Look, I am talking about this exact thing.

Aside from whatever little authority you think you wield on this forum, what exactly gives you the right—or more importantly, the urge—to use such incredibly offensive rhetoric? Why do you do it so often to so many people? What is with this constant, sour irritability? It’s the kind of moodiness you might expect from some disgruntled clerk at a DMV office who spends her whole shift cursing her luck for being stuck in such a miserable job, but somehow, you bring that same energy here—to a place where we are all supposed to be "in the same boat."

Regarding the issue of leadership, just look at these examples: We are dealing with a serious topic here, yet cards are being thrown left and right, while our supposedly "approachable and reasonable" captain remains perfectly, suspiciously, spotless. Of course, now this will just be dismissed as whining, or advocacy, or whatever other "defensive dugout" excuse someone wants to use to shut down the conversation.

I’ve been putting off writing something like this for quite some time—people act like this forum is some sacred institution, that nothing can be changed, and that everything is perfectly fine just the way it is—but if you ask me, it really, really isn't.

I suppose I shouldn't have to explain the difference between a cause and a pretext. The pretext might be the situation with ex anais, but the actual causes run much deeper and go back much further.

Regarding her case (just as one example among many): the girl has been practically screaming for someone to just leave her alone for a while. And I’m not talking about some "spoiled princess" syndrome here; I mean she is expressing genuine distress in her posts that transcends the digital realm and mere forum banter.

In that light, telling someone to "just use the ignore button" feels a bit... well, a bit patronizing. Ignoring doesn't stop you from seeing quoted sentences from the person being ignored, nor is it right to tell someone who feels—I would argue—rightfully threatened to simply "pretend they don't exist."

And yes, she is very dear to me (even though we’ve had our fair share of intense arguments 😁) and I consider her a valuable member of this community (whatever happened to that famous "reputation" system anyway?)—so valuable, in fact, that I’m getting myself tangled up in this, even though it’s been made quite clear (and rather rudely) that I’ll get my ass kicked if I do it again. And no, I’m not hitting on her.

No, this isn't an attempt at advocacy, but rather—here is the actual reason for this post and why I'm risking the guaranteed beating I was promised: I am commenting on yet another instance of blatant inconsistency on this forum. It isn't working, and everyone sees it: they see how certain "captains" are allowed to engage in textbook trolling on serious and potentially useful threads while other non-captains get slaughtered by bans, they see the private connections involving local bigwigs and all that nonsense—all while reaching the absolute rock bottom of argumentation with 🙄 "if you don't like it, go join another forum."

It leaves a bitter taste in what should be a source of enjoyment—a place where people, finally, invest their time, effort, and resources in good faith rather than just for personal gain. It leaves a sense of sadness because, in the interpretations and comments here, all criticism is reduced to some low-level, petty John Doe mentality of "it's my way or the highway," showing a total failure to understand the sincerity, constructiveness, or even the specific nuances of someone's words.

It would be incredibly helpful if someone could strategically define where this forum actually wants to go, and what concrete tactical steps are needed to get there—including treating "business as usual" as a choice, which currently looks more like an editorially disoriented wandering from one case to the next. What is happening here simply isn't right, no matter how much people try to silence me or insult those who dare to speak up.

If the goal is to make this forum subservient to "His Majesty Clickbaiter," then fine; in that case, an "anything goes" approach is perfectly legitimate. Under those rules, authors like "I accidentally hacked his email and found out he's flirting with the neighbor's Doberman," "I'm 15 and have a Dick that's 10 inches long," and "Quote: from Hell, Jim Morrison died from drugs—the Mexicans killed him" become the ideal and most desirable members.

But, if the goal is to have any semblance of meaning, quality, or actual discussion, then someone at the top needs to sit down, reflect, and actually reach an agreement.

There. That’s it. Just turn up the volume; that’s my style, itditditditd.

Don't you think just locking down the Macro provides enough protection?

Like I said, it’s not that I’m losing sleep over it... but it is pretty ridiculous...

I am absolutely certain you spend your spare time searching for the Meaning of Life, the Essence of Being, and perhaps a cure for AIDS and a few other terminal illnesses—all at once, of course.

And that hair of yours is endlessly hideous. Excuse me? Not my problem? Exactly my point. ☕

Chloe Green61 said:The subforums are being purged constantly, yeah. If you've noticed a massive spike in post counts lately, it's because they're cleaning up all the old and duplicate threads from the old US message boards dating back 4, 5, or even 6 years.

That's easy for you to say—but who on earth is going to believe me when I show up to an AA meeting and say, "It all started when I spiraled out of control celebrating my ten-thousandth post..."? 😁
Code:
Sub DeleteImages()
Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory
Application.Browser.Target = wdBrowseGraphic

Do While Not (Microsoft Word Application.Bookmarks("\Sel").Range.End = Microsoft Word Application.Bookmarks("\EndOfDoc").Range.End)
Application.Browser.Next
Selection.Delete Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=1
Loop

End Sub

would be more efficient.

Best,

Actually, your suggestion is probably better—it’s quicker to type, I guess.

By the way, does anyone know why =NOT(ISBLANK... isn't working for me? 😕
cosmicbison19 said:Alright, this works—technically—but it’s only going to block input in other cells if cell A1 happens to be empty.

Well, I suppose it goes without saying that you’re going to have to adjust the formula for whatever specific cell you’re applying it to. 🙂--it isn't exactly a "set it and forget it" situation, after all.--

For A3, you'd use =COUNTBLANK($A$2)=0, and so on.
cosmicbison19 said:Does anyone happen to know a Data Validation formula that would, say, prevent someone from entering anything into cell A2 unless A1 actually has something typed into it?

=COUNTBLANK($A$1)=0

For the subsequent cells—let's say A3—you could theoretically set it up like this:

=COUNTBLANK($A$1:$A$2)=0

though, honestly, you probably don't even need to—it's logically impossible for A1 to be empty while A2 isn't, right?

Now, if I were following my own internal logic,

=NOT(ISBLANK($A$1))

should technically work... but for some reason, I can't for the life of me figure out why it doesn't. 🙂
Larry Peterson30 said:So, I'm currently working on sheet3 and I call a macro; that macro is supposed to run on sheet3, sheet4 (and sheet5 if it actually exists), but definitely not on sheet1 or sheet2.

Replace the loop with

For i = ActiveSheet.Index To Brojlistov Sheets

See, this logic relies on the actual order of the sheets within the workbook (the way they appear in the tabs at the bottom), rather than their names—so if you were to drag sheet3 over to the very first position, the loop would simply start from 1.
Rebecca Wright63 said:I'm using Word 2007.
That checkbox is definitely checked on my end...

What language is actually assigned to the Normal style? Try setting the language to "English" and see if anything changes at all.
Rebecca Wright63 said:So, I'm sitting here trying to get this thing to work—just a simple request, really—but instead of actually starting where I need it to, the system just hands me this single "word" and calls it a day. It’s incredibly frustrating. I mean, I’m asking for a sequence, a beginning, something to actually build upon, and yet... it just stalls out right at the start. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given how finicky these settings can be sometimes, but still—it's a bit much, isn't it?
Below, "word"

You’ll need to hunt down the Autocorrect options—specifically looking for the "Autoformat as you type" section—and make sure you check the box for "Straight quotes to smart quotes." I suppose the exact path might shift slightly depending on which version of Microsoft Office you're running, and since you haven't mentioned which one you've got installed (not that it matters much in the grand scheme of things), I can't give you a step-by-step map—but that should get you where you need to be.

crimsonotter32 said:It looks like someone accidentally clicked something—I guess you could say they tripped over their own mouse—and now all of their toolbars have just vanished into thin air.

There’s a massive difference between the toolbars and the actual menus—it's like comparing apples to oranges, really. One thing is one, and the other is something else entirely. 🙂

To get those toolbars back, you’ll need to head over to View -> Toolbars—then just check the box next to whatever you actually need (it’s usually just Standard and Formatting).
Larry Peterson30 said:I was wondering if there's a way to automate this—basically, getting all the data copied over into one single shared spreadsheet.

Well, I’m not entirely sure if this qualifies as "automatic" enough for what you have in mind, but maybe take a look and see if this hits the mark:

Casey Rogers47 said:I wrote the text underneath the triangle shape, but I can't seem to figure out how to group it together.

I believe I mentioned this in my very first response—just type your text directly into a TextBox (and if you don't like the border, just set the TextBox to have no outline). Once you do that, you should be able to group everything properly.
briskeagle52 said:whenever I'm typing text and I use an "i" as a conjunction, it automatically capitalizes it for me...

Well, you didn't actually specify which version of Word you're running—that makes things a bit tricky, I suppose. Generally speaking, though, you should just Google how to disable Autocorrect—specifically the "Replace text as you type" feature—for your particular version. If you happen to be using the older 2003 version, it should be under Tools -> Autocorrect options.
Casey Rogers47 said:It won't let me group them. That option is completely greyed out for me.

How exactly did you draft the text? I mean—do you actually have the ability to just group a single triangle and a rectangle together right now?
Casey Rogers47 said:I really need some help here—it’s becoming quite urgent.
I'm trying to take a triangle, a rectangle, and some text and turn them into one finished shape... something I can save as Clip Art or something similar, so I can resize the whole thing as a single object.
I've already set up the triangle, the rectangle, and the text.
Can someone please tell me what the next step is?

Well, first you should put that text inside a TextBox, then group all three objects together into one single group. Once they're grouped, you can define that group as an AutoText entry. After that, you just type in whatever text you assigned as the shortcut for those objects, hit F3, and voilà—you're done. 🙂
Drew Perez4 said:When I copy text from a PDF into Word, what should I do so I don't have to manually reconnect all those broken lines—how can I get everything to merge back into one continuous block of text automatically? I'm using Office 2010.

Well, when you copy-paste, Word essentially treats the end of every single line as a paragraph break. You could technically perform a global replacement of that specific character with "nothing"—meaning you'd type ^p into the "search for" field, leave the "Replace with" box completely empty, and then hit "Replace All"—but, I suppose, that would effectively kill every single intentional paragraph break you actually wanted to keep, turning your entire document into one giant, unreadable wall of text.

If there happens to be an empty line between your actual paragraphs, you might try this little workaround instead:

- Replace the double paragraph mark ^p^p with a unique placeholder like #####;
- Replace the single ^p with nothing;
- Finally, replace those ##### placeholders back with ^p^p.
Sub Macro1()

Worksheet Sheets = Application.Sheets.Count

For i = 1 To Worksheet Sheets
Sheets(i).Select
FirstRow = Range("$A:$A").End(xlUp).Row
LastRow = Range("$A:$A").End(xlDown).Row

Range("B" & FirstRow, "B" & LastRow).Select
Selection.Value = "z"

Range("C" & FirstRow, "C" & LastRow).Select
Selection.Value = ActiveSheet.Name

Range("D" & FirstRow, "D" & LastRow).Select
If (Month(Now) > 10) Then
Elsa Month$ = "11" & (Month(Now()) - 1)
Else
Elsa Month$ = "110" & (Month(Now()) - 1)
End if Selection
Selection.Value = Elsa Month$

Next i

end Sub macro

The Macro iterates through every single sheet—so, I suppose, there is your template for how to structure the loop.

Column A is being used as the reference point to determine the range where the values actually get written (though, if you happen to have headers in there, you'll probably need to modify the expression for the FirstRow).

In columns B, C, and D, it populates the values that you—I assume—were looking for.

It’s really up to you what you want to write for the month in January, and what happens once we hit 2012 (I am guessing this "11" bit is intended for 2011... maybe?).🙂
Nicholas Chavez70 said:I’ve gone through the work thoroughly—specifically right at the transition between pages 61 and 62—and I honestly have absolutely no clue what the hell went wrong there...

Well, you’ve got a Section break in there, and then the next section is set up to restart the page numbering back at 1.

Go into the Header/Footer settings, turn off "same as Previous," then navigate to Insert -> Page Numbers -> Format and make sure you check "Continue from previous section."

Everything I'm describing here is based on the 2003 version—I haven't actually seen which version you're using—but, I suspect, the logic remains the same regardless.
