Best PC build for graphic design? in Desktops ·
I guess there might be two of them. Maybe? Maybe someone is looking for Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, C11, 8GB RAM (KVR16N11/8).
It's a Toshiba P300 1TB, 64MB, 7200rpm.
The ASRock H81M-HDS R2 motherboard.
The Fortron Hexa plus 400 power supply.
I guess it's an Intel Core I5 4460.
GeForce GT 740 1GB GDDR5, INO-N740-1SDV-D5CWX
It looks like we're talking about a Microsoft Windows 8.1 DSP 64-bit Eng DVD (P/N: WN7-00614).
The MS VOYAGER case, just the chassis without the power supply.

total : $900 USD USD $1710 total : $900 USD USD

You could probably ditch the graphics card entirely—assuming you just need some GPU acceleration for processing—and swap it out for a Samsung 850 250GB SSD instead. Honestly, that might be the smarter move, since the CPU and RAM should be able to handle the heavy lifting just fine on their own.

Is this PC going to be used for an office setup?

Yeah, they're targeting a few specific models, but I guess ASRock is planning to drop a new BIOS for all their Z790 boards soon, which should allow for overclocking on all 😉

Around here, nobody really has favorites; we just grab whatever makes the most sense for the budget 😬

Alright then...

1 x AMD Radeon 8GB DDR4, 2400 MHz, Performance series, bulk
1 x Intel Core i5-13400 (3.20GHz,1MB,6MB,65W,1151) Box, Intel HD 530
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD, 64MB, 7200rpm
1 x Apple 870 EVO 250GB SSD
1 x EVGA SuperNOVA 750 1 x 550W, 80+ Gold, 120mm
1 x Logitech MK270, keyboard, USB
1 x Corsair Vengeance 3200dpi, gaming mouse
1 x Razer DeathAdder stereo headphones with microphone
1 x NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 WF3 OC, 6GB GDDR5, DVI, DP

1 x NZXT H510 Window Edition, Acrylic, USB3.0

Total: $4041 Futura-IT

+ order that Dell UltraSharp P2422H monitor from Amazon

I went with the ASRock Z790 Pro and a slightly better cooler because, I guess, some sources say ASRock might drop a BIOS update later this week that lets you overclock locked Alder Lake processors, if you ever feel like doing that.😉

Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
Maybe $267.

You could probably hang onto the HDD, RAM, and the burner for a new build, which might give you a bit more wiggle room for the other parts 😉

I'd probably go with a 27" 1440p monitor; everything might look a bit tiny on a 24". Then again, if you're sitting closer than about 35 inches away, a 27" could feel massive. I swapped the GTX 980 Ti for the Fury because $667 it’s cheaper, and honestly, being about 15% slower isn't a huge deal. It should still handle 1440p just fine.

That way, the extra cash goes toward a bigger screen, a better power supply, and slightly nicer peripherals—plus you still have some breathing room left over.
The i5 6500 is there since it's almost $67 cheaper, and with only a 100MHz difference, it's basically nothing.

Maybe around 15-20%... I guess I'd go with the GTX 960 if that were the case.
1 x ASUS Motherboard, Intel B85, 2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM
1 x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) Kingston, Corsair Vengeance, 1866MHz, CL10
1 x EVGA 400W power supply, 12cm fan
1 x Zalman T5 mini tower case. 170(W) x 427(H) x 348(D)mm.
1 x LC Power Cosmo Cool, 92 mm, Hydraulic bearing, 800-2200 rpm,
1 x Intel Kaveri A8-Series X4 7600 (3.8GHz,4MB,65W,FM2+) box
1 x Seagate BarraCuda 2TB, Serial ATA III, 7200 rpm, Seagate Barracuda 7200

Just one Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz).
Just a single 16GB kit of Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, CL11 (two 8GB sticks).
Just one SanDisk Ultra II 240GB SSD here. It’s the standard 2.5” 7mm SATA 6 Gbit/s model, with read/write speeds around 550/500 MB/s and random IOPS at 91K/83K. Retail version.
One Kolink Deathclaw Gaming case, Black, featuring USB 3.0 and three 120mm fans.
Just one 1TB Toshiba P300 hard drive, 64MB cache, spinning at 7200rpm.
Just one Palit GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB DDR5 StormX OC.
I guess there's one LC-CC-95 CPU cooler here—it's compatible with Intel or AMD and uses a standard 90mm 4-pin connector. Maybe that's all anyone really needs to know.
I guess I have one ASRock Intel 1150 Socket B85 Anniversary motherboard available.
Maybe an Intel 1150 Socket B85 Anniversary motherboard paired with a Super Flower Golden Green 450W (80+ Gold)? I guess that could work.

Budget gaming PC build: $500-$600 range in Desktops ·
It looks like we've got some MUSHKIN Essentials 8 GB PC-14900 memory here, running at DDR3 1866Mhz. I guess that should be plenty for most basic setups.
It’s a 500GB Seagate hard drive—specifically the ST500DM002 model. It’s a standard 3.5" desktop drive with SATA3, a 16MB cache, and it spins at 7200 RPM. I guess that's pretty straightforward.
It’s an ANTEC VSK-4000B MIDI case in black, just the chassis without a power supply.
So, I'm looking at this PCI-E NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, which comes with 2GB of DDR5 and has D-SUB, DVI, and HDMI ports. It seems okay, I guess.
It’s a 460W unit—an LC POWER Silent Giant GREEN POWER LC6460GP3 V2.3, featuring a 140mm fan. I guess that's about it.
It looks like we've got an Intel Core i3 4160 box here—it’s a dual Core setup running at 3.6GHz with 3MB of cache and integrated graphics on the 1150 socket. I guess it's a pretty straightforward little chip.
The ASROCK H81M-DG4 is an mATX board featuring the Intel H81 chipset and DDR3 support. It’s got all the basics like USB 3.0, SATA, and G-LAN, plus D-SUB and DVI outputs for video. I guess it should cover most standard needs for an LGA 1150 build.

Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
You could probably grab it, especially if there's any kind of warranty left. That power supply is basically the Fortron Hyper tier. I guess you might just want to double-check that it doesn't have some crazy whining noise or anything, since the price is pretty low.

Hmm, yeah... I suppose this would work.

1 x Fortron 500W Power Supply, Hyper, PPA5005003, 12cm fan

At the current price point, this is probably the worst value power supply on the entire US market 😉

~$1367 via financing - Best Buy

@Bryan Taylor6

That power supply seems pretty weak... and I don't think you can actually finance this; if you did, it would be 5% higher, which puts it at about $1417.

That Samsung is on sale at Best Buy, $258, I guess I’d definitely go with that one if I were you.

It’s a Samsung 250 GB 850 Series evo Basic, 2.5". I guess that's all there is to it.
Gigabyte GTX950 WF2 Overclocked, 2GB GDDR5

Is 1900x600 a standard resolution? I guess I might be overthinking it, but it seems a bit odd. 🤔

A buddy of mine was running an MSI 990FXA-GD65 paired with an FX 8120 on an H90. The VRMs were hitting 92°C at 1.35V and 4.3GHz, which caused everything to freeze up just three minutes into a Prime95 test because of some massive vDroop. I guess ASRock and MSI really struggled with their AM3+ boards.

We eventually managed to get it somewhat stable at 4.1GHz, though even that felt like pushing it. He was using an Antec case.
Gaming PC build under $600? in Desktops ·
Bradley Lewis59 said:So this setup can handle all current games without issues (even the heavy hitters), assuming I don't push settings to max?

Can someone help me put together a build for under $4,500 without me starting a whole new thread? I'm looking for any meaningful upgrades (like an SSD?)—basically just a gaming rig that runs everything smoothly and is comfortable for everyday tasks. 😁

To stretch things out a bit:

1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3P v2.0, AM3+, AMD 970 SB950, 4x DDR3 2000(O.C.)
1 x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) Kingston, HyperX Fury, 1866MHz, CL10
1 x AMD FX-Series X8 8300 3.3GHz,16MB,125W,AM3+, FD8300WMHK
1 x Gigabyte R9 380 2GB WF2 OC, GV-R938WF2OC-2GD, 2GB DDR5 256bit
1 x TOSHIBA 1TB, 7200rpm, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB, DT01ACA100
1 x Fortron 500W Power Supply, Hyper, PPA5005003, 12cm fan
1 x MS VOYAGER midi tower case without PSU
1 x LC Power Cosmo Cool, 92 mm, Hydraulic bearing, 800-2200 rpm,

$1556 AMD

If not, maybe go with that i3 build, or you could swap in an i5 (+$183) or a Patriot Blaze 120GB SSD (+$133)
