It was just kind of everything... the whole atmosphere. There were plenty of people at the Ice Arena, but honestly, nobody was really going crazy cheering or anything. It was mostly just a bunch of ten-year-olds running wild—jumping all over the place and climbing on people—and nobody was even trying to rein them in. The girls played their hearts out, I get that, and yeah, the Azerbaijani women are definitely the better squad—I have nothing against them.
But the whole experience of actually going to a Match just isn't my thing (unless you count being there with Katarina Barun's dad, who nearly had a heart attack when she totally whiffed that serve 😁 )...
I'm calling on all you forum folks to come out to the game tonight—let's get loud for our girls!!! I am definitely going... honestly, I've never even been to a volleyball match in my life! 😳
Leonard Nimoy, sorry for starting yet another thread, but I am just so hyped for volleyball tonight:
So, we’re facing off against Azerbaijan to clinch a spot in the semifinals. We need a 3-0 or a 3-1 sweep to move on. Azerbaijan, you ask? Man, if Nikolai Karpolj decided to coach any other team—like some random squad from a local comedy troupe—they’d be unstoppable, super disciplined, and favorites against anyone...
Our girls? They’ve got heart, they’re aggressive, young, and honestly just fun to watch. And they're led by Her Royal Highness Barbara Ruzic—a woman who basically knows everything there is to know about volleyball. Seriously, everything. It'll be worth it just to see how someone who hasn't coached in nearly three years handles this...
Basically, we need to pack the Doma Sport Ice Arena to the rafters (I think tickets might even be free, or at least cheap, though I could be wrong) — and let me tell you, I doubt those Azerbaijani women have ever played in an atmosphere like what we can build at the Ice Arena. Don't hold back, guys!
Brandon Castillo4~ said:Not to mention he’s probably better than 99.9% of guys his age—not just because of the talent, but look at what he's pulling in. But nope, Duje wants a million bucks...
Fine then, kid, go for it! Good luck to ya!
Man, finally... I can actually agree with you 150% here!!!
If he wants out, let him go. Honestly, who cares...
placidcanyon16 said:I see where you're coming from, but seriously—Duje isn't just some average Joe, he’s legitimately one of the best out there. And if you look at where the top-tier professionals land in their fields here in the States, you'll realize this is $4333 peanuts.
So, what does everyone else in the American swimming circuit actually make?
It’s pretty obvious to all of us that Duje makes a killing from swimming alone... he just wants more. Now he’s finally got a shot to grab it, and honestly, it's just his own gut and character that'll decide which way he leans...
Just hope he doesn't end up paying for it five years down the road—back home in my neighborhood, they totaled my car once...
He actually pulls in $4333 more every month—swimming basically paid for his entire education at Berkeley (everything was covered, plus he gets a decent little stipend on top), and he’s got a massive lineup of sponsors back home (maybe over there too, honestly I can't be sure)... plus, he definitely has access to the absolute best training setups, gear, supplements, and all that good stuff...
Look, I get it, anyone would want to aim higher in life—if he wants to go swim for Bahrain, hey, good for him. It's his call. But I just keep hearing this constant talk about "making the most of what you've got"...
edit: correcting my own netocan info here: from his local club, he gets $4.25 net per month, and all they really ask is that he competes in the US National Championships. On top of that, he receives a scholarship and meal allowance from HOO. When you crunch the numbers, it adds up to about $6.75 in pure cash every month. A million dollars is a lot—way, way more, I totally agree

rustymoose54 🙂
Seriously though... your eye for detail is unreal. I gotta say, respect!
Hannah Harris87 said:I’ve got plenty. It’s just one more reason to absolutely loathe this country—just another thing on the long list of why I’d never move back here...
Then what the hell are you even doing hanging out on a forum for a country you hate so much?
Hannah Harris87 said:As long as this one sick individual can just cut a check for all those scumbags, why even bother asking? I really want to know what happens to the people who actually can't afford to pay.😢
It's the exact same thing that happens to the poor folks over in the "West"—you know, that place you seem to worship so much.
The only real difference is that here, the money meant for healthcare goes straight into the doctors' pockets... whereas out there, some goes to the government, some to private hospitals, and so on.
Tiffany said:I can't remember her exact words, but I think she was really digging her heels in about wanting a C-section even though a natural birth was totally an option.
Yeah, here we go again—this whole issue with our messy, disorganized system (and honestly, maybe by design). If someone actually bothered to fix the chaos in our healthcare system, there’d be a clear price list for stuff like this... just like you'd have at a hair salon or a local pub. You want a C-section? Go right ahead, just head to the register and pay $6667 + tax and you're all set.
I know exactly who wouldn't like that kind of policy and why things stay the way they are, so I'm just talking hypothetically... but man, if I had even five minutes of power!
Look, if it makes you feel any better, go ahead and ban me whenever I call someone out for being a total jerk. Honestly, I don't care—you don't need to hold back on my account...
😁
PS: That little comment about "hooking up every single day after work" actually explains why you're so exhausted...
Honestly, my family and I have been through hospital after hospital, surgery after surgery... but we have NEVER—and I mean NEVER—ever handed cash or even fancy gifts to doctors or nurses. I’m talking nothing. Not even a cake my mom brought to the ward when I graduated, or those times I’d grab massive tubs of ice cream for the nursing staff during those brutal 100-degree heatwaves (I won't even count those!). From what I've seen, doctors rarely ask for bribes for life-saving surgeries, even if they definitely overcharge for other stuff. Like, you know, things like herniated discs or whatever—they'll charge patients until they're blue in the face, but that’s just one example.
Maybe I'm totally off base here, though... it's just my own experience dealing with hospitals over the last 20 years...
