What's the deal with ACTA? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Daniel Ward87 said:Look, he’s got some authority, sure, because being a moderator means his actual job is scrubbing posts that don't add anything to the conversation. It’s not just his opinion, though—after scrolling through a bunch of your old posts in the Politics section that Sam Green73 and others cleared out, I honestly think they should’ve been deleted too since they weren't really up to par.

If I were you, I'd probably try rephrasing that to "I spend a lot of time away from the Forum," because honestly, living on here 24/7 isn't exactly great for your mental health.

1.I wasn't even talking about my own stuff (even if I have some questionable ones), I was talking about how he nukes everything related to this topic—like whenever someone drops a link to back up a point, he just wipes it. My issue is more about whether it should be up to one guy's subjective take to decide what counts as quality or garbage.

2.I'm mostly on here by accident; I've got the app on my phone, and since my phone is basically glued to my hand, whenever I'm sitting at a Starbucks... I just pull it out and end up browsing the Forum.

I don't think you can just say Real Madrid lacked tradition before 1945. Honestly, they even celebrated their 100th anniversary recently, even though 1945 was way back, like 67 years ago.

Real Madrid was founded in '45, so if they're out there celebrating a century of existence, it just goes to show that whoever made that call clearly failed basic math class.

He completely tanked his own reputation with that move, basically cementing the exact kind of guy he is today. Honestly, it was easily one of the worst things that could've happened to USA soccer.

P.S: I’m a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, so even though it had nothing to do with me personally, it managed to get under my skin more than I'd care to admit.

Sam Green73 said:So you're basically saying this is

exactly the same as

Do me a favor and tell me what you actually consider to be a high-quality contribution or a decent discussion on a Forum.

p.s. take your time, I doubt I'll be hanging around this thread much longer today anyway since I've got actual stuff to get done.

To me, a quality post is just a normal response to a straightforward question.
Something like... I ask "why are you deleting posts?", you say "to improve the quality of the discussion," and then I follow up with "well, why should your call be the final word on what constitutes quality for everyone else?" and honestly, I'd expect something like "maybe I misread the situation, my bad, we're all human..." and that would be that. Instead, it feels like you're just dragging this whole thing along to prove you're the moderator and can do whatever you want, which has nothing to do with the fact that you're abusing your position.

No rush on the reply, I'm pretty much glued to this Forum all day anyway.

To be honest, I’ve got no clue how you even arrived at that conclusion based on what I actually wrote.

Rhetorical question here: did you maybe take a second to actually click the link and read the text I sent?
Calling it rhetorical just means I don't really care about the answer; it’s more of a gentle nudge in case the answer happens to be "no."

Let’s try this again, round two.

I ask—why are posts being deleted in this thread?
You answer—to maintain quality.
I ask—who are you to decide what "quality" looks like?
You answer—the moderator.
I ask—and does that title automatically make you right?

So, basically, the moderator is a walking God who can't possibly be wrong under any circumstances?

Sam Green73 said:1. I’m clearing out posts that don't add anything useful to the thread, so maybe take a look at the sub-forum rules. 🙂

2. I don't think the Forum allows turning anonymous polls into public ones, since some people probably voted assuming it was private.
Why do you care so much about making this poll public?
Are you sure you wouldn't rather just see who actually voted against it?

My PMbox is totally slammed, and honestly, all my messages are pretty sweet, so deleting them is kind of a drag.
When I'm talking about moderation criteria, I'd much prefer we have an open discussion about it.

1. Since when did you become the judge of what's "quality" content and what isn't? You walking with God or something?
People are dropping links to back up their points and prove this project is straight-up fascist, and then you just go ahead and wipe them out.

2. Alright, fine, it's not your fault.

fadedsailor932 said:...I’ll just touch on point number two and ask if you actually toggled the option to make the poll public when you set it up? If you didn't, nobody can see how everyone voted.

I didn't even create the poll myself; I just started the thread, then some other Forum user posted the question, and one of the moderators merged the two threads together. Anyway, since you're a mod, do you actually have the ability to switch a poll over to public?

I’ve got a few questions regarding this political thread I started—it's pretty much been the hottest topic on the site for the last few days. Yeah, we’re talking about ACTA.

1. Why is Resonator censoring this thread and nuking posts just because they don't fit his narrative?

2. Why isn't the poll public? It would be nice to actually see where everyone stands. (Look, I know people will jump in saying this is all about democracy, even though if this law actually passes, it’s basically the opposite of democratic.) I'm asking because I genuinely want to see who voted for what. Honestly, I have my doubts that Resonator himself even voted in favor of ACTA, which might be why he's trying to scrub the discussion.

3. I'm calling on all my fellow users to update their avatars to "Stop ACTA," and a huge thanks to everyone who’s already done it.

P.S. I posted this over on PZK because I'd love for Resonator to join the conversation here, so while I'm at it, I'll ask: why can't I send you a private message?

Thanks

wiredangler5 said:From what I can tell, there isn't any censorship happening here. People are talking freely; it’s just that a few individual posts get taken down. For instance, yours was removed because you were asking who specifically voted for the AFL-CIO. Honestly, those names don't really matter for this discussion. Posts like that—and things similar to them—get pulled because they don't add anything to the conversation. Other debates and exchanges of ideas are definitely allowed and clearly ongoing, as far as I can see.

So why'd you go ahead and delete my thread where I was just sharing avatars with the guys, and now I'm getting slapped with a 30-point penalty too??

Sam Green73 said:Just so we’re on the same page, off-topic chatter and casual watercooler talk usually get cleared out from the forum.

Look, I don't typically go around archiving every single little off-topic thread before they get wiped, but if you're really going to insist on sending me a DM for every one of your posts, I might be willing to work with you on that.

It seems like you aren't too fond of reading through the fine print, so let me save you some time and point you in the right direction.
Once you hit the 100, 200, 300, or 400 point mark, you'll face a three-day suspension. If you hit 500, 600, 700, 800, or 900 points, that jumps to a seven-day suspension, and once you cross that 1,000-point threshold, it's a permanent ban.

What small talk? All I see is this one troll who pops into the thread every few days with basically the same post, and when you finally call him out, he doesn't even bother arguing by the "forum rules"—he just vanishes. You don't warn him or flag him, yet here you are threatening me with bans, even though I'm the one who actually started this whole thread in the first place.
You already told me in the complaints section to either resign or let me handle the moderation for just one day, and then you'll see how it's actually done. But until then...
Best,

Which mod is out here nuking posts on the WTO topic?
I’m betting it’s Sam Green73.
Seriously though, why are posts getting wiped when they actually add value—like my case where I was just telling some guy to actually read the thread before talking?

Well, it was stated they don't. So what's the big deal?
Bank of America options in Close to Politics ·
Is there any legal reason why a Bank of America wouldn't be allowed to set up shop here in the US because of this:

Tossed this into politics since, if you ask me, it’s pretty much a political issue anyway.
Why does this thing act up every single day between 1:00 and 3:00 PM? It just kicks me out—the screen goes totally white, and honestly, I’ve nearly thrown my phone more than once. By the time I pick it back up after 30 minutes, it works fine for maybe three or four minutes before it glitches again and I'm ready to toss it out the window...

I'm stuck using Opera Mini on this crappy smartphone.
Any alternatives? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m probably gonna sit this debate out since my posts tend to wander on forever and honestly, typing them all out is kind of a chore, BUT seriously, why did you shut the thread down on the guy?
I noticed you mentioned he was basically just talking to himself, but you might've missed what time he actually posted it. I mean, who’s actually hanging out online at this hour to jump into a conversation?
Look, I'm not trying to give you a crash course in moderation or anything, but if he's still just shouting into the void tomorrow, maybe just close it then.
Suggestion in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Honestly, looking at your whole "body of work," you've been getting flagged more often than not, and I’m not sure if that’s actually doing anything helpful for your growth or motivation.

I don't see any point in dragging this out further. The proposal is REJECTED. 🙂

Uncle Sam

It would’ve been motivating and actually helped me grow if I was talking to someone on my level, but instead, I just end up soaking up three days' worth of pure frustration—and honestly, what’s the point of getting banned if you're just walking away even more worked up than when you started?

northernpilot2 said:rustydrifter10 is an admin over on the red side, so it basically ends up being the same thing to you anyway. 😁
And honestly, pushing people toward getting banned isn't exactly a winning strategy either; there's no point in encouraging folks to get themselves kicked out when they're just trying to hang out.

I get that if you're one of those people who never actually finishes things on the "one" side, it doesn't matter much, but for those of us who find ourselves stuck in that loop a bit more often, having that would be incredibly motivating and feel like a real step toward moving past it.
