me. Sooo... maybe after I give this one a second look? Also, I still don't get how they managed the logic of having the tape at the start AND at the end of the movie, but whatever... maybe it'll click after another viewing. 🙂 I’d give it a 6.1/10... nothing crazy, especially compared to the first three... (but again, maybe after round two??) 🙂
The Bee Movie in Movies ·
hmmm... I thought the movie was awesome, but idk what you're getting at—sure, there's adult humor in there, but honestly, kids still find it engaging... seriously though... that's just how critics are these days. Personally, I think Madagascar is peak genius for that exact reason—you watch it and it's packed with jokes for adults, yet it stays totally fun for kids too... and I actually love when they pull that off, creating that parallel where both audiences get something different out of it. The Bee Movie is the same deal! It’s got those classic Seinfeldian vibes, but the plot still works for children... and as for that "moral of the story" thing you mentioned... please, who actually cares about life lessons from a cartoon?? I don't recall sitting around as a kid thinking, "Man, I better follow this animated character's advice in real life," you know? No. Anyway, I'm giving The Bee Movie an 8.9/10... 🙂
The Golden Compass in Movies ·
Look, I actually really liked the movie... totally... yeah, I’ve got a few gripes—mostly that the ending feels rushed and abrupt, plus they completely missed the entire point of the first book—but aside from that (which is my biggest issue), I wasn't a huge fan of Panov's voice? It felt way too theatrical for me, just didn't land right. Also, the little girl's acting was off in a few spots—like that scene where Azriel's poison is poured, the editing there was just messy... but overall, the cast is solid, the VFX are insane, and that scene where Kidman saves Lyra from the machine was awesome and all that. All in all, I'm giving it an 8.4/10!
ugh, please, no way... I heard some rumor that if they did a Grindhouse DVD set with both movies together, they’d have to include that other flick too—the whole thing. But man, who’s actually gonna blow cash on DVDs if they pull that off? uuuuuhhh!!!!!! Honestly, I’ve been thinking there might actually be a chance for that movie to happen... 🙂
Hard Times in Movies ·
The movie was just too much work—couldn't even make it to the credits... (I usually try to power through everything, no matter how dumb it is, but this one actually broke my spirit halfway through...) so yeah, calling it mediocre at best!
Why do we watch movies? in Movies ·
Peter Flores67 said:I’m basically watching movies because I’m an addict at this point.
Heh, glad it's not just me.

Let's be real—pretty soon we won't just have AA meetings; we’re gonna need FA (Film Anonymous) support groups to deal with this obsession.

Hey! lonelynx44 here, and yeah, I've got a serious movie addiction too! 😁

Anyway, back to the point—I watch movies because... well, it's a deep subject... let me chew on that for a bit and I'll get back to you when I find a decent answer... 😉
Saw IV in Movies ·
It's finally over, hahaha! The premiere was last night! 😍 I'm dying to see it!!!! Hey, Sarah Lopez6, any chance you can film some of it if you're there—and is the picture quality actually decent?? What can I get you in return?? 😛
The Descent in Movies ·
Raymond Palmer8 said:Hard to pick a single "best" horror, but The Descent is definitely top tier.
As for 1408, the only thing psychological about it was me trying to figure out if I was watching a comedy or a horror movie. It had potential, like Michelle Ward10 said, but instead of using it, they just completely wasted it.

I actually turned off Hills halfway through, and I bailed on the original Chainsaw after maybe thirty minutes. I don't find all that gore scary—it doesn't even make sense to me. Those movies are just exhausting to sit through. One time, since I had nothing else on, I forced myself to finish Wrong Turn... talk about pure stupidity. I wouldn't even touch the sequel.

I guess we just see these films differently—The Descent isn't your thing, but it's an absolute masterpiece to me.

Look, it’s not that The Descent is bad—it’s just that it isn't *quite* as legendary as everyone claims... maybe because I went in expecting exactly what you said, one of the greatest horrors ever, and ended up with a movie that's good, but didn't totally blow my mind, you know? But hey, like you said, we all watch stuff differently. For me, horror doesn't need to be "smart"—I just want some chaos! Lots of mindless gore! That's my jam when I find a flick that doesn't try to scare me, but instead hits that vibe like The Hills or Wrong Turn (which I actually love, by the way, can't wait for the next one)—just tons of blood and mindless chases with crazy villains! 😍 Now, The Descent is a bit smarter than Wrong Turn or The Hills, but it lacks that constant rush of blood and nonsense to be my #1 all-time horror... but honestly, that's exactly why I dig it—it's not as brainless as the others and actually has some depth. To me, the start feels more like a drama until our lovely cavemen show up... sure, sometimes I want a "smart" movie too, and I don't just stick to dumb American slashers, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for this stuff, which is why I love them... 🤷 And honestly, I'm all about those teen horrors like Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer, though I usually view them more as comedies than actual horror. I don't mind at all when I just need to relax my eyes and soul—let some hot teenagers get slaughtered while I have a laugh! It's great!

Also, totally off-topic, 1408 is actually a solid movie for me, but let's save that for another thread! ☕

Peace, bro'!
The Descent in Movies ·
mhm, looks like it’s not coming here—and honestly, I doubt it ever will... just another one of those movies that never makes it to the US market...
now, about the movie itself... I watched it, and yeah, it's actually good, but calling it my favorite horror? Not even close... it's just a decent enough flick with great atmosphere and some solid villains, haha... personally, horror is the only genre where I don't mind a few clichés, so it works for me, but man, stuff like *1408* hits way harder because it messes with your head psychologically. I dig the slashers where a group wanders around getting picked off—they're fun, but they aren't "scary" in the way horror should be... I mean, the original *Texas Chainsaw Massacre* and *The Hills Have Eyes* were absolute beasts and definitely shook me up a bit, though not totally traumatized... this one didn't even really creep me out... so I'm sticking with an average rating: a solid 6.3/10! 😉
Unforgettable movie torture scenes in Movies ·
yeah, okay—but which scene is the ultimate cliché? for me, it’s definitely Hostel 2 when that girl gets her hair sliced off and starts washing up in blood!!! but honestly? it's such a blast to watch regardless. Hostel 2 absolutely rips. 😍
Unforgettable movie torture scenes in Movies ·
ehem... okay, maybe it wasn't physical torture, but man, the psychological stuff? brutal—both for the audience and that poor guy stuck in 1408!!! that movie absolutely rocks, and honestly, it kind of wrecked me mentally!!!! my favorite part was when he jumps through the window and you see that massive shot where there's just one single window left in the whole building!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!! damn! so now you've got me totally hooked on Irreversible!!!! if we're talking about movies that mess with your head, The Machinist is right up there. total madness! poor guy, though—the vibe was so depressingly heavy I practically couldn't get out of bed for a week. (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but it was sooo depressiiiive!!!! and gorgeous, easily one of my all-time favorites.)
Resident Evil: Extinction in Movies ·
Oh, please—give me a break. The first one was absolute perfection. I mean, who needs a deep plot when you just want to zone out? It’s the ultimate mindless popcorn flick. Now, the sequel feels a little sluggish—that’s really the only reason it isn't hitting as hard as the original—but honestly, I’m still stoked to see it. I actually planned on hitting the theater yesterday, but I couldn't find anyone to go with (apparently, people don't share my taste...) 😢 Whatever, I'll catch it eventually! 😍
Okay, hear me out! First things first—Tim Burton would have to direct. Obviously. And you’d need Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman for the leads. 😍 (And they'd be a couple, too, with her being all high-fashion and eccentric—so cute, right? 😎 )
As for the rest of the cast;
Marcia Cross, Scarlett Johansson (totally decked out in black, obviously, because that's the Burton vibe), Winona Ryder—who is just perfect for this kind of stuff, let's be real—and maybe Julianne Moore too.
Man, I’d throw Clive Owen in there, but he doesn't really fit that Burton aesthetic... so, maybe some other time. Anyway, Roger Bart (you know, from Hostel 2 and Desperate Housewives) would be great—he's got that slightly morbid edge, haha. And maybe someone like Timothée Chalamet? He’s got that skinny, Burtonesque look that could work if we played up the "crazy" factor a bit. 😛

So, the movie itself? Dark. But I wouldn't go the whole "Edward Scissorhands" fairy tale route—more like psychological mind games... I don't know. It would be dark, like, *really* dark. A slow burn, probably way too much blood, though I guess a movie like this should technically be violence-free? It'd be wild seeing how Burton works with someone like Quentin Tarantino to make it extra gritty... but then you might lose that special touch Burton usually brings to his stories, so maybe not. Ugh, whatever...
