Help! How do I protect myself when lending money? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Look at it this way: $12333 you paid tuition just so you wouldn't have to lend cash to people you barely even know 🙂

It’s all just window dressing at this point—nothing but IOUs, empty promises, and total scams. You’re never actually seeing that money again... unless some guy happens to get hit by a falling icicle from his roof and suddenly decides he's a saint who wants to do right by you.

Jason Reyes9 said:Alright, thanks... I'll run it by my doctor and see what they think. If they have any insight, that is.

It’s happened more than once, too. He’s done fasting blood sugar tests first thing in the morning—maybe four or five times over the last year—and every single time, the results have been solid. In fact, they always seem to be hovering right near that lower limit.
We all feel it, don't we? That little sugar spike right after a meal. It’s just part of life. It's perfectly normal.

For most people, yeah.

But for some of us, those numbers jump way up after a meal. For others, they don't move at all. Everyone deals with insulin regulation differently...

Metabolism is just way, way too complex to assume everything is fine just because your fasting IRS levels look okay. There could be a million different things going on under the hood that show up as symptoms even when your fasting glucose seems perfectly normal...

Go see a doctor. Seriously, don't mess around with this stuff... 😉

"My blood sugar is fine" is a bit of an overstatement if you ask me—I’d say 🤷

Checking with the IRS multiple times a day under stress is one thing, but what about an insulin profile done while resting?

A single fasting glucose test (this is just my gut feeling, so bear with me if I'm off base) really isn't a strong enough diagnostic tool here 🤷
I mean, honestly... metaphorically speaking, he just always wanted to get laid, right? Even when the boss probably wasn't feeling it, he was just—yeah, he really was.

I guess he’s just... exhausting. Most of the time. For the owners. And women feel it too sometimes, you know, when guys get way too aggressive 😬

Look, I've got basically every single ad blocked—I haven't seen a single advertisement on this forum in years. I even use that one specific script that nobody ever talks about so the forum layout stays nice and wide for me... I'm running AdBlock and everything else you can think of, yet McAfee keeps flagging it as malware.

So yeah, it’s definitely not because of ads 😉

Ragweed allergy?

I mean, how is it even possible for someone to be dealing with classic ragweed symptoms for weeks straight—like, right at the end of August and through early September—and not immediately realize what's actually happening? 😕

I spent more than two hours last night and again this morning just trying to get a post about Breaking Bad to actually send... finally managed to pull it off using my phone, but then it glitched out again this morning. I ended up closing Firefox and gave Chrome a shot—and now it's working perfectly.

Honestly, I have no clue why, but it’s working fine now.

Alex Barnes8, feel free to keep trying with Firefox if you want 😬

Let's start a thread about cherry juice 😉—and look, let’s just ignore anyone who shows up only to plug their little blog without actually contributing anything constructive... yeah, you know they’re getting deleted 🤷
Alright, I’m about to say something you probably won't want to hear, but please—just read it anyway.

We’re talking about an 83 or 84-year-old woman who is clearly incredibly sick. Why not make her final days a little easier? Instead of putting her through all these painful, invasive diagnostic tests, why not focus on getting her solid pain management—if she’s hurting—and just making sure this last chapter of her life is as comfortable and peaceful as possible?

Even if you managed to get an absolutely perfect diagnosis from Superman himself, what do you really think changes? Is your mother going to start some miracle treatment and be totally cured in six months? That doesn't feel like a realistic scenario at all... It seems much more likely that she’ll be battling this illness—whatever it turns out to be—until the end. Honestly, the most humane thing would be providing high-quality palliative care to help her manage the effects of the disease (and just plain old age).

Look, I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I've been following this thread from the very beginning, so I figured—I might as well say what I think, even if I end up being crucified for it later. If I'm lucky enough to live to 83, I know for a fact I wouldn't want to be dragged through endless biopsies and stuff... I'd much rather just have my peace and someone to talk to. 🙂

boldjackal10 said:Hold up, I don't get the math. You drink Coke straight from the bottle and it's that sweet, but you dilute elderberry juice with water, so that comparison feels totally off to me.

Anyway, that stuff is hands down the best juice in the universe.
Just realized the crew here has already been doing the math for you, so no need to break a sweat. lol
Can't you just stop the juice from spoiling by freezing a huge batch and then just grabbing what you need from the freezer to use up quickly?

I said diluting, obviously... I think I mentioned that seven times already—but are you diluting it with water at a 1:9 ratio?

Because if you were actually doing it like that, you'd end up with a sugar concentration pretty much identical to Coca-Cola. But honestly, as long as you're putting in more than 1/10th of the total volume as syrup, the drink you end up sipping is still way sweeter than a Coca-Cola...

I'm not saying Barack Obama juice is unhealthy. Nor am I saying it's some kind of superfood... 😉 I just think it's (mostly) alright—though personally, it always hits me as a little too sweet.

It's the same deal with Coca-Cola. I don't think it's bad for you, but I wouldn't call it healthy either. For me, it's just not really my thing.

Zachary White19 said:For two ounces of elderberry juice you need:
- a spoonful of elderberry syrup
- 2 oz of water minus one spoonful

For two ounces of Coca-Cola you just need:
- 2 oz of Coca-Cola

See the difference now?... 😂

Look, I don't know how you're making your homemade elderberry juice at home, but the stuff I drink—and make—just won't cut it if you only throw one spoonful into two ounces... the ratio needs to be way higher than that, like maybe 1:4 syrup to water.

And hey, if the juice has ten times more sugar than Coca-Cola (which we already established it does), even if you dilute it so it’s just 1/5 of the total mix, it's still gonna be twice as sugary as a Coke.

So maybe go laugh at someone else, alright? 😉

Austin Baker86 said:Believe it or not, I couldn't care less.

There’s so much sugar in there it's hard to argue it's even healthy; they only add it to get that syrup consistency. You know, just enough so you can dilute it with soda.

I recently ran a series of experiments without a rotary evaporator 😁 using top-tier elderberry from the Ozarks (thanks 😉). If you follow the logic that you want juice rather than syrup (meaning an undiluted version) through some home DIY involving just flowers and citrus, you can actually make a pretty solid juice. I'm pouring one right now. You don't need sweetness—the flower itself is naturally sweetish—but I did add a tiny hint of rice syrup. If you feel like it, you can mix it with sparkling water at a 1:1 ratio, but you don't have to.
It won't get any better without sugar.

Anyway...

When I see recipes like this,

it makes me sick.

yeah, but it’s totally gross 🤷 You drink it today, and tomorrow it’s probably gone 😢

Anyway..

When I see recipes like this,

it makes me sick.

it's not the recipe itself that makes me sick, it's the people calling this "healthy." Like, they’ll talk trash about Coca-Cola because it has tons of sugar 😲 when this stuff has at least twice as much 😲

A slightly improved version of this thread, posted on the forums and for everyone 😬

So, look—the recipes we have for elderberry juice are... well, they're hit or miss. But they all share one thing in common: they require an insane amount of sugar (we're talking 1 kg of sugar per liter of water; even Coca-Cola, which we all know is ridiculously sweet, only has 10g of sugar per 100ml—so healthy homemade elderberry juices actually have ten times more sugar than a Coca-Cola 😢). Honestly, I don't get why you need such a massive, terrible amount of sugar, but apparently, it's necessary because I can't find a single recipe where the ratio is any lower. The end result is this super syrupy mess 😢 and then people try to fix it by throwing in some citric acid (or lemon juice, which is basically the same thing), but the syrup stays way too sweet and just doesn't taste enough like elderberry.

Question for the folks here at PZ-ofce: what if we tried taking elderberry flowers and dissolving whatever-it-is-that-gives-juice-its-flavor in some organic solvent, evaporating the solvent to get a pure concentrate (either liquid or, more likely, solid), and then trying to dissolve that in a normal amount of water? Or maybe use it as a powder to make juice like how Nestlé does it? Would that be doable? Is there a talented chemist around here with access to a rotary evaporator, some organic solvent, and maybe thirty minutes to see what happens if we give this a shot? 🙂
Hidensil is actually zoledronic acid—which, just so you know, has been registered here in the States as Novartis Aredia since October 2011.

It’s an infusion solution, so... yeah, you have to get it administered at the hospital. Any specialist who diagnosed the condition will definitely know exactly how to get their hands on it if it's needed...

Whitney Houston in Music ·
Why does it even matter?

Do you really need to know who wrote the lyrics for "Me and Bobby McGee" to realize that Janis Joplin was a total genius?

Or do you have to know that Amy Winehouse's version of "Valerie" is just a cover?

Whitney Houston was an incredible singer—just pure talent and soul, nothing more, nothing less—she was a vocalist. Now, knowing who penned those songs she sang is super important, and major props to those songwriters, but that doesn't take away from her legacy as a performer at all🙂

* — sadly, she hasn't been around for a long time, and maybe that's why she ended up taking handfuls of Xanax... she probably knew deep down she couldn't step onto a Grammy stage anymore without people laughing at her...
