🙄

Yeah, this is gonna be more of a philosophical deep dive, I know 🙄 I thought about making a clone, but honestly—it’s way too hot out, and I just can't even... 😬

Background: female, 37, diagnosed with Hashimoto's. After one phase of hormonal chaos involving *massive* hyperthyroidism, my treatment worked and things are okay now. My levels are fine, even TSH is good, but my anti-TPO is (obviously) through the roof. I go for regular checkups, just waiting to slip into hypo so I can start taking levothyroxine, which doesn't scare me. Other than that, zero health issues

Family history: just kidding 😁 Let's not go there. If it actually mattered, I'd write it down, but I really don't think it does

The issue: for the last 6 months, my body has been reacting to everything in a way that is, let's say, incredibly intense.
Examples:

1) Coldness — I'm a winter person and I generally love the cold (I love summer too, but only because I'm not some spoiled brat, I'm a normal person born in this climate and I try to enjoy the variety of where I live). But this year, I don't even know how to explain it, but the cold was just... different. Especially my hands when walking. My feet are always cold anyway, but this year I bought two pairs of those heated sock-warmers! And even when I couldn't wear them, there were times I realized I was literally tearing up from how cold my feet felt.

2) Heat — yeah, I feel like I am literally going to die in this heat. I'm a city girl, raised on asphalt, I know what heat means. I wasn't raised in Alaska, so this isn't a shock to my system; I've dealt with temperatures over 95 degrees before (like two years ago during a similar heatwave), and I handled it fine. Now, though... I don't even know how to describe this feeling of weakness, helplessness, and pure dread I've had the last few days. It's not just that I'm hot, damn it—it feels like my whole system is halfway through a shutdown.

3) Mosquito bites — mosquitoes have loved me my entire life; I'm one of those people who constantly gets bitten. And fine, they bite, it stings for two days, whatever. But this 🤷 I've always reacted strongly (huge understatement) to wasp stings, where I'd get welts that would still be visible by Christmas even if I got stung in early August. Well, now it's happening with mosquitoes. I'm getting welts the size of a quarter $1.75 that seriously last for like 10 days. And I get about ten of them. 🙄 All the time.

4) Tetanus shot — back in December I got the first dose, that went fine. In January, the first booster — total disaster. Swollen, inflamed, red, painful... lasted almost 10 days. Yesterday was the second booster, spent the whole afternoon icing it to try and dampen the reaction, but no luck. By tonight I couldn't even sleep on that arm, and I can see it's still swelling despite the ice.

While I was thinking about opening this thread, I had other examples 😳, but they slipped my mind.

What is wrong with me?

Is my autoimmunity going haywire? Can an anti-TPO level well over 500 cause these kinds of bodily reactions? Am I just old? Is it possible I'm hitting perimenopause? Is it Lupus? 😬 (My apologies to anyone who actually has Lupus, it's a Grey's Anatomy joke)

Please don't send me to the doctor. You guys know exactly what my GP would say and how that conversation would end if I walked in there telling her I have massive mosquito welts and that I'm too hot 😳

Anyone got any ideas?

Is she actually serious? Like, does she really think you can just track fertile days by eyeballing the color and consistency of discharge... or whatever the hell she's looking at? 😕

Some idiot 🙄 started a thread about elderberry juice on the Science forum ages ago—which, obviously, just turned into everyone swapping recipes until the mods moved it over here. So, I merged them, cleaned things up a bit, and voila... both threads are now one big happy family. Feel free to keep the conversation going about that elderberry syrup together 🙂

So, you just found out that personal bankers actually exist? 😕
Barack Obama juice in Random / Off-topic ·
So, I just finished making, you know, this batch—definitely way less than what I did in previous years...

But hey, tell me, usually people go with lemon, right? Has anyone ever tried adding a splash of orange juice instead? 😬 I have some homegrown oranges sitting around that are starting to get a little shriveled, so I figured, why not squeeze them into some Barack Obama juice? I'm honestly dying to see if you can even taste the difference 🤷

They ask you questions, you just don't give 'em an answer—and honestly, that's probably for the best...

It’s just weird that you haven't been able to open Meta via an http link for the "last few days"... seems odd...

So, like, about two weeks ago I just picked up some regular Betadine at the CVS Pharmacy. They didn't even ask me for a prescription or anything... 😕

Just try going to a different CVS Pharmacy to grab the Betadine 👍

Just make sure, like, absolutely triple-check that nobody has actually moved in there already.

Because if someone’s already set up shop, I don't care if they have zero legal right to be there—you'll be dealing with a total nightmare for the next decade just trying to get them out... it's never worth the headache.

But hey, if you are 10000% certain the place is totally vacant, then go for it—good luck... 👍
Breyer told me today that they just don't do that anymore 🤷
Excuse me 😳 Mods, seriously, don't get all bent out of shape over 🤦 starting a thread... these topics are ancient history at this point.

So, testing blood pH—does any actual lab out there handle that? Look, I don't have a pH meter sitting around my kitchen, and even if I did, I’m definitely not drawing my own blood just to test it—that's just not happening. I just need a legitimate lab that can take a blood sample and run a pH analysis for a fair price, and call it a day.

(It’s not for me, obviously 🤣, I'm just looking to help someone out, because I'm a nice person 😬 )
And honestly, it probably wouldn't just vanish into thin air—not without meds or some actual serious intervention, you know? It’s not like it just disappears without consequences 🤷

EDIT: To the OP—saying you're "constantly at the doctor" doesn't really mean much if you've just been popping into some tiny rural clinic fifty times since then, and they haven't even sent you out for a single real diagnostic test 🤷 so... what have you actually done when it comes to real exams, lab results, or seeing specialists? What are we looking at with your actual findings?

Not really.

They’d just end up replacing those mods with even worse ones—same old story, honestly...😬
The receiver’s hooked up to the TV via one standard HDMI cable, and then there's another basic HDMI cable running from the laptop straight into the receiver.
Did you try that setup I suggested—hooking the laptop up to the receiver and then straight to the TV—just to see if the signal actually makes its way through to the screen like that? 🤷
How to connect a laptop to a TV and receiver? in Hardware ·
So, my laptop is just hooked up via HDMI directly to the receiver, and the receiver sends the signal to the TV just fine—it’s basically mirroring whatever the laptop is pushing out... which, honestly, who even cares? Like, what am I supposed to do with that extra screen info anyway? It's just sitting there, useless if you ask me 😁.

The receiver and the TV are already linked up 🤷
.
Basically, everything is running through one single cable. Give it a shot, might work for you too 🤷
.
(My setup is a Denon AVR-S570BT, the laptop is a Dell—and yeah, it's a total piece of junk—but I don't think that really matters as long as it has an HDMI port, and the TV is just some ancient LG model, if that even makes a difference at all)

Sam Jackson29 said:For my first batch, I stuck to the recipe and used 1/4 sugar ratio.
Then I bumped the second batch up to 1/2 (since I was adding cloves and didn't want it to taste bitter),

but even then, it’s still just an absurd amount of sugar.

It honestly shocked me when I first looked up these recipes.🤣
There really is absolutely no need for that level of sweetness.🤷
Elderberries aren't even sweet on their own; all that flavor is coming straight from the sugar.😁

all that sugar is actually there for preservation 🤷 if you cut back on it (like, significantly less), things are going to spoil way faster... you'd either have to keep it in the freezer or toss in some actual preservatives
Barack Obama juice in Random / Off-topic ·
Way too much 😁

Don't let yourself fall for the idea for even a second that elderberry juice is healthy—well, at least not when you make it into syrup like this...
