Do me a favor and just stop posting if you don't actually have anything smart to say.

Look, you don't get to decide who can or can't speak here. If you decided to "share" this with us, then people have every right to give their two cents—and you definitely don't have the authority to tell them to shut up...

Matthew Morris28 said:I’m not out there donating blood anymore—but look, if someone actually asks me directly, like if I’m at the scene of an accident or someone needs a transfusion before surgery and specifically requests my type, I’ll be there. But making money off it? Yeah, no way.

That’s honestly never going to happen... unless, God forbid, we end up in another war. So please, don't use that as some kind of moral high ground excuse like, "Oh, if someone ever really needs it, I'll step up." Because let's be real, you won't.

Just say what you mean: I don't want to donate because I hate that they (who are "they," by the way? 🤔) profit from it... no excuses needed...

When you go to a place like Mayo Clinic to donate blood, they hook you up with a full meal—we're talking a real lunch, not just some sad little sandwich, plus a soda or even a glass of wine.

That’s got absolutely nothing to do with your choice to skip out on donating, and honestly, if that's your call, stick to it. But if you aren't going to step up and give, then please... just stop spreading misinformation everywhere else.👋

placidpanther12, turn off the caps lock.

Writing in all caps comes off like you're screaming at everyone—it’s just considered rude on most forums...

Honestly, I might just have to slap both of you if you don't chill out... 😁

What I'm actually gonna do is start a dedicated thread just for our favorite guy, slylynx68—that way, people who actually want to go donate blood to the American Red Cross don't have to wade through his selfish outbursts...

Man, look at how he's baiting everyone: "I'm basically calling the shots for a major corporation," yeah, okay... 🙄

Honestly, you just gotta ignore him—just like any other troll out there...

What an idiot...
Earplugs in Health ·
So, I walked into this pharmacy in Boise one time and asked, "Do you happen to have—like, the most random earplugs? You know, the ones..." (I started trying to explain myself since, let's face it, I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere), only for the woman behind the counter to pull out four different kinds!!!!! Like, foam ones, silicone ones, all sorts... and she just looks at me and goes, "Which ones do you want?"

I almost passed out right then and there.

But honestly, if you go to a pharmacy in NYC, they definitely have tons of earplugs... probably dozens of different types!

Why are you acting out and trying to turn this chill thread into a massive blowout? Like, why can't you just share your thoughts normally—like everyone else here—without all the accusations, fighting, and yelling?

Rachel Brooks63 said:Personally, I believe there’s more than one doctor in America who is HIV-positive.

A-ha, so who was the psychic here, huh? 🙂 Six doctors are HIV-positive

So, uh, what do I actually think about my own questions?

Since we're talking about six people—though that number will definitely climb as infection rates go up in the general population—I really don't think we should blindly insist they be treated exactly the same as their colleagues... It could honestly, like Kate Fowler79 said, end up being counterproductive for both patients and the rest of the staff.

I feel like we can—and really should—find some kind of middle ground where these doctors can still practice medicine, but without the direct exposure to open blood from patients. Maybe it’s through reassignment? For some doctors, there isn't much risk (like orthopedics and stuff), while for others, it might actually make sense to move them over to Infectious Disease, working on wards with HIV-positive and AIDS patients. Honestly, I don't think even Justin Fox's suggestion about early retirement should just be tossed aside...

Of course, all of this would have to happen through actual consensus. You can't just force a decision like this through... you need to talk, get everyone in the same room, and find a way forward.

Personally? I wouldn't want an HIV-positive doctor performing surgery on me, and if I knew their status, I'd probably try to prevent it. On the other hand... I wouldn't mind at all having someone with the same diagnosis treating my busted knee.

The Daily News is doing what they do best—going full tabloid mode: link.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few HIV-positive doctors working right here in America. It really brings up a bunch of tough questions:

1) Should these doctors even be allowed to see patients at all?
2) Is an HIV-positive doctor obligated to tell their patients about their status?
3) Do they need to disclose this to their bosses, or is that strictly private info?
4) Personally, would you feel comfortable being treated by someone who is HIV-positive? Would you let them take a scalpel to your organs... (please, take the joke 😁 as a joke
)? 5) Do you think we should treat surgeons or orthopedic specialists differently than other doctors when it comes to this?

I'm curious to hear what you guys think—I don't really have the energy to write out my own thoughts right now... Jane Doe

legione, you're honestly not being helpful here—you’re just looking for a fight.

Look, we get it, you’re against treatment for addicts... you’re against everything. Seriously, please don't go looking for an argument if you don't actually have anything useful to say about supervised injection sites. Thanks!

brisknomad6 said:* so what—should we just stop offering "hookup rooms" with condoms or "party then detox" suites? is that the plan?

Hell yeah we want that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the damn church didn't run this whole country and if we actually had sane politicians in charge, they'd be handing out condoms in schools and stuff... it would basically kill off STDs and slash those teen pregnancy rates in one go.

Why on earth would you think that’s a bad thing? Honestly, I can't believe you're even suggesting it might be bad! 🤔

So, if I'm gonna try to summarize what’s been said over the last nine pages—and just so we're clear, unlike Brandon Castillo4, I actually read the ENTIRE thread 😉
...
There are a few people here who are dead set against setting up organized safe injection sites. Aside from some pretty weak reasoning (check out all of Professor McGonagall's posts), the big one seems to be that it’s too expensive, and basically—who's footing the bill?
Look, I consider myself a liberal, open-minded person, and I try to be empathetic toward everyone's struggles, but I absolutely have to admit—that's a fair point! I genuinely get why people wouldn't want their tax dollars going toward helping addicts. But for those of you thinking that way, let me be as SINCERE as possible: I most certainly do NOT want my money funding the Catholic or Orthodox churches here in America, and I definitely don't want $350 million of taxpayer money going toward the University in Mostar and stuff like that every year... so see how little that matters?! I don't want it, but the people making the laws do, and all I can really do is vote for someone else at the polls (not that I think anyone else would act any differently)...

But what about everything else? What's your actual reason for saying these rooms are a bad idea? The only real counter-argument I've seen came from Willard: that the filth could become an issue, but honestly, I feel like that's something that could be easily managed.

So, a question for the opposition: What if these safe injection sites in the US were funded by the government in Norway? Or Sweden? The Netherlands? Denmark? And please, don't give me that "it won't happen" line. Of course it won't. But I—and I think everyone else here—would love to hear a single valid argument that isn't just "my money shouldn't be spent on junkies."

PS: Even as we speak, a massive amount of your money is being spent on drug rehabilitation. A huge pile of cash. So why aren't you out there protesting in Times Square if it bothers you this much?

analogwolf2 said:look, just try saying something actually helpful for once, please 🙏

Honestly, I don't think I know nearly enough about this topic to really jump into a debate over whether supervised injection sites can actually help addicts—or society at large—deal with the whole drug crisis.

So, I’m gonna sit this discussion out... I’ll just try my best to make sure things don't get too nasty or personal here, even if people have totally different takes on it.

Megan Reed, Edward Green, analogwolf2, amberorca192, and the rest of the gang:

This is actually a great topic—one where we can have a real, meaningful discussion without everyone getting in each other's faces. Please, just keep it respectful... feel free to share your takes however you want, but let's not go ad hominem by attacking one another personally.

I really don't want to have to start deleting comments... Thanks!

Look, here's the deal:

Right now, you're basically getting answers to the exact same question in two different places. The main thread over in the women's section exists specifically so more women can share their experiences—and honestly, it’s super active and full of great info.

It wasn't that you didn't get an answer ten hours after posting... the real reason is that the same question has already been answered at least ten times in that thread. It just means you missed it when you were reading through.

Since we agreed that discussions about gynecologists and recommendations should happen over there, I’m going to merge this thread with that one. If you want, you can head over and find all the answers to your questions right there.

Also, just a heads-up—please don't start a new thread asking for doctor recommendations in the health section, because it'll just get deleted. Thanks.
