2016 season in Formula 1 ·
We’re getting so close to the big car reveals—honestly, I’ve been feeling pretty let down by the new machinery since the 2009 season started, and I can't help but wonder if we're just looking at another year of disappointment.

And honestly, that’s probably how history will view him. If he hadn't played the team player—which, let's be real, wasn't always easy—he might never have even reached those numbers, and we wouldn't be talking about his longevity at all.

As for me? I’ll always remember him for that moment he had to hand the win over to Michael Schumacher just a few feet before the finish line—and man, that look on his face on the podium was absolutely heartbreaking.

We all know Nico Rosberg has what it takes—he just needs the green light to actually go for it.

Rubens Barrichello had the pace to pull it off plenty of times too, but he was always told to hold back... which is why I say, if the guys at Mercedes-AMG ever find themselves feeling a bit under the weather, they might as well just hand out those points to their teammates and enjoy the ride.

Look, what I'm getting at is that if he's already negotiating his exit from Mercedes-AMG, he should at least show a little grit behind that damn steering wheel—it shouldn't all have to be such a perfect, calculated pairing. Though, honestly, who knows how any of us would actually handle ourselves in a situation like that?

To me, Rubens Barrichello remains the most heartbreaking example of a driver stuck playing second fiddle.

I'm just not going to do it—I refuse to believe that. 🙂

So, what—you don't believe in the whole Number 1 and Number 2 driver dynamic, or team orders?

Well, look at how they manipulate his contract just to keep him quiet through the 2016 season—if I were in his shoes, I’d be doing the exact opposite.

Just take a look at the last few races 👍

I wonder if there's something brewing behind the scenes here—maybe some high-stakes negotiating tactics? Only time will tell. 😁

If I were in Rosberg's shoes, honestly, I’d just go out there, absolutely crush Hamilton, and then walk away from Mercedes-Benz with my head held high—I might even give those team orders a firm "NO!" (just like M. Verstappen back in 2015). I'd probably leak any attempt at sabotage to the press and refuse to play ball whenever things felt unfair.

Of course, that’s assuming the money isn't so massive that he's willing to settle for being the secondary driver.

Let's just hope Ferrari ends up being more like the Bears than the McLaren-Honda—maybe with some prettier, louder cars and a much more exciting season overall!

I really have to hand it to you—your level of dedication to everything F1 is seriously impressive.

But, if I'm being honest, I think you've got it a bit wrong when it comes to the McLaren Honda situation.

They aren't losing nearly as much time on the straights as you’d think; in fact, take a look at this breakdown—you can compare the McLaren against Ferrari Vettel in the first sector, then check them against Hulka and Hamilton in the second, and finally against Hulka again in the third. This data is all from Monza.

It’s honestly not quite the total disaster you're making it out to be.

As much as Honda might be struggling right now, let's be real—McLaren's chassis isn't exactly groundbreaking either; it just happens that having such a subpar engine helps mask those flaws.

neonfox65 said:Look, we have to be realistic here about where the responsibility lies—there's a clear line between what McLaren handles and what Honda manages. You can't exactly have the folks designing the chassis stepping in to fix the engine internals, right? It’s just not how it works. In my opinion, it's pretty obvious that Honda is the primary culprit here—mostly because they are always the center of the conversation and, frankly, their issues are the most glaringly apparent when you watch them out on the track. I honestly don't see how anyone could argue otherwise.🙂

I honestly can't wait for that Honda engine to actually start performing—just so we can finally see exactly what kind of mess McLaren has cooked up... because, let's face it, they always seem to be at their best when things are falling apart.

steelmaker83 said:And honestly, the bigger the corporation, the more glaring those structural issues become. And Ford is a massive entity...

That’s a fair point—I really hope things aren't handled that way at Ford, and that they actually value some level of horizontal organization, though—well, who knows how these giants operate...

As both neonfox65 and Joe pointed out, McLaren spent all those years running a Mečkin engine, and then last year they finally had the BEST engine available, yet they still ended up completely underwhelming...

Then they go and ink this deal with Ford, cramming everything into such a tight package that even Newey wouldn't have dared to design it that way—not to mention throwing in that new Ford PU that’s already a year behind schedule—and there you have it: a wasted season. It feels like McLaren has a totally skewed perspective. They seem to think radical shifts are the magic bullet for championships; maybe it works once in a blue moon, but usually, it just backfires...

Just look at Ferrari—they put in the hard work and steady effort, and now they’ve managed three wins this year after barely scraping a single podium last season.

Well, even if Honda does manage to find their rhythm, the real question remains: will McLaren ever actually get back on track?☕

Now I find myself in quite a dilemma regarding whom I should truly root for: should my loyalty lie with Prost, Piquet, Senna, or perhaps Villeneuve himself? 🤔

neonfox65 said:We’ve been down this road before, and honestly, those old rule changes just paved the way for the current mess—which, let's be real, isn't much better. And if you want my honest opinion on what fans actually care about? If we had to choose between cutting-edge tech and actual racing, most people would pick the racing every single time. I mean, who really cares if a driver is chasing someone with a massive turbo engine or some other high-tech powerhouse, as long as the passing is intense and the racing is top-tier? Even Flavio Briatore pointed out exactly that over a decade ago, and he was spot on. It's just a matter of when Formula 1 finally decides to get it through their heads...

If they won't fix it, then everyone should just go watch the lower series and enjoy the show there.

neonfox65 said:Honestly, even today's IndyCar series seems to be overdoing it with the wings. While I agree Formula 1 needs to remain the absolute pinnacle of technology, if you ask me—we should ditch the aerodynamics entirely and focus more on increasing mechanical grip instead.

Wait, why on earth would we get rid of aerodynamics altogether?? Just so we can have even slower cars, right? So everyone can go back to complaining about how sluggish they are.

I say we lean into the aero, bring back strong ground effects, and give them beefier engines—then we'll actually see them flying around the track where they belong. Let's not try to regress to some retro style from the 50s or 60s just for the sake of nostalgia.

neonfox65 said:In my opinion, the McLaren was actually the faster car compared to the Ferrari—back then, Ferrari was only sitting at third in terms of pure pace during 2010 and 2012. It was really thanks to Alonso that they were even in a position to fight for the championship. I’ve mentioned this before, but from 2009 up until now, Ferrari hasn't produced a car that was truly the fastest on the grid—not even once!

neonfox65 said:Look, I’m giving you the straight facts on everything that’s happened since 2009. Since then, Ferrari hasn't even come close to putting together a car capable of fighting for a championship.

Who was actually out there battling Red Bull for the title? If it wasn't McLaren, nobody.

And honestly—if Fernando had been stuck driving a junker back then, he wouldn't have won anything either; just because he's piloting a literal space shuttle now doesn't change what happened! 🤣

neonfox65 said:Right now, his team is sitting in second place—which isn't ideal, I suppose—but things should look much brighter next year. They’ve just stepped into a whole new project phase, and since the Japanese engineers are still essentially in the learning curve, there's plenty of room for growth. We’ll have to wait and see if Ferrari can actually make a move to shake off that runner-up spot next season, but it feels like they're constantly stuck playing second fiddle. 🤣

If you look at the last 15 years, Ferrari has managed to snag 6 titles, while McLaren has only pulled off 1. ☕

Rest in peace, Julian.

He was one of those genuine, world-class talents—not like some of these overhyped rookies we see getting all the attention lately.

It’s a truly somber day for NASCAR.
