Robin Rodriguez5 said:Just checking in to let you know they lowered my overdraft limit for $400 🙂 😁 . It’s been in effect since April 5th. The reason? I can't point to a single thing. My income is identical to the last billing cycle, I haven't gone into the red, and honestly, most of the time I'm not even hovering near a negative balance. 🤷
Isn't not using your overdraft exactly why banks end up cutting your limit?
I wouldn't have deleted your first post if it hadn't dragged the whole thread into off-topic territory.
Btw, it’s pretty obvious even the founder thought it was off-topic, since she later wrote: "geez, what are you guys on? we're talking about a brother/sister/best friend here. this is just how things are done, I don't know how it is elsewhere. when someone close to you graduates and you go to their party (or better yet, if they're hosting at their place), you buy them something. it'd be totally weird to show up empty-handed because that's what people expect. that's what I meant by social norms. but whatever, I'll figure something out. I thought there'd be some sharper people here who could actually give advice."
It's pretty clear she wasn't looking for your take on gifting trends.
As for the suggestion to buy alcohol, I don't see why that's off-topic. The founder asked for gift ideas, and then this user chimed in:
"Chivas Regal or Jack Daniel's. That's what I'd go with."
We could argue about whether that's a good gift or not, but he was just giving his suggestion.
Bottom line: if your post hadn't derailed the topic, I wouldn't have touched it. But since it pushed everything off-topic, I had to pull it. There. 🙂
I deleted them because I figured (and still think) they were just offtopic stuff.
She asked what to get for graduation. You respond:
As someone who already has a degree: nothing.
Gifts for this, gifts for that, gifts for tomorrow, gifts for some random Friday, etc. Instead of fueling consumerism and these mindless traditions, try thinking instead: "Why am I celebrating an event by buying an object?" "Why is my first instinct to celebrate by spending money?" "What actual value does this item provide?"
Yeah, and then when people bring up how shopping malls create jobs—great. More simplicity for simple minds. Like George Carlin would say: "I leave symbols to the symbol-minded."
Why the eye roll... you already thanked us for the answers, whether they were 'good' or 'bad.' Maybe don't be so quick to praise things next time...
Adding to the thread.... There's a correlation with certain people who feel their college experience was harder than others. Basically, they look for a gift that matches how much they struggled. The bigger the better.
So, here’s a fact—you actually have to think if you want this to become a habit.
After she replied to your post (which I consider offtopic since she asked what to buy, not for opinions on the "trend" of graduation or prom gifting), you reply:
Who are you if not part of society? By saying that, you're admitting you impose these rules on yourself and can't fight them. Not a great apology... Besides, if someone calls you a jerk, it doesn't define you—it just shows where they're coming from. They're just projecting.
Regarding the second part, isn't it better to just ask the person what they actually want rather than guessing with a gift they might hate? If they love surprises, then whatever. I'm not really into the whole gift-giving thing.
Now explain to me how that's ontopic. Where in your reply did you actually suggest a gift? You could have just said she shouldn't buy anything at all. The founder didn't ask for your opinion on the concept of gifting; she asked for suggestions on what to buy.
I was actually gonna tell you last night not to bring up PayPal or online shopping with them. They don't have a clue what you're talking about and you'll just end up confusing them. 🤣 Turns out I was right.

What else isn't clicking for you?
I’m telling you now, this won't be your only warning if you keep spamming images of Cruella de Vil in threads where they don't belong. Thanks for understanding. 🙂
As far as I'm concerned—and I think the other ladies mentioned here agree—you can lock this thread. 🙂
It’s not really the same thing; Maestro is a debit card since the money leaves your account instantly, whereas buying on an installment plan is basically just a modern version of a check (plus, not every bank even offers that option).
You can't buy things on credit here. The full amount hits your account immediately—assuming you actually have the funds, otherwise the transaction just gets declined. Just so we're clear, Microsoft is a debit card (just like Maestro). 🙂
Just a heads-up, hardly any stores offer installment plans for Visa or Mastercard—and even when they do, it’s usually tied to cards issued by Chase. So, if he's looking specifically for those monthly payment options, American Express is definitely the better move here. 🙂
I don't think they'll let you. They'll only give you a revolving loan. (Though, if you actually read what's on their site, they just turn a charge card into a revolving credit line🤷)
You're still stuck on current accounts. 😁 We're talking about a checking account. I've got one, just like PayPal does, and I use it for all my online shopping. It works on PayPal and anywhere else they take standard Visa, so you don't even need a foreign currency account—the one you already have is plenty.

If I could, I’d snag those Diesel Viker jeans in an 8oz wash right this second, but their online shop is only stocking the Krooley cut.😠 And even then, you can't find that specific 8oz wash in the Viker fit anywhere... okay, maybe one random boutique in the UK has it, but the inseam is basically made for toddlers.😠 These other wash options they have are honestly pretty lame.😢, and here in the States, the selection is basically non-existent.😢
If I can't track down those Diesels, I'm pivoting straight to PRPS. Their denim is incredible, and they’re definitely a massive step up in quality from Diesel, so I won't feel like I'm throwing money down the drain if they cost a bit more: http://www.baggamenswear.co.uk/CAT_L...ory=PRPS-Jeans
Oh, then that's right up my alley. 😁 Which site? 😁
By the way, these PRPS jeans look killer. I’m digging every single model they’ve got. Still, I’m just not really a huge denim guy.
