Alex Barnes93 said:But hey, that's kind of the whole point of Formula 1, right? It’s a constructors' championship, not a driver's trophy hunt. The goal is to build the fastest machine possible so that any driver on the grid could jump in and cruise to a victory.
At the end of the day, the big money follows the constructors' standings and the team title. The drivers' championship is cool for the prestige and the bragging rights, sure, but it brings exactly $0.00 in direct prize money to the team that wins it.

So, let me just repeat myself here:

That’s only half the story. A great driver will always extract more from a mediocre car than an average one; there are plenty of examples like that in F1 history.

The influencer might be a talented driver, but he isn't nearly the superstar people make him out to be. The reality is he won everything because he was in the most dominant car ever built. We saw proof of that today when a driver who hasn't scored a single point was right on the verge of winning—he probably would have taken it if Mercedes hadn't botched that tire change.
George Russell takes fastest lap.

Who was it that claimed the driver actually matters??

Forget the driver. It’s all about the car, the car, the car, and then maybe—just maybe—the driver.
What's up with Bottas? He's just sitting there while Carlos Sainz makes it look easy.
lol, looks like Charles Leclerc knew he wouldn't be needing those tires today. 😁 😁
Alex Barnes93 said:Look, if we actually talk about this, it’s just gonna make things way more awkward for everyone, so let’s all just collectively pretend it didn't happen. Like, can we please just ignore the fact that they pulled Sebastian Vettel into the pits with basically 15 minutes left in Free Practice 3, only to swap in that second engine—you know, the absolute dud they've been lugging around all season—just an hour before qualifying starts?

Come on, stop lying. Everyone knows Vettel has arguably the best Ferrari he's ever driven. The issue is clearly him, not the car. The guy is a four-time fraud. 😁 😁

He isn't some influencer who could win a championship even in a Williams Racing. 😁 😁

Exactly. That’s my point all along: Ferrari has been riding Vettel like a tired workhorse, yet he handles it like a gentleman because he's honoring his contract until the end.

I honestly don't get what idiots are running Ferrari. Every single damn point matters when you're fighting for the prize money.
Jason Campbell70 said:"What are you even on??"

Same guy, same exact vibe, just two sentences later:
"Lewis Hamilton is just an average driver who happened to get lucky enough to sit in the best car ever built."

LOL.

As if you'd know anything about it...
Look, Sebastian Vettel isn't Pastor Maldonado; he didn't just stumble into a win or a title. Winning four championships in a row takes actual talent.

In 2010, he beat out Fernando Alonso right when everyone assumed Alonso would cruise to the title without breaking a sweat. That proves his skill, and no amount of armchair expert chatter is going to change that reality.

The Mercedes-Benz was easily the best car of the hybrid era. Ferrari got close, sure, but they were never actually better. Vettel never stood a chance with them, not to mention those questionable FIA decisions that seemed to always disadvantage Ferrari while favoring Mercedes-Benz.
Jason Campbell70 said:"It all comes down to the race car; anyone could be a champion if they were driving a Mercedes-Benz."
- If that's true, why does Lewis Hamilton have 42 wins and 4 titles over 4 seasons, while Valtteri Bottas only has 9 wins and hasn't managed a single title—just a 5th and a 3rd place finish in the standings?
"That's because they aren't driving identical cars. Hamilton's is faster."
- LOL.

Even though both are arguably the GOAT of their respective sports, I completely agree with that sentiment.

Correction: any SERIOUS driver in that Mercedes-Benz would cruise to a championship. Bottas isn't a serious driver, and even he managed to rack up a decent number of wins and pole positions.
frozenheron7 said:Comparing an elite athlete like Lewis Hamilton to a criminal, a con artist, a coke addict, a cheat, or some mob lackey is honestly just tasteless.
That handball goal and that dribble straight from the center circle? That basically sums up his entire career—both on the field and off. One word: fraud. Two words: selfish egoist.

Back to the topic at hand:
I assumed George Russell would perform well, but I definitely wasn't expecting him to clock such impressive times. Unless he ends up getting caught in a collision or a podium battle (which is looking way more likely now that Romain Grosjean isn't driving), it's almost a given the kid will pick up some points. I’m genuinely curious to see if he can carry this momentum into qualifying and if he'll manage to keep a clean sheet against his own teammate.

What kind of drugs are you on??

Diego wasn't the tiebreaker in a fair fight; he was just dead weight that allowed a mediocre team to skip ahead without breaking a sweat.

Your favorite influencer "proved himself" plenty of times when he actually needed to win and failed; he only took titles when he was handed a convincingly superior car. Even with a machine like that, he still lost the championship to Nico Rosberg, which tells you everything you need to know about his skill level. He's average. He just got incredibly lucky to sit in the best car ever made. It's easy to be a champion when everyone else does 90% of the work for you.
shadowmarlin22 said:Since 1960, we've seen plenty of those wild seasons where the championship basically went to whoever happened to be sitting in the best machine—think back to '82 or '86. So, all this arguing you guys are doing 🤷
is kind of missing the point. And then there’s this guy with his "influencer" insults—honestly, your precious Maradona was basically just a social media influencer himself
.
At the end of the day, the race car is the foundation; the driver is just the final layer on top. And when it comes down to it, Lewis Hamilton is the GOAT ☕
.

Look, man, you clearly don't get it. Maradona was an alien, a magician who turned average players into winners. He led Napoli to their only two titles in all of Italy—can you even wrap your head around that?

Open your eyes. This whole situation with George Russell just proves how dominant Mercedes-Benz is. Any serious driver could grab a title in that car without breaking a sweat. You can try to deny it, but unfortunately for you, that's just the reality.

As for your "influencer" comment—if he were actually as good as you and everyone else claims, he would have been collecting titles back between 2008 and 2014, when the driver was truly the deciding factor, rather than failing under pressure.
Jason Campbell70 said:The exact same two people who used to defend Sebastian Vettel by claiming "it’s all about the car" are now just as loud in their attacks on Lewis Hamilton, using those same old arguments.
LOL.

Actually, no, it isn't about the car. How many wins, titles, or pole positions has George Russell actually secured so far?

Oops, he hasn't won a single thing—not even one point.

How is that even possible?

Is such a supposedly phenomenal driver really incapable of scoring anything?

If you still want to believe that title was won by an influencer, go ahead. But let's be real: the car won it first, and the influencer just rode along.
Look, let’s be real—Bottas's car isn't some influencer's vanity project; you can see the truth from any angle. This whole COVID situation just pulled back the curtain, because there's no way George Russell, who hasn't even scored a single point yet, suddenly became this fast.

whatever man

I said this a long time ago: anyone could be a champion if they were driving that Mercedes-Benz.

Bottas isn't getting the full performance of that car. I'll bet anything that Mercedes is doing this to him on purpose, and he can't say a word because he's being paid to look mediocre and keep his mouth shut.

Considering what a total wreck he’s driving, he’s actually doing a decent job holding it together.

You really nailed that comparison. 🤦 🤦

Larry Wilson25 said:Man, please—don't go posting nonsense like that out of nowhere. It’s just ridiculous. 😁
Look, maybe we aren't exactly "easy" when it comes to doing business, but he isn't just looking for a way to scrape by or move overseas—he wants to hit it big (okay, maybe that's a stretch, but you know what I mean!). He wants to invest and actually see a return.
There are plenty of fast-moving startups out there that would kill for some seed capital without having to jump through endless hoops or deal with massive interest rates.
If he had just bought into something like Marriott or some other big corporate giant, I bet he'd be sitting pretty right now.

Man, you really have no idea what you're talking about.

Hamilton can't get anything done this year because he’s basically been sidelined. The team has completely isolated him just to focus on Leclerc, which is a total betrayal by Ferrari.

In my opinion, they should have just let him go immediately and handed the seat to someone who actually has the team's backing and the drive to fight, like Mick Schumacher.

Larry Wilson25 said:Why would you even bother going? Just because you didn't know how to handle things back then doesn't mean you should try to block him now.

The whole idea behind low interest rates is basically forcing people to push their savings—their allocation, if you will—into much riskier territory.
I'd take that over some government stimulus package from the federal government any day.
What we're seeing here is the beginning of real oversight. For instance, I’d honestly pay someone like a high-end fashion consultant just to give me their take after looking over my balance sheet. Look, I’m not exactly a huge fan of Elon Musk, but if I had decided to jump in, I’d be looking to grow my seed money right now. That’s why we really need more venture capital funds out there. Maybe we should even let retirees have the option to seed about 0.1% of their assets into startups.

Who’s to blame here? Is it my fault I don't have any buddies in high places, or that I refused to play ball with corrupt politicians?

Based on what you wrote, I guess that's exactly who you are.

Are you some kind of masochist?

Everyone is fleeing the States, yet you’re looking to invest here?

Good luck with that.

Cool, I get it. Cool.🥳

I’ve never been much for that country music scene, so to be honest, I don't really care whose crowd it is. All I care about is the vibe. The Irish have never let me down, whereas at those local country shows, someone always ends up throwing bottles and starting a brawl. Is a good mood really worth it if you're heading home—or back to the hotel—with a busted face?

Honestly, Norwegians are just as wild. They basically drink themselves to death in such a polite, cultured way that they never cause any trouble. Their karaoke bars are always packed, too, with everyone singing along in unison. Does anyone else find that level of chaos strangely orderly?
